Apple's (AAPL) 'The beat goes on' event is today - what to expect?

More

There has been a lot of speculation over Apple Inc's (NASDAQ: AAPL) special event today, The beat goes on. Everybody wants to know what Apple will reveal, and anything from a new iPod to newly signed artists coming to the iTunes Music Store have been rumored. There is definitely a buzz of interest ahead of today's event.

The beat goes on will be held this afternoon starting at 1:00 p.m. EDT, and knowing Apple, it should live up to the surrounding hype. Most of the media speculation has been forming around Apple's highly successful iPod. Analysts everywhere are expecting to see Steve jobs come out and introduce the world to the new iPod or iPods. According to MacDailyNews, chances are that a new iPod is exactly what we will see today.

MacDailyNews is suggesting that we could see a new lineup of iPods inspired by the new features that were in the recently released iPhone. A couple of new features that the site is suggesting we may see in the new iPods (should we see new iPods of course) would be a flash memory drive, and a possible WiFi receiver, and touch screen interface.

Switched.com has suggested that we could see Apple announce they will be adding a downloadable ringtones store for the iPhone. There are also rumors that a new iPod may finally come with an FM tuner, and possibly could integrate a click-to-buy feature that will allow users to wirelessly download songs via iTunes.

All pretty intriguing ideas to say the least.

But what if "The beat goes on" has nothing to do with the iPod? What else could Jobs have up his sleeve? As Macworld points out, the location of the event itself, the Moscone West expo hall in San Francisco, is a signal that we could be in store for something bigger and better than just the announcement of a new iPod lineup. Macworld points out that the last time the company used the Moscone was when it unveiled its iTunes for Windows.

So, the stage is set for a big event... but what else could Jobs possibly be getting ready to unleash on the world? Is it possible that Jobs is going to do the unthinkable and bring the remaining members of the Beatles together for today's event?

That is exactly what AppleInsider.com thinks may be in the works. They quote the final Beatles press release from April 10, 1970 for clues. It is an interesting coincidence. Here is a snippet from that final press release as found on AppleInsider: "When the spinning stops -- that'll be the time to worry, not before. Until then, the Beatles are alive and well and the beat goes on, the beat goes on." Yes, the beat definitely seems to be going on!

Can we expect some sort on impromptu performance by the remaining three two Beatles? Well, that would definitely be a sight to see, but more than likely what we may see is the announcement that Apple has finally succeeded in bringing the Beatles to the iTunes Music Store.

Whether it be a new lineup of iPods, new artist deals, or who knows what else, one thing is for sure ... all eyes will be on today's event, and I for one think that Jobs and the Apple team will come through again with something special during today's event!
