Google: taking over the world!

In business, corporate branding is one of the most important things that a company can have going for itself, and according to a new report yesterday, Google is now the top-ranked brand in the world!

It became pretty obvious that Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) had been transformed into a household word last year when President Bush admitted to using "The Google", but the fact that Google is now perched at the top of the list of brand recognition is quite an amazing accomplishment.

Google, who does very little advertising, has relied on the most simple of all advertising methods... word of mouth. And now that Google has greater brand recognition than companies such as General Electric (NYSE: GE) which is ranked #2, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) at #3 and Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) ranked #4, and it safe to say that Google is one step closer to taking over the world, assuming that it hasn't already accomplished that feat.

The report by market research firm Millward Brown also shows strong moves for Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) which jumped 13 spots to #16, Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ: SBUX) which is 13 places higher than a year ago at #35.

Michael Fowlkes has worked as a stock trader for seven years and spent the last two years working as an analyst for the online investment advisory service Investor's Observer.

DISCLOSURE: Mr. Fowlkes owns and/or controls diversified portfolios of long and short stock and option positions that include holdings in GOOG, GE, KO and AAPL.
