Many will argue that this country needs some fresh faces in the political arena. But is a rock guitarist with polarizing views what people have in mind? For years, musician and second-amendment fan Ted Nugent has hinted at making a run for political office in Michigan or Illinois. The 58-year-old rock icon responsible for "Cat Scratch Fever" is still keeping this goal in mind. Before a recent concert, he told reports that "I have threatened [to run for governor of Michigan in 2010] and I was sincere ... Michigan was once a great state ... now the pimps and the whores and the welfare brats are basically the state's babies."
Good to see he's toning down his rhetoric in preparation for a move into politics.
America is certainly not averse to putting pop-culture figures in office. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fred "Gopher" Grandy, and of course Ronald Regan top the list. Don't forget about Jesse "The Body" Ventura, the former professional wrestler-turned-governor of Minnesota. But all of these men may have a broader appeal than Ted Nugent, who is simultaneously entertaining and turbulent. Appearances such as various turns on Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) VH-1 network hint that Nugent could be quite a loose cannon, which isn't an ideal trait for someone wielding important political control.
On the plus side, he has been a long-time critic of drug use and practices a clean lifestyle. He is happily married and lives a calm life of ease on a Texas ranch where he enjoys "barbecue every day [and] a lot of charity work]." Nugent has a couple of years to weigh the decision with his family and his constituents before throwing his camouflage-printed cowboy hat in the ring. The rest of us have a nice long time to think of puns using the titles to various Damn Yankees songs.

He is awesome and says it like it is.

Loose cannon? As a Vietnam veteran I'd say he has some loose bowels. At least that's what he has admitted to in numerous publications including the Detroit Free Press July 15, 1990. He stated that he urinated and defecated in his pants for an entire week to avoid serving his country during Vietnam. Hey, why not? Michigan could be the first state to have a governor with urine and fecal stained jockeys. Hope he doesn't plan on having to many cabinet meetings, he may be the only one in the meeting. That is unless the EPA puts him under house arrest for polluting the air.

If he avoided military service he's really no different than Dick Cheney or George "Champagne Unit" Bush or Bill Clinton or Ronald Raygun for that matter. Just keepin' it real. In truth, American's view military service, incorrectly, as something that happens to those other people who can't get real jobs. Our elections increasing rely on polarizing candidates and issues because Americans can no longer understand nuanced issues. Reporters have become personalities because we think we know them therefore we tend to rely on their assessment of the issues and base our understanding and acceptance on our supposed understanding of their fake personas. Take Bush for instance. He came to power with a tacit contract with the conservatives to overturn Roe Vs. Wade, rid the country of illegals, and ban gay marriage. Did he do any of these things? No. But, based on the manufactured image these same people love him despite the increase in the debt and the sham war in Iraq. Don't worry though, we'll get a Democratic president who will get in under similarly false pretenses and prove to be just as inept at govening. Why? Because it what Amercans have come to deserve. Fast food/fast issues. Ban books; we don't read them anyway.

Nugent has been "threatening to run for Governor for years. He will continue to "threaten" (good choice of words, too) us as long as it keeps his name in the headlines. Its a marketing tool. The sign on his wall says, "No Nuge in the News is bad news.. any NugeNews in the News is good news"
The above article listed his weaknesses (his public record) and his strengths..."he doesn't use drugs and lives a clean life style".... Well for crying out loud.. thats a pretty darn strong endorsement there, huh?
As for his family values lifestyle, anyone with a sixth grade education and a web browser will uncover the strength of character that belies that arena. He talks a good game, but the flesh is weak.
As he rails continuously about Pimps, Whores, and Welfare brats he somehow must overlook his own contributions that some of that dysfunction.
Which is worse, a leader who can't follow his own preachings, or a leader who can't think far enough ahead as to not make disparaging comments about other people, when he is guilty of the same character flaws himself?
Ted Nugent actually running for Governor of Michigan? I would love to see it. The entertainment value of Nugent having to answer questions about budgets and economic repair would be priceless.

We up here in the GNW would love to see him run as Governor. As I am a staunch ass-kisser of Ted's and do whatever he says, we would love to have some questions answered. Doesn't Ted live in Texas? Is he going to move back to Michigan or is he going to run the state of Michigan from his spirit hollow ranch in Texas?
Who is going to head up his campaign? Karen Gutowski? Maybe Monica has learned enough to Head it up.
Ted, as a TNUSA robot, please run for Governor, then I can say I kiss a Governors ass also.
