Rights to song sold on eBay

rights to songKatherine Schell is selling the rights to her song "The Gravity Situation" in an eBay auction. Bids have already reached $305.00, with more than eight days to go in the auction. The rights sold are for one year commercial format.

Katherine Schell is a VH1 award-winning musician and she utilizes not only eBay but MySpace.com to promote her career. Her songs can also be found for sale on iTunes. The promotion and attention from the auction is yet to be seen, but I wonder if this could open the door to a new trend.

This is the first time a musician sells exclusive rights to a song on eBay, that's according to the record label representing Schell. However, an eBay spokesperson said there is no way to verify that.

Related auctions: The famous auction off a 7% share in Britney Spears' song "Everytime" in November 2005. A European musician offering a guaranteed hit song for $1 million without much success.

Not my particular cup of tea, but if you wish to listen to the song offered, here's the link.
