Many auction sites have attempted to challenge eBay's dominance of the world of online middlemen, and none so far has succeeded. But that doesn't stop new businesses from trying. I've been in communication with Lee Markham, the founder and development director of Tazbar, one site that would seek to challenge eBay, Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY). Lee is a kind and business like fellow who has great vision for their growing auction site which he sees as a strong competitor in the online auction market.
Although www.Tazbar.com only went live on August 1, it has already attracted thousands of users who are looking for an alternative to the more established online auction sites. The management team at Tazbar.com are all experienced users of other online auction sites, so they know exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are. Tazbar.com has been two years in the planning, and they have designed it from the outset to be simpler and cheaper to use than all the others.
Quick reaction to customer issues will keep them happy.
This thinking has been fundamental in the way that Tazbar.com has been designed and developed.
Tim James, Tazbar Managing Director, explains:
"Listening and reacting quickly to customer feedback is what will always drive us. There is nothing worse than dealing with a faceless organisation that ignores your concerns. This philosophy has been central to the way that we have designed our fees structure. Unlike most other sites we charge no listing fee, so there is no risk for the seller to offer something for sale on Tazbar.com, also our final sale fees are cheaper. Overall, this means that the buyer will benefit as sellers are able to offer the same goods on Tazbar.com cheaper than on other sites."
A Wanted item section, where a user can advertise for something that they are looking for and a People section where individuals and organisations can freely promote their services, are important parts of the long-term strategy to grow the online community that Tazbar.com knows will be critical to their success.
Tazbar.Com is a UK based online person-to-person selling venue. It is different because it listens to its users and reacts quickly to comments with the aim of making online buying and selling an enjoyable and profitable experience. Tazbar does accept PayPal online payments.

So the sludge from the bottom of the barrel have a new place to go. The non paying bidders, the crooks who scam people and have been kicked off ebay, yhoo and amzn, the people who have bad credit and do not pay their end of the month bills to ebay/yhoo and amzn. The sellers who have to try and change their seller or bidder name cause they have been kicked off other services.. This should help clear out the bottom feeders from eBay for a while til this one goes belly up.. eBay is king of the mountain and will remain so for a long time, thx for clearing out the garbage tazbar you can have them..Dean

Its great to see someone with some vision take on Ebay. From what I have seen of Tazbar, they are a very professional outfit who seem very CUSTOMER FOCUSED. Furthermore, Tazbar have also launched their TV advertising campaign today. It's also a VERY strange co-incidence that Ebay have decided to hold a cheap listing day today too! As far as I know, Ebay have NEVER held a cheap listing day on a Monday. This would suggest to me that Ebay.co.uk are quite concerned of the level of threat Tazbar poses. Even to the point that Ebay will probably deploy their trolls en-mass...No offence Dean.

HA, Alex... You said what I was thinking...
I for one get offended when members that have left eBay are referred to as trash, etc... I have a good business... I have quality product that is in demand... I refuse to play eBay's game... I have the feedback and testimonials to prove it... And I am not alone...
Good article, Gary... I hope Tazbar does well; they sure have the drive and ambition to...

I hate to disillusion Dean but those on Tazbar are NOT those who have been kicked off ebay, indeed a great many of them are people who have been successfully selling on ebay in the past but are sick of all the scams and fakes there and neither want to be associated with those types (as highlighted in last week's BBC Watchdog programme) nor want to see most of their profit going into the pockets of Meg, Bill et al.
Indeed, with all the safeguards built into their system by Tazbar, ALL sellers and buyers have their addresses etc properly verified so there isn't much chance of coming across the same kind of scamming on Tazbar as you see on a daily basis on ebay.
I stopped selling on ebay in July and it's no longer my 'home page' on my computer. I couldn't be more disgusted with ebay, I've even given up searching for scammers, account hijackers etc and reporting them on ebay as even if their listings are taken down they reappear withing minutes, under another username but the ads are identical. Time ebay took responsibility for that lot and for the other scammers, fraudsters and shill bidders who have multiple accounts set up to, initially sell to each other to build up feedback, then to con the public or bump up their prices to 'encourage' people into parting with hundreds of pounds/dollars of their hard-earned cash.
I couldn't recommend ebay to anyone these days, it's a site which is open to the dregs of humanity.
Tazbar, on the other hand, take security seriously and instaed of stock replies from a computer you can discuss any issues with real people.
Anyone who wants to look for items on ebay should first see this site http://pheebay.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=21 the link should take you directly to a section which shows examples of illegal activity and explains how to spot them.
I don't think any such instruction will ever be needed for the Tazbar site.
So, Dean, you can keep your ebay all to yourself while the rest of us enjoy honest trading on www.tazbar.com

