This post is part of our Battle of the Brands feature. Let us know which brand you prefer, and watch out for more Battle of the Brands posts.
There really isn't much of a battle of the brands between Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) and JetBlue Airways Corp. (NASDAQ: JBLU).
Southwest Airlines is clearly the superior brand. It's the low-cost airline that everybody loves. I've flown Southwest a few times myself and found the service good, though I was annoyed by the trash that I found underneath my seats. I've never flown JetBlue because it doesn't fly out of my local airport in Philadelphia, while Southwest does.
In some ways, it's not a fair fight between Southwest and JetBlue. Southwest. which was founded in 1971, operates 2,800 daily flights in 60 airports in 59 cities across the United States. JetBlue is eight years old and serves 50 destinations with 550 daily flights.
Investors also prefer Southwest. Its shares are only down 3 percent this year, compared with the 17 percent decline for JetBlue.
Though its tempting to argue that Southwest will destroy JetBlue in the marketplace, I'm not ready to write off the scrappy New York-based airline quite yet.
When I wrote about how JetBlue handled the weather-related delays on Valentine's Day that left thousands stranded on airport runways for hours, I was impressed by the fanatical devotion of JetBlue's customers. People want to give JetBlue the benefit of the doubt.
That says quite a bit about the power of the JetBlue brand.
Southwest should realize that JetBlue may be down but it's far from out. If the airline can show that its Customer Bill of Rights actually is worth the paper it's written on, consumers will go out of their way to fly JetBlue just as they do for Southwest.
Once that happens, there really will be a battle of the brands.
Be sure to vote in our poll for JetBlue or Southwest as your preferred brand, and let us know why you love it in the comments. Results of all Battle of the Brands match-ups coming soon.

Please read post 17 what an idiot.. Tina obviously doesnt know the first thing about jb. Keep taking the meds and make sure to tell yourself that " people like you"
Honestly JB is an excellent company with the latest technology and newest planes..
SOUTHWEST FACTOID:
Because southwest has both older generation and newer generation 737's they have actually had automation and technology systems that have been integrated by boeing into the newesr planes DISABLED
One such example is the autothrottles the older planes were manual the newer planes are digital.. The newer planes autothrottles have been disconnected to avoid having to cross train all pilots on the use of both systems.
Next time you are on SW think about the fact that a safety and automation system integrated by boeing engineers has been disabled for the " convenience" of swest operastions
S west has the route structure
Jb has the product hands down
If Jb continues to have a " Southwest but better mentality " they will do fine

your comments are soo amuzing (all of you)
try walk in our shoes, please.....here in Canada
we have only 2 big carriers: air canada & westjet and these 2 guys literally OWN THE SKY (in Canada)
we have THE HIGHET COST OF PER MILE IN THE WORLD!!!
many of you know that in order to have a competition-you need atleast 3 airlines serving the routes...with only 2-it's just a modification of the MONOPOLY (doupoly)...most of you may not be aware that for Torontonians is cheaper to drive to Buffalo tale Jetblue to Seattle via JFK and then Horizon/Alaska to Vancouver....than flying Toronto-Vancouver nonstop...some times is cheaper to take the same Air Canada Toronto-Miami-Vancouver than fly the sam nonstop...for a comparisson:
Buffalo-JFK where fares start from $39 ($47 with taxes)way...equals Toronto-Montral where fares when ading taxes start at $150 $300 round trip (nochange norefund)...imagine paying $300 for a Buffalo-JFK rtn and that being the lowest possible fare!!!
another comparisson would be Toronto vancouver where with the taxes you cannot get for less than $800 round trip...imagine if the lowest possible fare between the east coast and the west coast was...$800 nochange/norefund!!!! JFK-LAX...JFK-SFO...ocasionally during sales (in Canada)...it's cheaper to fly Toronto-via London England to Vancouver...you'll end up paying roughly the same as if you were to fly nonstop domestic.
saying all that...the inflight service of JetBlue is simply impeccable! it's JetCHIC if you ask me!
and it's deffinetely not a walmart style airline...rather a Boutique style service...all the flights i've taken on Jetblue are always the same:service-perfect!
so guys:fly! and be lucky you have such a vast choice to cater every taste!

Sounds like Tina works for JetBue or knows someone who does. Regardless of which, they need to find another job if they are that unhappy. She could not be more wrong about how JetBlue treats their employees. They are greatly appreciated and are told this frequently by upper management and the top two executives all the time. Also, those top two executives donate their salaries to a fund that is set up for the use of JetBlue employees and their families when there is a need. A union is a BAD idea. talk to other airline employees who are currently working under a union. find out how happy they are. ( I think you will be very surprised).

I truly believe that Southwest is better. I have worked for many airlines; looking at jetblue and the way that they are wasting money they won't be around very long. That's what happy to ATA they got greedy and started wasting their money on the finest airplanes and looks who own them now. They cant even afford to hire their own agents. Southwest put internal and external customers first. They look after their employees.

The most important thing to remember is Jet Blue has their heavy aircraft maintenance done in El Savador while SWA aircraft are maintained in the USA.

Having flown both airlines, Southwest is a cattle car experience and Jet Blue is a Rolls Royce. I also don't see SW as being much of a low fare airline. I can usually get a lower fare on other airlines. Will be flying from Florida to Portland, Oregon end of May and my friend got a lower fare on Continental than he was quoted from SW. Nuff said.

I do not understand why a person would work for any job they disliked. If a flight attendant is an unhappy employee he (she) makes the whole company look bad. As a frequent flier on JetBlue and an occassional (last resort) SW flier I can say crews on both are generally friendly and helpful. When I fly a "unionized" airline I get either a hag or fag with nasty attitude. If you don't like what you do QUIT OR MOVE. A little loyalty to the hand that feeds you please.

I am a Southwest employee, and all I can say is both airlines are great. I hope that you will continue to fly Southwest, and I will do what ever I can to make your experience a positive one. Please voice your concerns so that we can work on fixing any problems that you have.
Thank you,
Dedicated employee

JetBlue offers a nicer inflight experience, that's true. However, Southwest gives you a good inflight experience, plus far more flexibility at no additional charge, and far more reliability that's been consistent over time. If you miss a flight or your plan changes, Southwest offers so many more options at no trouble or cost. Jet Blue will charge you 30 bucks each time you make a change, even same day changes, and that's IF they even have a seat and IF they go to your new destination at all. The overall experience is better at Southwest hands down, that's why it's 79% for SWA up there.

I have flown with Southwest and Jet Blue. After flying with Jet blue, I have never gone back to Southwest.
Everyone is very friendly and happy at Jet Blue. The crew always entertain the customers with jocks, stories and it's a fun atmosphere, I feel light hearted and less stress along with the rest of the passengers. Jet Blue's air planes are impeccable. Southwest was filthy. Jet Blues direct flights are amazing. I get to Florida in 2 and a half hours, not in 5 to 8 hours.
