Something many of us don't regularly think about concerns something the world needs to operate day in and day out -- light. Although there is plenty of natural sunshine that covers the planet, the need for indoor lighting for homes, businesses, factories and warehouses remains a need and will never go away. How about trying to save on all that energy use? Global retailer Wal-Mart ,Inc. (NYSE:WMT) wants to do its part (however symbolic) by using more energy-efficient trucks and stores in many areas. It's hard to argue that Wal-Mart is not doing good for the environment here, even as those efforts probably pale in comparison to the environmental damage Wal-Mart does in some areas.
In addition to that, the retailer seems to now be pushing sales of fluorescent lighting in an effort to get rid of the inefficient incandescent light bulbs that customers usually buy. Those types of bulbs rarely need replacing and use way less energy than traditional bulbs. Of course, Wal-Mart wants to capture those sales -- but then customers may not ever be back to replace the bulbs for a decade or so.

We switched to these CFC type bulbs 6 years ago spending about 150 dollars at the time to do the whole house. We have saved about 1000 dollars on our electric bill in that time and rarely replace a bulb. It amazes me that most people have not yet picked up on this technology! The bulbs now come in a variety of shapes and sizes so they now look good as well. I guess most Americans would rather give their hard earned money to the power companies.

what a joke these bulbs that walmart sells don't last the amount of time that they are susposed to. we bought some and they blew out in five days not seven years but five days. my mom bought some in n.c. and they did the same. this is not a bad batch it isinferior technogly that the chinese manufacturer is using. they could get the same cost effective energy saving bulbs from s.c. manufacturer that actually does work while helping the blind and disabled people that make them and they don't. tell me what is wrong with this picture? brought to you by a former walmart employee who worked for mister sam. sam walton would be rolling over in his grave right now if he could see this. and by the way the american manufacture GE is laughing all the way to the bank knowing that walmart and the news media are making fools of themselves by trying to look like they care, and the stupid people that bought these things will never do it again.
