Coca Cola's (NYSE: KO) purchase of Glaceau, makers of Vitaminwater, earned hip hop star 50 Cent 800 million times as much money as his name suggests he is worth.
It has been reported that 50 Cent will star in a commercial for the drinks, which will feature him conducting a symphony orchestra in a rendition of his hit "In da club."
I can't find information on how much 50 paid for his stake in the company, but it's safe to assume that he a made a massive return on investment here. He's not the first celebrity to make a fortune as an early investor in a company. Adult contemporary star Kenny G was one the original ten Starbucks investors.
But frankly, it's much more heartwarming to see 50 Cent making money, mainly because he's less annoying than Kenny G, although that's not much of an accomplishment.

You must be joking!
Curtis Jackson isn't even in the minor leagues compared to Kenny G's talent. Curtis' "noise" is worth less than 50 cents on the dollar.
The author of that piece doesn't know anything about music.

Isn't it amazing, only in America you can sell a company for that kind of money and the product really doesn't benefit the body, don't get me wrong they have done a great job marketing, but it has yet to be proven that this beverage and others like it truely benefit the body, a mistake on Coke's part this product has hits it peak!

Wow, that is all I can say. 50 Cent, hands down, has to be the best business man in the 21st century. He only signed his record deal for a million bucks in 2002. 400 million is amazing. In 5 years he is worth well over a half a billion dollars. Like it or not, this guy right here is a genuis.

My hat's off to you 50, and you are still single. I know Vivica Fox wish she was still your woman. However you made the right move on both.

Some observations on this article:
1. It got the point across --- the guy made money
2. Why was the addition of the "annoying Kenny G" made?.....is this just supposed to be reporting or is it the author's job to just make some assnine comment in the article he or she writes. The author could have reported that Kenny G was an initial investor of Starbuck's and left it at that.
3. I am not a fan of rap music, which I presume is the style of music of 50 Cent....but I am sure there is room for everyone and many like his music
4. Many like Kenny G....it can be debated as to which one of these two artists are "annoying" depending on the listener's individual taste.
5. There must be better news to write about, but then it would require a quorum of people to tell the media, "Well, what do we care?"
6. It would be nice if the public would start step up and encourage these media forums to deliver news that is unbiased, without wisecracks, and the eloquence of the author's personal opinion. Guess what, author, I could care less what you think about anything....I could care less that someone else is turning a profit....I am hoping that in this last forum I respond to, that one other person will see how very stupid this all is. Anyone willing to join....and consequently, get a life!

Try and keep you daytime job as a reporter of news and not a critic of music. The way you have written this article may have shown you the exit door. Your taste of music is biased and totally out of line. Music is art and apprecaited by individuals. Keep your opinions to yourself.

I agree with you Shelley. There is room for everyone to be successful in whatever it is that they do and there is definitely no reason to bad mouth Kenny G like that. I, myself, do listen to hip-hop, r&b and many other forms of music. As well as Kenny G who happens to be an amazing saxophone player. Not many are quite on his level of talent. There is no reason to make one person appear better than another based on someone's aquirred taste. If we COULD all just get a life and stay the hell out of everyone else's, especially when you have nothing to gain except ignorance to talk about them, this world would be a much better place. I wish I was in the place and time to make 50 cent's profit but I wasn't. Congradulations to him!!! If you stay positive and do something that you love, your time will come. Stop being a hater. Kenny G, you are the bomb for what area of music you do cover.

50 cent is a fraud. The only arguements that people who give this joke of an m.c. is that he makes money and that "so many people like him" (which means there is more than one moron like me. A con man makes alot of money. So does a prostitute. Which is not much difference when he sells gross negative stereotypes wholesle for those all to willing to eat up the garbage he throws out. He is hip POP. Not hip hop. There is a difference. the first gets you plastred on the cover of bubble gum teen magazines. The other requires earned respect, actual skill, and other things that will be other the heads of people who avoid this catagory for the first. 50 cent is a real rapper like Keanu Reeves is a real actor.

Not only did the author editorialize, but his facts weren't at all researched. Or perhaps he has no head for math. Wasn't the entire sale by Coke for 400 million to the company Glaceau? So 50 cent didn't make 400 million. In fact we don't know the value or debt of Glaceau to start, so we don't know THEIR profit. The author says he doesn't know what stake 50 cent had. He could have 1% investment, which means he profited no more than 4 million, but that whole sale wasn't profit. The headline was misleading enough, but the story is just plain wrong. Perhaps he needed a place to vent his musical dislikes. But who uses "I" in news reporting?

50 cent is a joke and a fraud. The only arguements that are given for him by those who shamelessly support free of chage is "he makes lots of money" and "alot of people like him" (the second meaning there is more than one moron like myself). A con man makes money. A prostitute makes money. That in mind there is no difference when it is your business to sell negative stereotypes, like 50 cent. he is hop POP. Not hip hop. The first gets you on the covers of bubble gum magizines and top 40 radio. The other requires earned respect by way of these things called skill and ability. 50 cent is a real rapper like Keanu Reaves is a real actor.
Maybe now he will do more for his grand parents since he has been doing an excellent job ignoring them. After they raised and taken care of him and the only thing thing he has done is looked out for himself and those he runs with. Says alot about those who look up to him because everyone who looks up to him seems to have the same type of views as he does.
Also, for your information. he is not the best businessman either. Get educated.

Poor reporting -- not only style of writing but downright wrong. Not the only one to point it out, but the sales price was $400 million, and 50 Cent did not own it all. Even the author admitted he did not know 50 Cent's stake -- so why state he made $400 mil?
Not a rap fan. I DO like to listen to Kenny G. in background sometimes, as I do with many types of music.

Sounds to me like FITTY (for those who are hip) is GETTING OVER and GETTING PAID ..and Coca Cola is smart enough see that HIP HOP can be used to reach a new (i.e. younger/hipper) market for Vitamin Water.
