Peanut butter manufactured under the "Peter Pan" and "Great Value" brands with the product code 2111 by ConAgra Foods (NYSE: CAG) is still making people sick, according to the latest report by the Centers for Disease Control. Although the entire batch of tainted peanut butter has long been pulled from store shelves, it's difficult to remove from consumer's shelves (especially as the two-dollar refund isn't exactly a money-maker). And processed peanut butter (as we well know) seems to last forever; I wouldn't be surprised if first-graders are still toting contaminated sandwiches to school in their lunchboxes next fall.So as my college track buddy Josephine always said around October when the sniffles would break out around the locker room, "sickness is coming." Sickness is still coming, and likely will continue for some time; 628 cases in a whopping 47 of our 50 U.S. states have been reported, with more than 200 new since March when the CDC last reported (the peanut butter recall was announced in mid-February 2007).
ConAgra won't be producing peanut butter from its Sylvester, Ga. plant again for a while, as renovations to fix the moisture problems blamed for the contamination are still underway; but the company will reintroduce its Peter Pan brand in July. But with customers still sickening, will anyone go back? Would you eat Peter Pan peanut butter again?

My husband and I both ate the bad Peanut Butter. In
fact we almost ate the whole jar for sandwitches at
least once a week.We would complain about not feeling too good, and not knowing about the recall of the jars.We still have the Jar to prove we ate it and got sick.I'm glad you think you found the
cause. Sinserly Elizabeth Odgen

I would like to recover more than the price of a jar of pb. I have the lid from one and an unopen jar of that same batch. The high powered antibiotic prescribed cost about $100. Add that to the doctor's office visit.

When the news first came out I check our PB and sure enough we had one jar almost empty (another full one in the pantry), 90% of which our grandchildren ate. I called my sons' and they both had almost empty jars of PP PB, and don't remember anyone in either family of being sick after eating the PP PB with the code 2111 on top. We all through
out what ever was left and our new jars.

To post # 2 from Christopher.........Christopher, is it safe to assume that you have never had E-coli or known anyone who did? Your attitude might change if you had.
I also wonder if you have children? I am guessing not, or perhaps you don't give a darn what your kids eat.
Also I wonder if it is worth the price difference for the more expensive Peter Pan brand, or does it all come out of the same batch, with one much, much cheaper, namely the Wal-Mart brand. I doubt I will ever eat Peter Pan Peanut Butter again. Wal-Mart never has nor ever will have my business. I have switched to Jiff.

people are looking for easy money, in most cases. the lawyers are creating a feeding frenzy. i ate Peter Pan almost daily during the times mentioned, and never had a bad reaction. whenever greedy people see a chance to cop a little dough, they will. surely some people became ill and had to go to a doctor, thats a given and they should receive compensation to pay the bills. any more than that would smack of a con game.

#4 Ed.... you're kidding right? "Is there a recall or a lawsuit coming?" It was recalled in FEBRUARY! It's been ALL over the news. It's above in THIS article. Hello?? IF the lid has the code #2111, tell your son to return it to Walmart for a refund. Since he obviously isn't ill since you didn't even have a clue there was a recall, you have NO reason to worry about a lawsuit. It's sad to see someone both so totally out of touch with reality and thinking because they find out NOW, four months later after the recall, that they can make a buck off of it when people did indeed get seriously ill from it, not to mention those who died from it.

A few years ago I had a pack of turkey dogs that I was going to cook for my friends and a couple of days before our get together I heard about the recall and sure enough the pack I had was contaminated. We were fortunate that I found out.
People in the food industry have to become more germ concious and train thier workers to be the same. Not just our country either.Look at China, if we don't harm ourselves, some other country will. People need to slow down and be more concerned about the health of others, not profits! I'm 68 and I can hardly believe the things that are happening in our society.

The biggest problem keeping well these days is THAT PEOPLE DO NOT WASH their hands. In Houston so many people are getting really sick just by going to the supermarket.
Kids with nasty diapers are sitting in the carts.
Their parents plop these kids on the counter while paying for their purchases. The Kid's nose is running and he is slobbering all over the place.
People who have been God knows where are putting their hands on the carts.
Jeez... it is enough to make a person boil everything they bought. The guy in the produce department hasn't had a bath in a week and he is bagging the lettuce.
You get violently ill and you do not know if it is what was in the jar or the filty hands that handled the jar.

It seems since Mexican worked started in food service jobs there's been a lot of trouble. I know companies save money hiring these people, but they should consider the health of American people. These mexican people don't practice safe clean habits. Until we stop allowing to work in our food services a lot of people will continue to get sick or die.

C. Smith you are a racist b----. There are plenty of dirty, people that exist in other races. I have witnessed people of all races not washing their hands after using a restroom. Or handling food products and then $ in fast food chains.

You can make delicious peanut butter with the nuts and food processor. I just hope we don;t have to go back to the times of raising our own beef, chickens, etc. Like the olden days. Then everyone would have to go out and plant their own gardens. We never had problems then. Yes I am older and we never had problems with butchering and preserving our meats and poultry. No one ever got sick from it.
