Airline sacrifices goat -- According to Reuters, Nepal Airlines recently dealt with a mechanical problem on one of its Boeing 757 aircraft by sacrificing a goat to appease the Hindu god Akash Bhairav. (True.) Passengers were reportedly rightly nervous when airline officials began to openly speculate that they might deal with passenger complaints in a similar fashion. (Joke, I hope.) For those of us who love to tap out a tattoo on our steering wheel comes a great new invention -- DrumPants. The slacks have built-in piezo tranducers that convert slaps to the thigh to MIDI code, which can then be processed and routed to window-rattling speakers as drum and cymbal sounds. Of course, once in MIDI, the signals could also be processed to emulate anything from a piccolo to a steamboat whistle. I look for this product to be HUGE. Via Engadget
Coincidentally, we learned this week of another type of pants with a much soberer purpose: Tourniquet Pants. Blackhawk! Products Group have designed the Warrior Wear apparel with tourniquets already sewn into the shirts and pants, so that medics or others attending need only pull it taut to stem the loss of blood.
Finally comes a sad example of the worst in customer service. Dawn Larson of Rockford, Illinois, was born with almost no arms, but has learned to accomplish all of the tasks of ordinary life by using her feet. Except, apparently, meeting the local McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) customer standards. She recently pulled into the drive-thru and placed her order, then pulled up to the window and paid for her food. When she extended her foot to take the proffered food, however, the moron working the window "yanked the food back and got very vulgar with me,'' as she told Inside Edition. I guess that, after this incident, she isn't loving it anymore. Neither am I.
