Those French business folks are fiercely protective of their Louis Vuitton handbags, aren't they? Louis Vuitton has filed a $47 million lawsuit against online auction giant eBay for not "doing enough" to stop or stem the sale of counterfeit Vuitton goods on the auction site. It's another example of eBay being called out for not policing its auction site for counterfeit goods trafficking.
If Vuitton were to win this suit, eBay might as well shut down, as there are counterfeit and knockoff goods in just about every possible eBay category. Fraudsters out to make a quick buck have flooded the auction site with low-quality, cheap goods -- which buyers crave, apparently.
Should eBay be held responsible for all the commerce atrocities that happen daily at the online auction giant? If so, the company may need a few hundred people on staff just to keep up with all the apparent fraud and counterfeit goods being listed and sold every single day. If not, how much is "enough" when trying to counter the counterfeiters?

A drop in the bucket, I'm afraid.
If you go to the US eBay site, select the "Stamps" category and search for 'panasonic', you'll find a 50" HDTV on sale for a buck. There are a couple of Toshiba laptops in the Coin category going for the low, low price of $12.68 and a boatload of Sony electronic items on sale in the Books section - some with bids. (If you hurry, you can snag a camcorder for $1.86.)
I used to report them to eBay, but it's pointless because they're relisted within minutes of eBay pulling them down.

Update...Louis Vuitton claims that 235,000 goods found on 340 Auction sites are fake. Well what does he expect? LOL...Anyone can copy these cheap bags for practically nothing. Especially since their made in China, Indonesia, and god knows where else. LOL. Of course they are going to copy them on the black market. I suggest that he hire a team of 1000 lawyers, and that they start suing each seller on these auction sites quickly to protect their trademark. The Government, It's Citizens and Authorities are not responsible to protect his trademark. It is Vuitton's responsibility to protect his own trademark from fraudsters. Not any Auction company, Government, Peoples, Etc. If this were to hold up in court, the whole world will be suing each other into oblivion.

Add Dior to the suits against Ebay. This is what happens when the site users report fraudulent listings to Ebay and Ebay does nothing!

eBay is well aware of all the fraud that is going on within their site. They are allowing it because there is a lot of money to made on the listing and final value fees of these items. Counterfeit items are reported to eBay daily and eBay does not act. They are no longer "just a venue" but co-conspirators. Meg Whitman should be locked up on fraud charges.

My ebay account just got hacked and 60 LV handbags posted - co-incidence...?

LV wont get anywhere with their suit. Just like Tiffany, its been over 2 years now with them. No one reads policy agreements when they joined eBay obviously. Its just a venue. Just like the newspaper, anyone can sell a fake item in there. Why doesnt someone sue the newspaper! Or someone should sue MSN chat, or Myspace since there are sex offenders ready to kidnap kids.

I do not think if this is good idea, they should be able to profit from the sale of the fakes on e-bay (it is called brand recognition) some people can not afford 1000 bag, and what is the different from the fake that was made for 100. They should of rather ask e-bay for the % of the sales for all lv bags. More people getting their bags, more brand recognition they get. It is my opinion.
