It seems that so many recalls and associated bad news have been coming from China in recent months. First, it was all about certain components in pet food (melamine), then possible contaminations in Chinese produce, toothpaste, then industrial chemicals inside many imported Chinese food products. Heck, even Chinese auto tires have been under the microscope. So, with all the bad news, China has closed 180 food factories after inspection teams found chemicals inside products that ranged from candy to seafood to toothpaste. Chinese imports have been under intense scrutiny for good reason in recent times due to the shoddy quality of many of them (home electronics items are prime offenders), but when the junky product list includes food and items meant for human consumption, the buck stops there.
Even recycled and expired food was found in the manufacturing chain according to China Daily in addition to such items as formaldehyde (a toxic preservative), illegal dyes and industrial wax. When you connect those items to food like crackers and seafood, it's amazing many people have not died from eating Chinese-made food items. Were these cases the work of a few rogue Chinese workers? Hardly -- this is a systemic problem with Chinese manufacturers from all accounts, with many of them being small enterprises according to Chinese authorities. Are those Chinese-made noodles in that box of mac & cheese?

I have been against"globalization" from the get-go.This is one reason why.We rely on other countries only because they can make things cheaper. One must realize they do not have our standards(which are too loose to me anyway).Noone knows anything about what goes into what you eat if they are foreign made, until people)or animals) start dying. Is it really worth a few cents less for this?Don't even get me started on Wal-Mart.They forced other retailers to buy from China also. But in fact its the STUPID consumer, who has put foreign products into our homes.Just STOP buying foreign garbage and many of these problems will just disappear.Tough though, nothing is made here anymore.Thank your govt for that also.

I am in total agreement with Brad. This is why I look for and buy only home grown products. Although extremely time consuming to decipher lables and packaging even in organinc markets it is well worth the time and effort. We are subjecting ourselves to third world country standards to hygiene and product stability otherwise and will see more and more illness and even death as a result of loose restrictions. Corporations importing these products to increase their profit margins will ose their margins in the lawsuits that will follow, but at least their numbers look good to their shareholders...Buy American Made insist on nothing less!!!
