U.S. regulators are recalling more than four million sets of the popular Aqua Dots arts-and-craft toys. Two children in the U.S. who swallowed the sets' beads lapsed into comas before recovering, and children also fell ill overseas.
According to The Wall Street Journal "the toy's manufacturer, Moose Enterprise, of Melbourne, Australia, yesterday said the problem had been traced to a Chinese factory it contracted that substituted a toxic chemical for a safe glue during manufacturing."
The timing could hardly be worse with Christmas just weeks away. Parents will not feel encouraged about buying toys made in China, but large retailers and manufacturers rely on them for their high profit margins.
Buy American.

I do not feel sorry for the retailers woes due to recalls of Chinese made toys. If not for their constant demands to manufacturers for lower prices, the goods would most likely still be made in the USA and not in China. Those idiot companies have no one to blame for their problems but themselves.

That's what we get for moving so much manufacturing offshore. No control on what's going into products coming back to the US. I'd rather pay more and know something is safe to use.

When will we as a nation stand up and demand that jobs return to this country?

When my daughter was a little girl, we started collecting American Girl dolls. These were high quality dolls manufactured in Germany by Gotz. They were a pleasure to purchase and own
Now Mattel has purchased the company and of course the dolls and their accessories are now made in Japan, but they are still Mattel's high end line. I wonder how long it's going to be until they start being recalled.

First lead, now date rape drugs?!! Enough is enough. If you're tired of China-made toys being your only option, please check out my website, www.toysmadeinamerica.com. Despite what the media would like everyone to believe, there ARE options out there. I've included links to over 100 companies making their toys and stuff for kids right here in the USA. Please check it often as I'm continually updating it with more links I become aware of. Thanks! Teresa

The old saying; "you get what you pay for" could not be more appropiate. Save a dollar and loose the store...This is justice. Buy American. Chinese toys will kill your children...
The Chinese say: "The sky is high and the emperor is far away"...when it comes to wrongdoing the sky is the limit when there is no fear of punishement. This latter event is criminal and should be punished, but it is not all their fault; we are fomenting this situation, so shame on them and shame on us...we are helping them kill our children.

As for our household with two young children, we have removed all chinese products, whether they are toys, food, clothing etc, from our shopping list until we obtain reasonable assurance that these preventable problems are corrected and effective controls and oversights are put in place and monitored to prevent these problems to occur again. If they are made in China, we are exercising our economic dollar purchasing power to send a lasting message by not purchasing goods from China. Is it an inconvenience? Yes, but we rather be inconvenienced than irresponsible. Besides, there are plenty of other non-chinese made goods that you can purchase. We hope others also vote with their dollars to send a clear message to these companies that their gross neglect to be mindful of the basic safety and soundness of the products bearing their brand name will not be tolerated.
