The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas hit a record $3.196, not accounting for inflation, according to the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. If using inflationary terms, 1981's $3.223, we're probably going to surpass that quite soon, heading into the Memorial Day weekend.
If you read Brian White's Gasoline prices go off the deep end on May 7th, you would have read nationwide gas prices surged to $3.07. In just two weeks we've seen a 12 cent bump, and some analysts don't expect the momentum to stop.
According to an AAA survey, some 38.3 million Americans are expected to drive more than 50 miles or more during the Memorial Day weekend, up 1.7% from last year.
With gas prices growing ever so quickly, where do you stand? Do you plan to cut down your traveling this weekend? Will the growing prices reduce your driving habits at all?

I am a single mother of 4 children, the gas prices are cutting hard into my budget. It's hard sometimes to explain to them that i can't buy them some things that they want because its just me taking care of them. I make $10 a hour and betweem feeling up the tank, making my house payment $350, making my $400 a month car payment, and light bill, water bill, car insurance , and all the nessitys of life and making sure they have clothes and they are growing like trees. I am always broke. The people who ever they are, don't even take the time to even imagine what it must be like to live pay check to pay check. My life would be a little easier if my childrens father would pay his little $305 a month in child support. But he took the low lifes way out he became a crack head. So now all i can do is try to find a second job to work on the weekends just so we can make it without me losing everything we have. I really hate to give up what time we have together on the weekends but i guess thats just how life goes.I'm trying my best to teach them to never give up, wouldnt it be a shame if i did?

It has been said that on Independence Day, July 4th at 12noon, Americans will shut off cars, pull off the roads if driving and blair horns for one minute in protest of these high gas prices. Hopefully our government will hear us and do something. I hope to be joining them.

Sorry folks, it's only going to get worse. The Oil industry is straining to keep up with worldwide demand. Now there are reports that the Ghawar Oil field in Saudi Arabia has peaked. The end of cheap energy is OVER. Oh, By the way, the government has no 'Plan B.'

Gasoline prices are being manipulated by the oil companies. They have eleminated competion along every avenue of competion, and then they try to tell us that they don't control the price of gasoline. Why don't the oil companies just bite the bullet and say what they mean "were going to screw you to death and their isn't anything that you or the government can do about it. Honestly, a little vasoline goes a long way. Thanks for the ride!

It's not the Oil Companies. Global Oil supply has peaked. We're in for some bad times ahead.

I think we should have a Martin Luther No Pump Holiday where no gas is sold what so ever and paid holiday! What do you think?

By the way, what is the difference from 6 months ago when gas was a little over $2.00 a gallon? The oil companies "tried to gouge us in 1973, early 80's, and early 90's, nothing's changed. Johnny Carson once had a monologue that said New York City had a shortage on toilet paper and the next day the city was sold out! Let it happen and it will happen.

I can't believe how expensive gas is getting here in North Carolina. Even though we all talk about it here, I know it's worse in other parts of the country. We thought it would be interesting to see if people are changing their habits here, or have been making other adjustments in their daily lives. We took a survey, and the results are really interesting; 70% of drivers said they have changed their driving habits in the last six months and plan to drive less this summer. 60% said they have postponed purchases of other kinds due to excessive gasoline spending. But their responses on economic questions were mixed. We asked a bunch of questions about health, smoking, current events, and a fun one about which TV show should be canceled. You can check out our stuff on www.brogansurvey.blogspot.com.

Gas prices are high mostly because of supply and demand. If wastefull drivers, of which there are many curbed their appitite for driving and showed some concern for the resources they use with abandon the price would drop. BTW oil companies appear to be making big profits because only the total profit $ are reported. But if the profit margin was reported it would be a different story and you would see that on a basis of profit made divided by total gross revenue it is less than a lot of big companies that no body appears to be complaining about. It is definately less than the fed and State government makes in taxes on each gallon which has been reported to be 3x what the oil company gets per gallon.
Also consider the EPA and the requirement to make dozens of blends to satisfy environmental conditions on the US. Do you suppose the requirements are extreme, probably they have been taking to that end by excessive environmental concerns. Reasonable environmental control seems to be not a desirable approach?
I am not a lover or hater of any company but realize they are needed to make this economy tic and all derserve a reasonable profit margin just as you would want from your company.
Look around and realize that the future will require sacrifice to improve bad resource waste habits. So wise up and conserve a little say 10% that's not so hard and you will be amazed how far that will go in your life. You might even have enough $ for retirement with that amount saved each paycheck.

Is Congress going after the local gas stations for price gouging, but leaving the big oil to make record profits. As usual the politicians who have never worked a day in the real world haven't got a clue.

I won't be driving any more or any less than I do now. I try to make a point of driving 10 miles total per month, just to keep my driving and shifting skills from vanishing altogether. Other than that, I walk or take the bus. I live a fairly stripped-down life, so I have room to cover increased costs.
