YouTube growth not abating

For YouTube competitors, it must be like drowning in an endless ocean. The video sharing site's audience is now 50% larger that all of its rivals combined.The competitor list has sixty-four websites.

The new study by HitWise shows that YouTube's share of visits to video sites is up 70% since May.

MySpace is preparing to improve its video section and consolidate some of its video-sharing into a section called MySpace TV. It hardly seems worth the effort. May data shows that YouTube has over 60% of the video site market.

Despite the fact that YouTube has a position in video similar to Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) in search, the site is still primarily a collection of useless content. The new "Die Hard 4" trailer is one of the most viewed videos of the last week, and this may help the film, but most of the popular videos include classics like "Drama Prairie Dog" and "Sexy French Maid"

Investors can probably see big sponsorship dollars coming in for the french maid thing, but the rest of the content is just junk.
