McDonald's Corp. (NYSE:MCD) is bringing to the U.S. a program it launched in Britain, which I blogged about recently, enlisting a crew of American moms as Moms Quality Correspondents to vet the quality of its food. Program Manager Tara Hayes told me that the company used a third party to assemble a list of 4,000 candidates for the volunteer positions, from which they have chosen six moms.
These women will be given unfettered access to McDonald's food supply chain and operations. Next month, for example, they will visit a beef supplier, and spend some time working behind the counter. They will write about their experiences and observations on a web site created for the program, mcdonaldsmoms.com.
McDonald's started a similar program some time ago in Britain, primarily to address charges of animal cruelty. There, it has gathered teams of volunteer "Quality Scouts" that visit and investigate the company suppliers. It's also created a special internet site, "Make Up Your Own Mind," to inform and answer the questions of concerned customers. For example, a recent question fielded was "Are there chicken eyeballs in Chicken McNuggets?" Thankfully, for my peace of mind, the answer is no.
Last year, the company started an international "Global Moms Panel" to advise it on how to make its restaurants as family-friendly as possible.

What does it matter if there are eyeballs in McNuggets or not?
I mean, what's the difference between a liver, or a leg, or a tongue or an eye? Or for that matter, between chicken meat and dog meat? It's all shades of gray, no?
Once you've decided to be a carnivore, what does it really matter what part of the animal you are eating? It's like saying a murder is more deserving of a harsh penalty if commited with a gun instead of a knife. Is there really a difference?
Become a vegetarian. Redeem your soul and your gut. And save some animals in the process...which can only help your karma.

So, this Moms program was origianlly set up to answer complaints about animal cruelty? I wonder, are they going to take the Moms into the slaughter houses? Are they going to show the Moms how the animals are transported from farm to salughterhouse, a journey that can last for many hours with not even a water break for the animals? Are they going to take the Moms to the farms to see if animals have access to fresh air and sunshine, or if they are raised in confinement for all of their lives? I wonder...

What kind of a loving mother would feed their kids a freshly fried, greasy burger?

First, I wouldn't make everything named "Mc" i.e., McSkillet, Big Mac, etc. The concept has been beaten to death.
I would welcome a charbroiled burger, made to order, rather than a burger sitting under heating lamps.
Frankly, the food is rather tasteless - more spices would be a great imporvement. Also, the sandwiches you serve have enough sauce to spill on clothes. In particular, the Big Mac needs a wrapper, lettuce leaves (not shredded limp lettuce) and red, juicy tomatoes.
More flavor in your shakes, and more drinks that are uncarbonated.

What does it matter if "moms" go to inpsect...it's still nasty fried junk food if you ask me. Theres no way that having a brigade of mothers on the lose is going to help thefact that Mc Donald's is not considered and will never be: HOME MADE COOKING!!
Some folks DO have time to waste!!

You are asking the obese, lazy mothers of our society to comment on your food? Between idol and oprah when did they become experts? If you want a dad's opinion, get rid of the double doors and hire a dietician.

Personally, I think they should "down-size" the meals and down-size the price. I love those fries but I certainly don't need all of them!

Lowering the price will only make people buy more or larger sizes.

How about some real food, for real families that no one can get at a drive-up..like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or egg salad or chicken salad sandwiches? Enough of the fried stuff.

Thank goodness I have been a vegetarian for 18 years. I took my children to McDonald's when they were children, and I regret that I didn't know the truth then. With the truth out, I can't imagine a mother taking her children to McDonald's. They should be reported for child abuse. Fast food (McDonald's and others) hurts the health of their children. We are in the middle of a fast food holocaust. Wake up people, and don't eat fast food.
