Got Crocs? If you're a student at Thompson Elementary in North Andover, Mass., you'd better leave them at home along with your bubble gum, guns and flip-flops. Principal John McAller has banned Crocs and all other footwear that does not completely cover his students' feet. He says he's "looking out for his students' well-being on the playground and in the event of a fire emergency," according to Boston's WHDH-TV.Sure, one elementary school banning the wildly popular resin footwear might seem like a nonsensical concern for investors in Crocs, Inc. (NASDAQ: CROX). But with the stock currently at stratospheric levels (CROX hit an all-time high today at $91.18, and is only going higher in after-hours trading) and many other safety concerns, from the dismemberment-by-escalator stories (I know, I know, I'm exaggerating!) to simple day-to-day trials of too much bark dust in kids' feet, the tide could be turned quickly. One too many cases of banned or boycotted Crocs and investors could see some of their amazing profits turn to ... so much bark dust.

Your comments: re: Shining Light - you've been wearing Crocs for 3 years, bought another pair, you like the shoe BUT since Bush wears them and "the
CEO is a Bush supporter", had you known you would not have bought them again. Makes a lot of sense. Gee, I absolutely love this cereal but since the CEO supports Bush and he eats it, even though I have
eaten it every morning for 35 years, I refuse to touch it anymore. See the intelligence (lack of that is) in your statement? Who gives a
hoot who wears what as long as YOU like the product? Will people EVER think for themselves in this country or learn that not everything in
life is political? If they're comfortable shoes and you like them, great! To stop wearing them because a "CEO is a Bush supporter" - well that is
being nothing short of idiotic. Speaking of which - some of you need to find the UNLOCK on the caps button. What the heck are you 'shouting' about?

I am a Physical therapist and I think Crocs are great. I do not think they are great looking but they mold to a kids foot giving the person a "custom" fitting shoe. They are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn and I am on my feet all day. It is the comfort factor that makes they so popular. also, you can just toss them in the wash with a load of towels to clean them. The guy who banned them didn't do his kids a favor.

I do not have the REAL crocs. I buy the walmart or payless ones. they are great for where I work until I go outside and then the rocks and things in the parking lot go right through them. I even got a nail that went thru the bottom and staright in my foot.
just be careful. they are much worse for this stuff than tennis shoes.

Has anyone checked the principles background for foot fetishes? The reasons he gives for making his students cover their feet seem pretty flimsy.

Sure Crocs may not be the best looking shoe on the market, but let me tell you, they are the most COMFORTABLE.

How did they get the name crocs? They were called flip-flops and beach sandals in the 70s. They are for casual wear . Not school or dress

I first bought a knockoff brand of Crocs, from Land's End. As someone who suffered from plantar fasciitis for 1 1/2 years (!), I was desperate for an open comfortable shoe I could wear that would let my feet 'breathe' in summer...I was tired of having to wear sneaks ALL the time! These shoes solved my problem. As for their looks, I got mine in flourescent yellow (I know.....ECCCHH!)

We live in Boulder, CO the home of Crocs. The kids in my daughter's school are only allowed to wear crocs inside and need to bring an extra pair of shoes if they want to go outside. Since we have 300 days of sunshine a year outside wins and bringing an extra pair of shoes is a hassle, so essentially, crocs are out !

Wow, you people need to go back to school.
As a chemistry teacher, I have a very big reason to banish those kinds of shoes from my classroom, regardless if the school allows them or not.
Chemical safety requires that you wear close-toed shoes for the reason that the equipment is made of glass and we are often working with corrosive materials, such as hydrochloric acid. Now, I don't give the kids the strong stuff, it's been diluted down with water, but it can still burn your skin.. and certainly, if a flask of it drops on your foot, your skin is cut open, and that acid is going to do some damage then on an open wound. And, above all, it hurts. There's also a reason safety showers are installed into every lab, even though you could work in the same school for 30 years and never need a reason for. Eventually, some kid will do something stupid.
By law, and you can look all of this up, I cannot allow a student even to set foot into the lab if they do not have closed toed shoes. They must sit it out and will take a zero for it.
Now, I know these kids aren't exactly of the age where they would be messing with HCl, but there are enough dangers with open-toed shoes. Mostly from falling objects... Yeah, they might at worst, get a broken toe, but it's a lot better to AVOID an accident in the classroom (even as minor as a pencil falling and putting a hole in a foot), than to give them the chance of happening.
And the reason for this? Is because parents have about gone insane with trying to protect their kids and when they do get hurt, they sue the school. A school, which barely has enough money to start with.
They have now removed many of the toys I used to play on when I was a kid, because they are now considered dangerous.
I don't blame the principle for what he did. He was probably getting complains from teachers over various aspects of it and it was just a lawsuit waiting to happen. It's easier to avoid trouble than to give it the chance to happen.

Ive worn Crocs ever since they first came out, before they became the craze. Ugly? perhaps not the most attractive shoe, But comfortable absolutely the most comfortable shoe ever made! And they last FOREVER. The perfect water shoe for Kayacking, River sports, or the beach. Um I think 6 inch heals, and platforms are much harder to walk in than crocs! As far as a saftey hazard, well thats just plain silly, Ive slipped more in flip flops! Debris does enter the beach or caymens, but you just rinse your feet off in the shoes and good as new.

Crocs are the best! Why would anyone not want a comfortable shoe? As far as the principal banning the shoe, so what! He may expect the students to wear shoes that will cover their feet, but what he expects and what he will get will be two different things. I retired from a public school system and rules are like any other law. It seems they are made to be broken. They will continue to wear crocs and nothing can or will be done about it.
