Somewhere, a little paperclip is chanting in a quiet voice directed at Apple: my name is Microsoft. You killed my street cred. Prepare to die! His weapon? If photos obtained by Engadget are the real thing, perhaps it will be a next-generation music and video player. An iPod killer.
Microsoft's heavy investment into the Xbox gaming console is a clue that the company would love to further tap into the market Apple has wrapped up with its iPod, those young early adopter types. Will Microsoft unveil its iPod killer? Is that part of those billions of dollars of mysterious R&D investment Steve Ballmer keeps defending? We await word from a less jerky spy camera.
[Update: I stole rampantly from Princess Bride in my opening sentence. If you were wondering.]

The "my name is Microsoft. You killed my street cred. Prepare to die!" phrase is very similar to a phrase used by the Spaniard that kills the 6 finger bad guy in the Pricess Bride movie.
There should be acknowledgment.
Thank you.

When was the last time Microsoft delivered on innovative technology? I don't think that Apple needs to start quivering. I suspect that R&D at Apple is already five steps ahead of anything Microsoft wants to peddle. I own a Samsung 730I PDA running MS software. It is supposed to be the latest greatest. And MS PDA software is supposed to be better than its PC Windows software. Sigh. I need my PDA for work. I pray for an Apple PDA!

Twenty two years after 1984 Microsoft still hasn't
made an operating system that is as good as the
original Mac's. What makes you believe they can copy
the iPod inside the next twenty?
Obviously biased, we have two iPods and one iShuffle.
