It goes without saying that it's pretty early to begin seriously evaluating our recommendations, but there's no harm in checking in on our stock plays.
Some performed better than others, obviously, but we happily report that all of our picks have gained since the feature ran! Seven picks are beating the Dow, which has gained about 2.95% since its August 15 close. One pick, Starbucks, is behind the Dow but ahead of the Nasdaq Composite Index, while three are trailing the Nasdaq.

Sheldon Liber's pick, Huaneng Power International Inc. (NYSE: HNP), leads the pack, despite one analyst's downgrade of China's top energy utility one day after our stock picks ran. Shares of HNP closed Thursday at $45.62, climbing 20.0% from $37.99 in the two weeks following the volatile-market feature.
Coming in a close second, South Korean steelmaker Posco (NYSE: PKX), selected by Peter Cohan, has gained more than $23.50 per share in the last two weeks, climbing 18.9% to $148.09.
Beyond the top two, our picks' gains start to settle somewhat:
- Kevin Kelly's sole-ful pick, Steven Madden (NASDAQ: SHOO), closed Thursday at $25.57, up 6.9% from $23.92.
- Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT), arrowed by Georges Yared, has climbed 6.7% since August 16, closing yesterday at $63.81.
- Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) -- profiled by Steven Halpern, sits at $96.85, 4.4% higher than two weeks ago.
- Another pick by Sheldon Liber, FreightCar America Inc. (NYSE: RAIL), closed at $44.93 Thursday, rolling 3.5% higher than two weeks ago.

- General Electric (NYSE: GE) -- another Dow 30 component favored by Steven Halpern, gained slightly less than RAIL, climbing 3.2% since August 16 to close at $38.40 yesterday.
- Also picked by Steven Halpern, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX) climbed from $26.61 to $27.35 in these last two weeks, percolating past its Nasdaq brethren with a 2.78% gain.
- Sheldon Liber's third pick, Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE: APC), performed only about a tenth as well as top pick Huaneng Power, gaining 2.21% to rise to $48.53 since the feature.
- Two of Georges Yared's picks close out our volatile-market plays: After dropping early gains, Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) sits 0.76% higher over the last two weeks at $50.21. And finally, Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO), Georges' beverage of choice, sipped out just a penny's gain over the past two weeks, closing yesterday at $53.40.

You all know what I think of analysts. Six 'free' minutes on bloggingstocks.com is better than paying them six figures.

Huaneng Power (HNP) has been a steady positive performer. Too bad you also didn't have China Aluminum (ACH) and China Mobile )CHL).

There are a number of good "foreign companies" on the NYSE, such as HNP, ACH and CHL...
