Things are bigger down in Texas. Especially controversies that blend beef with cheesecake.Thirty-year-old B-list actress Alicia Silverstone (of Clueless fame) did a commercial for controversial animal rights group PETA recently. In it, the actress, an animal rights activist and recent convert to vegetarianism, climbs out of a pool to seductive music. She offers the camera various come hither-looks as she drips dry, and in an inane voiceover, tells the camera about how her life has changed since she's become a vegetarian.
I suppose the idea is to show us how good she looks, now that she's no longer eating meat. Too bad being a vegetarian hasn't boosted her vocabulary. "It's so amazing!" Is it now? I'm so convinced.
Oh, and did I mention she's nude? Because vegetarians love to go skinny dipping. Creative camera work and strategically-placed limbs conceal all the pertinent parts, but in any case, it's nothing you couldn't see on any cable show these days.
Except you won't be seeing this one on cable anytime soon.
Apparently this 30-second spot is creating quite the ruckus in Texas, where the Good Ol' Boys love their beef and the women who love them don't take kindly to skinny vegetarian girls with flat hair.
The commercial was to air in Houston, a spot chosen by PETA because of its alleged reputation for unhealthy eating, according to news reports. Unfortunately for the group, Comcast Cable, a division of Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is refusing to air the spot.
No word yet on why not. But Comcast owns the cable market in Houston, so this will be a small (yet expensive) problem for PETA in trying to get its message across. Maybe cheesecake in the land of the beef barons doesn't go down well. I'd like to give them credit for simply rejecting a stupid commercial.
Watch it here and decide for yourself. Is this the kind of ad that would make you swear off the flesh of your animal brothers?

Another way to encourage vegetarianism is to show a video of a slaughter house in action....all that killing ; all that blood, so one can have a dead slice of a formerly living thing.......

the only thing will make you fat is when you eat to much sweet and when you just keep shoving food in your mouth when you are so full already.....

Why are Americans so intimidated by the nude body? Nudity is entirely natural. I think most of us aren't as uncomfortable with it as we think. I believe the display of nudity has been vilified by those who have a sick mental mind with an unbridled perversion of the most natural state anyone can find themselves in. Or perhaps it's the little d*ck syndrome.

WE don't need anymore nudity..we get enough free shows from the media. Maybe they should put some light on PETA killing dogs to "take them out of their missery"

carver, you asked, ''' trying to educate people about the option of being a vegetarian. What the hell is wrong with that? ''
(/END carver4)
.............................................................................
I don't feel that there is anything at all wrong with trying to give one's opinion and educate others about any subject, and if a law is passed saying that we cannot eat meat, own animals, etc... then so be it...I would abide by those laws.....whether I agreed or not. ..and if I didn't agree, I would just wait til the majority turned back toward my favor and reversed the law.But it is the consequences of not accepting the opinions of those that are trying to educate others in their beliefs, at the times when the consequences involve 'direct action' via AR Radicals, that is where the wrong is at....
.............................................................................
carver4, you asked, ''''And how ignorant is it to lump animal rights activisits into one category, southerngal?'''''(END/ carver4)
carver4, you stated,''''You are generalizing ALL AR activists.''''(END/ carver4)
.............................................................................
Your definition and the major leagues AR's definitions of Animal Rights Activists seem to conflict, carver4.....If you do a search on ''Animal Rights Activists & Animal Rights Movement'', this is the definition given by top AR orgs. : ...the Animal Rights Movement is just all the AR Activists combined, and the AR 'Radicals' are just those in the AR Activists & AR Movement 'circle' that decide to take the law into their own hands, or 'direct action', as they prefer to call it..and you'll also find the statement, ''People who support animal rights believe that animals are not ours to use for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other purpose'' multiple times............thus said, if you have any issues of being 'lumped together', or
'generalized', then maybe you should address them to your advocates.
So how ignorant is it to not know what is considered by top AR's to be the true definition of the title that you wear, carver4 ?
And while not all AR Activists approve of the AR Radicals' direct action, nor take part in it, I have seen multiple comments where some AR Activists not only condone direct action, but praise it highly...and whether an AR Activists accepts the credo of the top AR's or not, they are still wearing the same title....)..and whether the AR Radicals are committing their direct action with the consent of certain AR Activists or not doesn't really matter to some people in'general'...all that matters to some is the pattern.
...I have no 'beef' against protecting animals from abuse..but I also believe that it's up to the courts to pass judgement whether an animal is being abused or not to start with..and/or to convict, condemn or punish anyone that does abuse animals, .the same goes for whether we should be allowed to use animals for food, own them as pets, etc............& not up to AR Activists that received an 'alert' and think that they are above the law, and do not want to wait until they can go thru the legal channels that it takes to get laws
passed, therefore deciding to wear the AR Radical's title long enough to commit 'direct action'... ...

carver4, you stated, '''I don't understand why people are so scared of something that's foreign to them''''''(END/ carver4)
.............................................................................
AR Activism, AR Movement & AR Activist Radicals are not ' foreign ' to me...I understand more than I really would like to know.
.............................................................................
carver4, you stated,'''''''You obviously don't personally know any''''''(END/ carver4)
.............................................................................
Even tho I know several AR Activists, that at this point choose not to take part in direct action (nor do they condone it), I know more AR Activists that do condone & praise direct action than I would really like to know..
.............................................................................
carver4, you stated,'''''I am an animal rights activist and I do not have any intention of taking anyone's rights away.''''(END/carver4)
.............................................................................
You may not, but the top AR Activist/Movement do, and you are wearing the same title.
If you say that's how you feel at this point, tho, then I believe you...as I said, I know several AR Activists that feel the same way at this point, but .....I am just curious, tho....if you belonged to an AR group that brought a pettittion into the group that was for the purpose of getting a law passed thru legislation that prohibited anyone in your state from eating meat, owning animals as pets, hunting, fishing, having rodeos & circuses, experimenting on animals for research of cancer & other diseases, etc., would you sign it ?...like I said, just curious, because if you haven't seen one, it is a very strong possibility that you will...and if you sign it, it will be with the intent of taking other's rights away, of course ..but if you don't sign it, then you will be going against the credo & purposes of the top AR's.....so maybe that's something you should at least be prepared to make a deciscion on, just in case.
.............................................................................
carver4, you asked,''''''Do you hear vegetarians roaring about those lame beef commercials? No. We're not going around whining that you're trying to take our rights away.'''''(END/ carver4)
.............................................................................
Yes I've seen thousands of rants from vegetarians 'roaring' about the beef commercials and 'whining' about AETA.
And considering that we are not trying to get laws passed that demand that you eat meat, , or take away your right not to eat meat, of course, you would not 'whine' in that area, at least....
.............................................................................
carver4, you stated,''''I hate close-minded ignorance. Ugh.''''''(END/ carver4)
..............................................................................
And since you're so close-minded that you can't see past what you percieve as the truth, and make judgements about people because you think they are ignorant, ......you like some people may ignore the real truth, but I am not as close-minded as you
think...I do believe that there is a chance that the AR Radicals will finally figure out that they would have and could accomplish alot more for the animals if they would stop the direct action...and hopefully they won't let 'close-minded ignorance' keep them from realizing that..
