Retailers have struggled in recent years to appease all faiths and be completely neutral when Christmas-time -- oops, I mean "the holidays" -- comes around. In recent years, some retailers have even been boycotted because they would not use the term "Christmas" in any way, shape or form in advertising, marketing or promotional materials during the November and December shopping season. Instead, they use terms like "holiday" and "cheer" in place of Christmasy terms.Well, strike one against trying to please everyone in the melting pot we call America. The world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT), is returning the "Christmas" to Christmas this year. It will employ an "in your face" Christmas message after religious and other groups boycotted retailers last year for taking all Christmas words, phrases and other related material out of the holiday completely.
The word and theme of "Christmas" is picking up steam at other retailers too. Macy's -- the largest U.S. department store chain -- plans to have "Merry Christmas" signs in all departments this year in addition to window displays with Christmas themes and even an "Oh, Christmas Tree" theme at New York's Herald Square.
Will other retailers follow Wal-Mart's lead and re-embrace the theme of "Christmas" this year? On one hand, customers who are of other faiths may be offended, which was the initial cause of a generic holiday theme so many retailers have followed in recent years. On the other hand, a majority of customers spoke up and retailers listened. For better or worse, the majority -- or the mob -- rules in the marketplace.

Thank God. Walmart should be ashamed of themselves. Jesus is the reason for the season. This country was founded on Christian values. That is the least they can do.

Good for them! Finally acknowledging the necessity of addressing the most celebrated holiday! The only thing left is to include other major winter holidays too like Hannukah and Kwaanza. America was based on respecting each religion, not smothering them all into "holiday season". When we tolerate all religions instead of ignoring them, we will truly be a melting pot. So Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwaanza, and good cheer to all!

Catherine from #14 is what is wrong with this country. You're right bitch, it's not politically correct. And that is a GOOD thing. You are the problem, not the solution. Suck it up bitch and shop at K Mart if you don't like it. Humbug to you.

Walmart still won't get my money! I'm glad they have humbled themselves enough to use the word Christmas, but it's just a ploy to get their Christian customers back. We are now boycotting them because they choose to be involved in the Gay Rights issue. They need to stay out of issues like this and just run the store!

Thank you Wal-Mart for bringing Christmas back. This is the original if you live in the U.S.A and people should respect that.

I think what is truly correct is not to lump the holiday season into "Happy Holidays" but to acknowledge that some people celebrate Christmas, others Hannukah, Kwanzaa, etc. etc. NO matter what words you use the message is that you're wishing people the joys of the season. I work in a predominantly Jewish institution and people wish me a Happy Hannukah, and that's just fine because they are wishing me the best for the holidays! We all need to stop being hypersensitive and picky about words.

HEY GUYS, WAY TO GO! ATTEMPTING TO PLEASE EVERYONE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. THE FACT IS THAT JUST ABOUT ALL RELIGIONS JEWISH, MUSLIM, BUDDIST, ETC. CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS. ASK ANY OF YOUR SHOPPERS THIS YEAR AND ASK THEM WHAT THEY ARE SHOPPING FOR AND JUST ABOUT ALL OF THEM WILL SAY "CHRISTMAS" THEY CELEBRATE THEIR HOLIDAYS AND HOOK THEM UP WITH CHRISTMAS. I HAVE ONLY SEEN A "HOLIDAY TREE" AS A COOKIE. NOW, THAT 5% GOING TO THE HOMOSEXUAL ON LINE SALES, WHATEVER IT IS IS SHAMEFUL. CAN'T YOU FIND A LIGITAMATE CAUSE ? GIVE IT TO OUR KIDS THAT ARE STARVING IN THE U.S. OR THE FAMILIES OF OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN WHO WON'T HAVE A CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR BECAUSE ONE OR BOTH OF THEIR PARENTS ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR FREEDOMS AND SAFETY!!!!!!

I am not Christian, nor any mainstream faith. I have never had an issue with people I do not know saying "Merry Christmas" around the holiday season because they are strangers. I DO however take offense when a Billion Dollar Corporation assumes that just because the majority faith is Christianity that I will not be offended. I supported their decision to say "happy holidays" because there are multiple faiths here in the US.I would simply reply "thank you, same to you." If you have an issue with Happy Holidays then you can reply to them Merry Christmas to show your faith and that you are proud of it. A corporation should be nondenominational- its that simple.

Walmart finally did the right thing after much pressure. I still do not want to shop their stores because of how awful they treat their workers. Hats off to Macy's as well. Foley's was terrible last year and everytime one of their employees said, "Happy Holidays," to me, I would reply with, "Merry Christmas." Most employees would smile gratefully and return the greeting, but some would look at me as if I had said something absolutely horrible. It is a shame that the country has gotten to the point where we have to fight for Christmas and other Christian ideals and what our great nation was founded upon. It is ironic that liberals always talk about individual, political and religious rights and tolerance, but they are completely hypocritical and bigoted in regards to anything regarding Jesus Christ. One voice can make a difference and if all of our voices come together, we can unite to make tremendous changes in this country.

The article was fine until it got to the part of "the majority - or the mob". We are not a mob just the majority of the United States population. Again the newspeople have to express a personal opinion and keep the ACLU in our face.

I knew I liked Walmart. Thanks for getting the guts to stand up to the people who feel they matter more than anyone else. I'm glad to see that at least you guys have started a trend amongst other stores. It's time we all stand up to the hate mongers of this country and the ACLU and get back what they have taken away."MERRY CHRISTMAS"

Most of us grew up celebrating "Christmas" but few of us know the real story behind the holiday. No, it didn't start with Jesus......For those of you with inquiring minds, please check out:

Now if the others stores would get the hint! And if WE would stand up for the other stuff like boycotting places that disagree with our Christian faith and values. Guess what folks we Christians could take back our nation for Jesus.
"If my people who are call by my name and humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways , THEN I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land."
NEVER FORGET WE ARE THE MAJORITY! AND WE'VE ALREADY WON! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

IT'S NOT ABOUT WAL-MART HONORING A HOLIDAY OR PARTICULAR RELIGION; IT'S ABOUT WAL-MART HONORING THE ALLMIGHTY DOLLAR. IF JEWS WERE THE PRIMARY CUSTOMERS AT WAL-MART, THEY PROBABLY WOULD MAKE IT A POINT TO SELL ONLY KOSHER FOOD ITEMS.

Expressions like Season’s Greetings and Happy Holidays – as bland as they may be – are well-intentioned ways of making everyone feel included in this wintertime holiday celebration. Personally, I happen to like Christmas; but it’s easy enough to understand that many Jews, Muslims, atheists and others don’t want Christmas shoved in their faces for an entire month of the year.
Hatemongers calling themselves Christians, by declaring war on "secular forces," are themselves trashing Christmas. Instead of devoting themselves to a season of "good will to all men" – instead of following the teachings of Jesus Christ – they are deliberately alienating anyone who isn’t a Christian. They are making our country more polarized and more antagonistic; they are not contributing to peace on earth.

I do not understand the hoopla around the term "Christmas".
I am Agnostic, and I do not see anything wrong with calling the Holiday season "Christmas time".
I do know some really religious people who do not celebrate Halloween, but we still have a retail season for that.
Get over it, biatches. If you want to call the season something else, open your own retail center and go at it. :P