I object to Deans comments my feedback on Ebay is 100%, I left there from choice and frm what I see on Tazbar there area lot of good sellers providing a good service to their customers. A low life did attempt to infiltrate and lasted a matter of hours, scammers are not welcome and you won't find feedback rigging, multiple ID's cross schilling, like you do on ebay. I've bought from there and had no problems whatever, which cannot always be said about eBay!

I have to strongly disagree with the opening persons comments
I for one am certainly not sludge from the bottom of the barrel , I am honest and hard working and enjoy selling on internet auction sites
I joined tazbar a few days after they went live and it has been a pleasure, if you have a problem then someone will always get back to you , suggestions are always listened to and you feel like part of a community not just another number like you do with e.bay.
Obviously don't just take my word for it come and have a look you've nothing to lose, listing is free and so easy. what are you waiting for ?

Dean I think you have got very confused. People are leaving Ebay of their own free will they are not getting thrown Off. The dregs are what is being left behind on Ebay. Amonst all the illegal activity and Scams which Ebay are prepared to let happen as proved time and time again. I thnk you need to take another look.

I have been selling well on Tazbar since mid August, and all I can say is WOW. Catagory you need? Here you go. Can't figure something out? Human reply in an hour. THAT is what community is about.
Lee, James, Tim, Glenn, Matt, and everyone else behind the scenes at Tazbar are working flat out to ensure a premium service for their customers. Those of you that scoff at Tazbar now will be choking on your cornflakes before long. EBay have angered too many people in the last 6 months. Nice move Meg ... ;o)

I have been with Tazbar for a couple of months now and i have watched it grow at an alarming rate. When i first saw the site i realised it had something extra compared to others i had looked at,and that is it's very customer friendly. You will not be bombarded by lots of adds and it's very easy to use.
As a seller it only takes minutes to list and if we ever have any problems the guys(lee, james and co)sort it out quickly.Customer service is where they are winning-they have all ready beat ebay at that.
I and others are selling well and the forums are like one big family.Lee and james also come onto the forums a lot for a laugh and a joke but also he keeps us updated with everything thats happening.
My opinion is this is a site most definatly checking out,no listing fees and 1st class support.
Tazbar is a very serious contender for ebay, watch this space.

Tazbar aims to be a SAFE FRIENDLY auction site in fact everything eBay is not. When was the last time you had a personal reply to an email you sent to ebay. On Tazbar its normal to get a quick answer to any questions from the staff.
Their growth has been amazing and has only just started. Don't get left behind. Are YOU doing it. I am

I joined Tazbar in September and have been gradually moving my stock from eBay to there since. Customer service is second to none and although I visit the Tazbar forums several times a day I have seen totally no evidence of trolls or flaming whatsoever. The dregs of eBay will have to stay put as they wont last very long on Tazbar - our members care about each other enough not to let them stay - this kind of community doesnt exist on eBay. I actually visited the boards on eBay yesterday evening and it wasnt long before I remembered why I dont often go there. I quickly legged it back to the safety of being among friends on Tazbar. I wish Lee and the Tazbar crew every success - they deserve it after the hard work they have already put in. Are you doing it? - if not - why not? You will get a friendly welcome and wont get your threads pulled for mentioning eBay or any other site.

