You don't speak the language: Beware of FOREX scams

More

I receive numerous spam emails about foreign exchange (FOREX) trading "opportunities" and I've even seen late-night infomercials advertising trading systems. There is an article in Saturday's Wall Street Journal (subscription required) about the proliferation of "scam artists" using FOREX to dupe investors. In the past 5 years, more than 25,000 investors have lost money to fraudulent current trading operations.

The volatility and speculative nature of currency trading probably make it a poor fit for most individual investors. However investors looking to make bets on currency fluctuations and macroeconomic events can do so with considerably less risk through exchange-traded funds. If you are going to consider FOREX trading, be sure to check out the article for tips to avoid scams.
