It seems Crocs Inc. (NASDAQ: CROX) got the message: A lot of people think those plastic clogs are pretty ugly, even if they are as comfortable as promised. In a move to expand its clientele, the company unveiled a new "You by Crocs" line of nine cozy boots and shoes.
Great, a new line of comfy boots and shoes from a popular name, right?
Not so much. While the plastic, brightly hued clogs are favored for their distinctive Mario Batali flair, the You by Crocs footwear line seems, well, bland in comparison .
The Wall Street Journal reports [subscription required] that CROX shares have risen 262% in the past 12 months to close today (June 6) at $85.05, up $2.88. Will this new line be the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow or will it be a crock of another kind? Unless there are some You by Crocs-shod celebrity sightings soon, Crocs might end up flat on the face.

WOW!!!!
All of this fuss over plastic shoes! I have to say and I am sure that several Dr.s and R.N's will agree, they are really comfy when working 12 hour shifts. So my thought is, if you think that they are ugly...don't buy em', but to be like "Nuh uh....MY whole family won't wear them because they are ugly" is juvenile and silly, and the play dough thing??? COME ON! Are you really that offended by someone else's choice in footwear???

I just love it when people like #18 Carol decide that those who think crocs are ugly are unable to afford them. I can afford them, my children have them. I however think they are the ugliest thing in the world and will not step foot into them. I am quite comfy in teh shoes I own. SO seeing as how I can "afford" them then I guess I can make that comment.

Crocs are in fact the ugliest shoe ever made. I can accept them for use in health care, in the kitchen, and gardening, but as a fashion statement they are AWFUL. I'm about to attend fashion school in July and will make it my mission to ensure that something this ugly never becomes hip again.

To further confuse the issue- I believe crocs are a knockoff of holey soles, Which I find very comfortable, but crocs just don't fit me well. As to beauty- not any worse than sneakers.

The originals are charmingly ugly-ish - and look OK in many situations. However, the new ones: YUCK !!!! THOSE BOOT-THINGS ARE UGLY UGLY UGLY!!!!!!! AND waaaaaaaay overpriced.

The originals are kind of cute-ugly-ish, and somehow look cute in many situations. But the new ones - especially those wedge-heeled boots-things, are VERY UGLY UGLY UGLY UGLY. AND they are also waaaaaaay overpriced.
I guess success has, once again, led to arrogant self-delusion and greed.

here's another healthcare person! And I wouldn't still be working if it weren't for CROCS. Sciatica can be a 'terminator' for someone on their feet all day. As far as the 'ugly' shoe goes, that original style definately has a 'quirky' look to it, but there are several new styles that are quite cute! I've recently obtained a couple of the newer sandal styles that are adorable, PLUS, they have a nice 'wedge' style too! brings my total to 18 pair :) I DO have 'other' shoes, but when i HAVE to wear them, they're only tolerated for an hour or so...and I ALWAYS have at least one pair of my old 'reliable' crocs in the car :)

I love the good old fashioned crocs. Comfy and soft soft soft - not like the knock offs. I was a little upset when they began making them in China instead of Canada - when I first began buying them about 5 years ago. Then I had to size them differently. At first the mediums were squeezing my toe, and although the sales girl said they would stretch - I didn't like a big toe being squeezed so I went up a size and bought big shoe inserts to wear inside which I liked too.
I've seen some of the other styles, the mary janes and other types shoes which are ok but these don't look comfy at all. But most women do not look for comfort - they look for style. So they will be reaching a larger clientele.

In Singapore, where the weather is humid, people are getting the hang and ease of wearing a croc and its really light and easy to wear. Of course, although it expensive, but the sensation of a light feet is truly worth it, which is somehow not available in all other type of shoes or flip-flops.

I have 2 pairs ... one clog and one slipper ... they're the footwear you can just jump into and go ... socks or no socks. The slippers are really comfortable ... and living in Hawaii, we know about wearing slippers!! They're really just about fun ... if you don't like them, maybe you haven't tried them. You gotta love the Jibbits that accessorize them ... great for the kiddies!!
