Apparently, Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) issued no press release when it started to pull two brands of dog food off its shelves. Odd, because they are both made in China.
Added to the tires and toys, drugs and dolls that can't be sold because the Chinese make them too dangerous are two new brands of dog food, Chicken Jerky Strips from Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co. and Chicken Jerky from Shanghai Bestro Trading. The big retailer started taking the bags off shelves on July 26, according to The Wall Street Journal. The paper also reports that "Philadelphia television station WPVI reported last week that a woman claimed her two-year-old Chihuahua died after eating Bestro Chicken Jerky Strips."
Perhaps Wal-Mart has to be careful about what it says. China is viewed as its most important growth market, and going after the Chinese on product quality may not be a terribly good idea. It would be tough if the communists started to chain door at the local superstore.
Also, Wal-Mart already sources billions of dollars of goods out of China each year. It might have to double its US staff to inspect all that stuff.
One way or the other, doing business with China is getting more expensive for Wal-Mart.

Once upon a time Walmart was for America, not anymore, it is for China so they need to move to China. Once I was a consumer of Walmarts, not anymore and I hope I can get more people to shop elsewhere.

Wal-Mart will be smart to stop buying altogether from the Chinese. They are a dangerous supplier country which will backfire on Wal-Mart if it continues its current practices. China will retaliate and will close Wal-Mart stores. Wal-mart shpould have thought of it before they rushed over to China to buy cheap stuff.

My dog got sick on those treats - luckily I quit feeding them since that was the only change in his diet, and I suspected they were the cause of his uncontrollable diarrehea - this is the second time one of my pets has become ill after ingesting walmart products - I had to have another dogs stomach pumped after he ingested Old Roy semisoft food that got "stuck" in his stomach - I would not recommend Walmart pet products be used by anyone, anytime.

All I can say regarding this latest move by Wally World concerning dog food items is that as a professional in the pet food business you get what you pay for. I see it every day when folks come through the doors feeding there dogs Ole Roy the horror of the shape these dogs are in. Loss of hair, patchy skin, dried out skin and dogs chewing themselves to death. Wake up America. You spend more going to vets offices trying to take care of the problems then spending quality money on that bag of food that is all natural. Remember even if it says natural doesn't mean it is. READ THE INGREDIENTS!! You would be shocked by whats in some of the dog/cat food on the shelves. Support your local pet store. They will steer you right.

I have long considered the old adage "The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten", and I am in the lower working class income group - one of the most tempted to frequent Wal-Mart for the promise of low prices. I have rather made my dogs and cats food at home from good rice and scrap meats during drought times when for a couple days I would have to wait for a pay check before I could go get them decent food. I have paid far more in vet bills after giving them bargain treats like Ol' Roy jerky type sticks and them have a peritoneal problem from the low quality hard to digest materials adversely affect a sensitive dog. I have never given poor food, I learned fast that even so-called value treats can be just as harmful. I know there is a place for cutting corners in the quality dept to save some money - I buy simple cotton rather than fine linen, but a living body is just too precious a thing to mess around with. You save more in the long room by doing it right the first time: Buy the very best you can buy and if you need to supplement, do it from your own kitchen AFTER asking your vet. If you can't afford it. Maybe you should realize you can't afford the animal at all.

Our pet Rosie, a 3 year old Chihuahua was poisoned from Chinese made Bestro's Jerky Chicken Strips #77849 00006 1 We have this contaminated bag. We have three Chihuahuas and one of them died one month ago. She started with vomiting and dehydration (she was drinking lots of water) and then we were told she may either have an obstruction or have been poisioned. Since our dogs are inside dogs and we are with them at all times outside we thought it was an obstruction. Finally the doctor at Elwood Animal Clinic in Glendora, California said he was almost positive it was some kind of poisoning. They were going to scope her but before that could happen she died July 21, at VCA in Fountain Valley, California.
We gave our dogs Waggin train and Bestro's Jerky Chicken Strips. Our Sweet Rosie (our chihuahua that passed) loved them and and she would eat all the treats we put down for the other dogs too. Up until today we never had any idea what happened but now with Wal Mart pulling this quietly from their selves. (I brought my treats at Wal Mart, Glendora, California) I truly believe that is why she died. Rosie wants all dog owners to be aware of this and a Total Recall of this chinese junk pet treats so other puppies don't slowly suffer is she did. How many other puppies must die before a total recall is called? We are totally heartbroken and will never forget Our Sweet Gypsy Rose! Since Wal Mart had this problem before, why didn't they pull all that Chinese junk off the first time? Our Rosie will still be alive! Is Wal Mart concerned about people and their Pets or Money? You figured it out.