Dregs? I take exception to being called dregs. I'm a powerseller in good standing but I can no longer afford to list my whole range on ebay. Tazbar, on the other hand, will have every colour I can stock listed for the public to buy(I sell silk scarves). A clean, friendly site with no banners, no junk and no counterfeit goods is just the sort of place I like to be. Madelaine

I object to your comments Dean - I stopped trading on eBay in the summer after the changes to the shops visibility with a 100% feedback record. It simply became a non-viable option. Having been selling well for many months after my shop opened, I rapidly dropped to 2-3 sales per month. That, the crippling fees and the constant struggle to counteract dozens of Chinese listings forced me to give up. I have been with Tazbar since 10th October, I have received answering emails within 30 minutes of a problem or query occuring and new categories up and running within 12 hrs of request. On top of all that, I have sold more in the month I have been a member than I did for the final 6 months of my eBay life. The forums are fun and more importantly - VERY helpful, the site is very easy to use, there are more options available for buyers and sellers alike. Which makes the whole Tazbar package an absolute winner, in all it's members eyes and pockets.

I also have 100% positive feedback on ebay , although now I sell on Tazbar, I first visited the site in mid september . What I found there was an easy to navigate site,a forward thinking management set up, with the end user at the core of it's thinking...both buyers and sellers alike. Tazbar listens to it's users and responds both quickly and with well thought out answers ,not the standard response emails that don't even hardly touch upon the question ,that you get from certain other sites...
It has a lively, friendly forum where there is no need for a posting id....because nobody has anything to hide.
Lee and the Tazbar team are not expecting to take the world by storm overnight, they have a well planned strategy for both now and the future, where Tazbar grows at a healthy rate, slowly at first , but steadily. I for one belive that this is exactly what WILL happen, because they have planned it well. They haven't just rushed in like others that have trod the road before them and vanished into obscurity. Lee and his team were powersellers when the idea of Tazbar was just a seed in his mind, they had been selling on ebay since its early days and they DO know their business, it's obvious in their approach, in their posts both on and off site,in the everyday workings of the site. It's WHY when sellers join Tazbar....they stick around, they want to be selling on such a site, because they can see the promise it holds for themselves and their futures.Tazbar is the future of online selling , YES it is small, but that's now , with the investment that has been put in already, and I'm not just talking money here, together with what will be put into the future of the site, it cannot do anything else.......
The real question facing sellers who want to see their businesses succeed is not "shall they register on Tazbar" but indeed "when".

I was trading on ebay for many years, but started to get more non payers, less sales and the fees were high. You can keep all that on ebay, but if you want low fees (non at all to list and relist) and a friendly site then try Tazbar. You`ve got nothing to lose. Its an easy site to use, the forums are great and the site has human staff who you can contact and get replies from. Ebay are on the way out, more and more sellers are looking elsewhere

I too came over from ebay with 100% feedback (None of it bought from ebay to falsify my records) It has been hard earned with honest fast and friendly dealings with my customers, who come back again and again.
I found a site that is friendly safe and easy to use.
Every member is verified before being allowed to trade, Any dodgy listings can be reported and removed in minutes unlike ebay which can take days if it is ever removed.
Any problems are sorted in a couple of hours.
No the trolls and scum are not on TAZBAR, we have left them on Ebay

I joined Tazbar in September and was impressed from the start by the friendly professionalism of the sites owners and the clean fresh look of the site.
I too am a business seller with 100% feedback on Ebay but the complete lack of customer support and the growing number of scams and fake goods on Ebay has left me less than impressed with the site.
Tazbar will succeed and Ebay should be worried. A fantastic site which is constantly being improved and customer support which is second to none.

I have been selling on Ebay for a few years now. Because of all its problems (scammers, non-existant customer service, the high cost of unsold items) it was never going to be easy to run a business on there. It was just about viable to offer the prices, service and variety of items I like to give my costumers prior to the shop changes.
However when Ebay punches, it likes to take you by surprise and make it a killer blow, and there is no way I can offer the lovely selection of items in all the sizes and colours I could before on Ebay. So if anyone is missing the variety and competitiveness in price that existed prior to the changes on Ebay, you can find us all on Tazbar. Without such a greedy and immoral landlord we can offer you even better prices than you ever saw on Ebay, where it is not unusual to hand over £2.50 in fees on the sale of a fairly low cost item (and guess who ends up paying that buyers). And by the way I am marching towards 1500 positive feedbacks and have only ever had one negative for an out of stock item, so contrary to the first poster, it is the forward thinkers you will find on Tazbar, not the dregs of Ebay. If you want the dregs of Ebay, you can find them in the usual place.
