My
BloggingStocks colleague Douglas McIntyre posted about the activation problems for the iPhone. There are also reports spreading across websites, blogs, and cable television.
The good news -- at least for Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and AT&T (NYSE: T) -- is that it looks like there is overwhelming demand. Yet, with all the hype, shouldn't they have been prepared for a mega surge?
A friend of mine, who is a gadget early adopter, bought an iPhone more than 20 hours ago and still can't get an activation.
According to my friend: "I'm still waiting even though my old phone has shut down. I'm an AT&T customer and
the number is porting. An AT&T rep I spoke to said there were some significant delays due to some systems being down since last night."
Well, as for Monday, it should be interesting to hear the spin from Apple and AT&T.

Well...I`m at day TWO and counting with my "ibrick".
AT&T can`t or want answer the phone.
It will make a good "bottle rocket" launcher for
the 4th of July!!!

My Niece was activated in 5 minutes and did it herself she is 13, Mine was activated in 10 minutes and this is the greatest phone ever Apple really nailed this one...Ths is leaps ahead of anything out there. know about 20 people who got activated immediately, so maybey the problem is not the phone...

I am an AT&T subscriber and I have gone 48 hours without activation. They also deactivated my other phone as well. I went to an AT&T store yesterday (at Atlantic station in Atlanta) and was told they would have the service on in an hour. That was 24 hours ago. I called AT&T this morning and now am holding for a represenative. I have been on hold over 2 hours.

$500 paper weight...One of my engineers came in this morning nonplussed that he had spent so much money and cannot even access the device to do anything besides place a call to 911...a rather expensive paper weight!
