According to a new survey conducted by Nielsen for eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), the average American has over 50 unused, salable items, representing an average outlay of $3,100, cluttering up his house. Of course, the conclusion they want us to reach is "Oh my God, I gotta get this crap up on eBay!"That wasn't the response they received on this survey, however. Three-fourths of the respondents intended to donate some or all of the flotsam and jetsam, while over half said they were going to hang on to some items in the event their good-for-nothing son-in-law finally did right by his wife and started a family, then they'd need that crib and bassinette and won't that make them think twice about criticizing their hoarding habit!
As I thought about just which of my treasures I might part with, I thought to browse eBay to see what kind of crap others are selling. Searching under the word 'crap', I found
As I thought about just which of my treasures I might part with, I thought to browse eBay to see what kind of crap others are selling. Searching under the word 'crap', I found
- A 48-piece case of plastic dog crap. You'd be amazed at the variety and volume of plastic excrement that is offered on eBay. Think of the heretofore unfullfilled consumer demand!
- A matted Japanese calligraphy of the word 'crap'.
- A Japanese copy of the Clash's CD Cut the Crap.
- A hideous cowgirl figure standing next to a sign that reads, "Behind every good man is a woman who puts up with a lot of crap!"
- Numerous copies of the party game Fact or Crap.
- A Copy of the book Crap Cars.
- A T-shirt reading "Country + Rap = Crap".
I'd like to get some of my $3,100 back selling my unwanted crap, but I fear my stuff doesn't begin to compare with this craptastic selection.
