This post is part of our Hottest Products of 2007 feature. Also check out our other Hottest Products of 2007 posts and let us know which product you think is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
For gamers, the experience is everything, and their heroes are not the wonks designing Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)'s Xbox or Nintendo's Wii, but the creators of the worlds that hold them in thrall. None has done it better than Bungie Studio's Halo 3, the first-person shooter game that is one of our Hottest Products of 2007.
The numbers demonstrate just how this game annihilated its competitors. 4.2 million units were in stores on the day the third iteration of this game was unveiled September 25. In the U.S. alone, Halo 3 grossed $170 million its first day, and $300 million in the first week. More than a million players competed live in its first day of release, via Xbox Live.
The game is set in an involving future in which the human race wars with alien invaders, the Covenant. The compelling story line, outstanding graphics, weaponry and variety of action combine to provide the most popular video game entertainment in the field's history.
It also has proved a huge advantage for Microsoft's Xbox system, the only system that runs Halo 3. With Nintendo taking another approach (also successful, but very different), the Xbox has managed to wound its only real competitor, Sony (NYSE: SNE)'s PlayStation. By following Halo 3's viewpoint character, Master Chief, in a full frontal assault on the gaming system industry, Microsoft has won the skirmish, if not the war.
If you've had some experience with this product, let us know about it. Or if you know of something else that you think is one of the Hottest Products of 2007, feel free to tell us about that as well.

You got the plot all wrong. It is partly about humanity at war. But it is about mysterious ring shaped objects throught space, and each one is capable of destroying all life. The Covenants religon was worshiping the creators of the rings, and their goal is to activiate them. On the first Halo The protagonist (Master Chief) destroys one after the HUmans crashland on it while chased by the Covenant. In Halo 2, one of the prophets religious leaders land on earth (By accident) and a battle ensues. The leader (Prophet of Regret) escapes the city but ends up at another Halo. A human cruiser follows. The elite side starts off with the fleet commander that commanded the elite fleet on the first Halo by being tortured and stripped of his rank to wear the ancient armour of the Arbiter. I'm not going to mention other characters such as the flood, (Which the Halo's were meant to destroy) , 343 guility spark ( monitor of the Halo's or cortana. Halo 3 was a shitty game
Now i'm not saying it was horrid, but what it is, is mundane, run of the mill, boiler plate. Games have done it better and have been made (I.E. Half life series) Its amazing how microsoft can gather such a fan base with such an average game, but before all the fan boys come and try and kill me, I'll say this. The only reason why most of the fans have liked it, is because they've most likely never played any other games and are only console tards.

Lol. Having played Counter Strike extensively (Yes since you could download it along with Team Fortress). And many other Computer and console games Halo 3 adds up. Now if you are in the game for the single player don't buy it. It is too short and running through the game won't take long. Like Ween said the Half life series is better for that. What Halo 3 is and will always be about is the multiplayer. Best multi player I have played on any first person shooter in a long time.
