Mr. Adam Monk -- a stock analyst for the Chicago Sun-Times -- expects big gains from pharmaceuticals this year. Mr. Monk also likes medical supplies and ladies' apparel. Furthermore, he likes hanging upside down on tire swings and catching bugs in his teeth. That's because Mr. Monk, whose stock selections the last four years have beaten all the major indexes, is a 35-year-old cinnamon-ring tail cebus monkey from Brazil. But that's not all. He's hosting the Sun-Times' Monkey Manager stock picking contest, which celebrates "the wisdom of the everyday investor." And here's how the contest works: Readers (that is, non-monkeys) send in a U.S.-traded stock pick of their choice by January 22, 2007.
The stock with the biggest price appreciation by the end of the year wins a seven-night trip for two to Gran Bahia Principe Tulum in Riviera Maya, Mexico. (Runners-up get four pesos off any medium pie (dine-in only) at Pizza Patron.)
In any event, here are Mr. Monk's stock selections for 2007 which, for those who are wondering, were procured by laying out the newspaper and handing the monkey a red pen.
Fruit and vegetable distributor Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. (NYSE:FDP), ladies' apparel maker Cygne Designs Inc. (NASDAQ:CYDS), health care packager West Pharmaceutical Services (NYSE:WST), urological device manufacturer American Medical Systems Holdings (NASDAQ:AMMD), and (one non-stock) the exchange-traded fund Market 200 HOLDRS (AMEX:MKH).

I have let some monkeys convince me of wise stock investments in the past. Mr Adam Monk seems more on top of this than they were. His instincts seem quite useful.

Adam isn't monkeying around with these picks! I trust him more than an investment broker...they don't call them "brokers" for nothing, do they?

My biggest returns have been from stocks that "experts" said were bad .. so I don't put a lot of faith in brokers. I pick my own based on supply / demand of products or services .. works great.
I like the monkey .. saw them do amazing things overseas.

I just set up a portfolio buying 2000 shares of each of his picks. We'll see what happens. The total value of the portfolio is $294,000. you are welcome to email for updates. I will not set idly by and watch any crash and burn but do plan to stick with it as much as 25% drop.

Lee, you are "the man"! (or fill in the appropriate gender), that is gutsy and and should prove to be, at the least, quite entertaining. Way over my means, but have fun with it!

This picture is of a chimp, not a monkey. Maybe he's the boss trying to take the credit.
