You may have noticed that Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) has been struggling a bit of late. But not to worry, the company has a strategy to get things back on track. It is going to focus on low prices.
According to the Associated Press, Wal-Mart launched a new ad campaign on Wednesday, emphasizing how consumers can save money by shopping at the stores. This comes in the wake of the company's failed foray into fashion. The tag line for the campaign will be "Save Money. Live Better." I shudder to think how much an advertising firm was paid to come up with that one. If her private life is any indication, you have to think Julie Roehm could have come up with something edgier.
Stephen Quinn, Wal-Mart's chief marketing officer, said this in a statement: "The new advertising tells the same story we have told since day one, how we are working hard to save people money so they can live better."
But don't people already get that Wal-Mart can be a good way to save money? I mean, I would hope that people aren't shopping at the stores for the ambiance and customer service! The reason that Wal-Mart tried the whole Metro 7 line was that the "Always low prices. Always." story was no longer driving strong growth in the United States. The Metro 7 venture has failed, but that doesn't mean a new focus on Wal-Mart's one redeeming factor (even if it is a big one) will revive growth.

WalMart is always spouting off about how American of a company they are, yet not only does most of their merchandise come from China, but they are the only mass retail chain I've seen that 365 days a year stocks Mexican flags alongside the American flag. How pathetic.

LAYAWAY LAYAWAY
Christmas shopping for 3 grandchildren without Layaway is awful. Where I used to layaway about 600.00 worth of items, now I look for sales at other stores and shop in December. I know that my piddly business isn't needed by WalMart but they did lose me when they closed layaway.

Everytime I get used to where everything is in the store they move it around! I am so sick of trying to find $&!* at Wal-Mart. And the reasoning behind it is totally beyond comprehension due to the fact that they move the stuff across the isle about 3/4 of the way down from where it use to be is pure stupid. The new set-up sucks too and so does the women's clothing section. They have even increased their prices to compensate for their stupidity of moving things where you can't find them. Why can't they just leave things alone and just lower prices instead of confusing the consumer?

I have noticed that product quality by neighborhoods. I don't think this is right. Also, in Houston, why are they hiring people who don't speak English?

I must admit that I do shop Wal-Mart for a lot of my groceries and cosmetics. I don't think that all their prices are really that great, let alone "low", but when I go to the store, I figure I'm already there, so why not get what I need instead of shopping around at different stores. I am very disappointed that Wal-Mart discontinued it's "lay-a-way" services. I used it a lot, especially during the Christmas season. I also noticed that the biggest change in Wal-Mart is, they do not carry a lot of things made in the United States, as they once did. When Wal-Mart first came into our area, they were a proud store to acknowledge the fact that most of their store goods were made right here in the United States of America. That statement is no longer true, and as an American citizen, I think Wal-Mart should go back to selling American made items, and stop supporting overseas clothing, toys, etc. Afterall, this is America, not Japan, Korea, or Thailand.....or did we forget?

They built what they said was a beautiful new Walmart Supercenter in Fairmont WV that is not even a year old yet. It truly sucks. It has less choices and inventory then the old store. They decided not to have a tire center and so the tire center is there but has plants in it instead. Why did they take the sewing departments out of the stores? Everything is higher priced and they did away with over half of their name brand kitchen utensils. It is truly a sad thing that they think it is better and everyone around here does nothing but complain about the new store including the employees. The parking lot that was always overflowing is now almost alway sparse and you can almost always get a space close to the door which was never to be had before. The grocery store is there now but we don't see the prices any better then the other stores around. How I wish we still had the little store and not this big super center. Sometimes bigger is not better.

I have gone out of my way to NEVER shop at Wal-Mart. It took me a couple of years to wean my husband from their cheap teat.
I have never liked their corporate image, and I became even more disenchanted when it was made public they were able to offer such low prices using China as their production base. Americans were chiding Nike because their shoes were made in Southeast Asia; apparently the fact that the shoes purchased from Wal-Mart were made by similar indentured servants did not ruffle our morals.
The concept of quality has been lost in these United States, and we no longer require quality and performance from our clothing, shoes or anything else.
"It was cheap, I bought it at Wal-Mart, I can get another one."
When the discussion comes up, Americans decry the loss of a manufacturing base in this country; but when they line up to buy something "Made in America" is no longer important.

I think the worst thing that Walmart has done is remove the layaway, and now they are removing the fabric department. I have used the layaway department many times I buy alot of fabric there. But they are changing and not for the working class.

I read two comments here about walmart being higher in prices than target and I wanted to say to them ,are you kidding , we have purchased items form walmart recently that were much cheaper than target. same garden hose at target was 19.99 and at walmart it was 15.86. that is one example and we found about 20 more. Also food prices are way cheaper than what we found dryers fruit bars at albertsons and safeway were 4.99 and at walmart we got them for 2.88. Again that is only one example and we found at least 20 more the same. We are convinced Walmart prices are the lowest. Also we got a mister from walmart for 14.96 and the same mister from home depot was 22.97 and Lowes was 24.96. I think I have made my point.

Here are some reasons why I don't shop Wal-Mart:
1. Target stores are much nicer, with more room to negotiate carts and visually more appealing.
2. Target has much better service. The cashiers are much friendlier and handle checkouts faster. And if you are looking for an item, you not only can actually find an associate, but he or she can find the item.
3. Target's check out lines are much shorter. For whatever reason, Wal-Mart cashiers freak out with coupons. I used to find cashiers that thought they had to visually verify an item for each coupon, even though the coupons have barcodes.
4. Target doesn't have greeters. I'm sorry, but I just don't like the concept of a greeter. I go shopping to get my items and get out. I just don't need someone saying hello and asking if I need help.
5. Target pretty much matches prices with Wal-Mart.

Cheaper prices huh . I say no . prices on a great deal of things have went way up . Milk is outrageous , and I am talking store brand Milk . customer service is very bad . never can find anyone to help you when need it so you go elsewhere , and the fact that Walmart did away with layaway is going to cause them to lose a great deal of money . especially during holiday season .and yes K-Mart is a little higher , but I am sure lot of people will go there just for layaway . so many families used the layaway especially for Christmas so their children could have a nice Christmas, and they could pay on for couple months . even all year long people kinda relied on layaway. sucks . Walmart really does need to do something .. make customers want to shop there .

hmmmm uniform changes, and a slogan. they now where blue and khaki, and a slogan that says save money, live better. hmmmmm target employees wear red and khaki, and have the slogan expect more, pay less. something is going on here.

Perhaps Wal-Mart can offer "lower-prices" since a HUGE majority of their inventory is from China! They aren't saving the US citizens anything...just increasing their profits at our expense! We are sick of it.
Before you spend your hard-earned money,
Check to see if it's from China, honey!!!

Well, I Believe WalMart should listen to their customers we are the ones that help keep their stores open by buying things at their stores.
The customers want the Layaway plan back and they should have it back.
Not Everyone is Rich that's is why they shop at WalMart and the Layaways are needed there for their good customers, And for their customers who can only Layaway things that they need at Christmas for their Children.
I Don't Care who works there or what they think of having the Layaway plan ...The customers are the ones that are helping to keep WalMart Open and the saying goes ....Customers Are Always Right? Bring back the Layaways give your Customers back what they all want.
Sam Walton would of kept it, he knew all people are not rich and was fair to that.
Think about him and how he was equal to all.
We Want Our Layaways back A.S.A.P. .. Before This Christmas. Think About That..From a very good Customer that Always used your Layaway and Always paid it on time.
