James Cameron finds Jesus ... No, not like that

More

Remember when James Cameron directed the Terminator movies and he was unequivocally regarded as awesome? Then he made this little period piece about some boat sinking, proclaimed himself "King of the World," which was perceived as arrogant but was really just a quote, traded in wives, and was never really heard from for nearly a decade.

So what's the best way to move back into the limelight? Find Jesus. And not in the same way that Stephen Baldwin has. The Oscar-winning filmmaker said yesterday that a group of stone boxes, originally discovered two decades ago within a hillside tomb in Jerusalem, once held the remains of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.

Also reportedly discovered by a trio of archaeologists working with Cameron were the burial remains of Mary (Jesus' mother) and Judah. Who's Judah? Oh, just the alleged son of Mary Magdalene and Jesus, and a tangible challenge to much of the New Testament.

On the Today show yesterday, Cameron noted: "I looked at the evidence initially, and as a layman I found it to be compelling." Years worth of statistical analysis of DNA and other evidence, including inscribed names on the tombs, reportedly sets odds of 600-1 that the combination of names on the boxes didn't belong to Jesus and his family.

A documentary about the findings, The Lost Tomb of Jesus, will air Sunday evening at 9:00 p.m. on the Discovery Channel. The channel is under the Discovery Holding Company (NASDAQ:DISCA) umbrella, a holding vehicle created by Liberty Media. Is this challenge to 2,000 years of widely held beliefs not worthy of one of the major networks? Maybe that says it all.
