While Yahoo Inc share price was up 32 cents or 0.97% to close at $33.17 today, much in the form of competition is actually happening around it.
After AOL announced last week it would offer free services, more in the manner of Yahoo and MSN, today we also found that AOL is in talks with former CBS News anchor Dan Rather regarding a video programming.
Also today MySpace claimed its spot as the number one U.S. Web site, accounting for 4.46% percent of all U.S. Internet visits for the week ending July 8. With that, MySpace pushed Yahoo! Mail, Google and Microsoft MSN Hotmail down the line. In the social networking, MySpace accounted for nearly 80% of visits. That's according to Hitwise, and Internet tracking firm.
Yahoo is trying hard to compete in the social networking sector with some successes, but it seems it still has its work cut out for it.
