Maybe I am getting old, but when I hear the name Hannah Montana, I think stripper, not wildly popular Disney (NYSE: DIS) Channel show.
But as countless parents of countless girls will tell you, Hannah Montana isn't just a TV show, it's a lifestyle dedicated to the character played by the spunky 15-year-old Miley Cyrus. There are Hannah Montana DVDs, books, cake decorations, and toys. Oh, let's not forget a concert tour where tickets sell for several hundred bucks a pop. A woman who joined the official Miley Cyrus fan club in the hopes of getting tickets before they went on sale filed a lawsuit after she wasn't able to get them.
Before I watched my first Hannah Montana episode, I decided to check in with two experts: my nieces. "It's the best show on the Disney Channel," said Danielle, 11. "Miley Cyrus is a great actress," said Allison, 9. With those endorsements, I took my first steps into a world I knew little about.
It was a tough slog. As far as I can tell, Hannah -- also known as Miley Stewart -- tried to get her tomboy friend Lilly to act more like a girl in the hopes of getting a date for the big dance. Unfortunately, Lilly got stood up, so she took the hapless boy to "Teen Court" to get her revenge. Turns out he liked her before the makeover.
Oh yeah, Lilly seems to one of the few people who knows that Miley is actually pop superstar Hannah Montana. The rest of her friends must not be that smart. Then again, Lois Lane never caught on that Clark Kent and Superman never were in the same place at the same time, but I digress.
When I told my wife I watched the show, she asked me if I "had a death wish." She was right. With gems like, "Where did you come from, Hotsylvania?," the humor was clearly not aimed at this soon-to-be-40-year-old married guy from the suburbs. Makes Full House seem like Shakespeare, no?

I'm (gulp) mid-30's and I actually kind of like the show. I started watching because it was on when I would settle in to nurse my baby to sleep for the night and I caught what I think is the series' best episode with Brooke Shields guest starring as Miley's mom (and Star Trek Voyager's Tuvok as a doctor). I genuinely like a lot of the music, too. Your niece Allison will change her mind as she grows up though - Miley Cyrus is *not* a great actress (passable and cute, but not great).

I just read the news story and I'm amazed. I know Hannah is just one of those popular actress/singers and deserve the spotlight. However, her average concert tickets are suppose to go to average fans. Not be priced at thousands of dollars. Somehow, these tickets scalpers and brokers need to be eliminated as well. I went online and saw a variety of web sites selling tickets.

i think it must be because she has such good PR from the disney channel. hannah montana is EVERY WHERE!! my 10 year old little sister is obsessed with hannah montana. it could also be because on the show miley stewart is just a regular girl (much like most of the shows viewing audience). i must admit, i have watched the show before. i think that its cute for kids. much better than having them watch desperate housewives or 24 where they are submitted to violence and sex scenes.kids have enough pressures. they dont need any more from tv. the verdict good for kids!

I am 13 and I am pretty into Hannah Montana. Sure, some of the jokes are lame but that's just Disney Channel. To me though overall she seems to be a good role model. I really look up to her. When I buy like a teen magazine or something you don't see her all crazy like Paris or Lindsay. I think her dad brought her up well. I went to her concert just recently and I think she really loves what she does. The performance was great and she can for sure put on a show!!

My 7 year old loves the show and wants all Hannah Montana stuff for christmas. I have watched the show with her and think its cute and even a little funny somtimes. I love that my daughter likes this show instead of some of the others that are out there. It has good morals and enough age appropriate hummer for the younger crowd.

I'm a 63 yr old Grandfather. I have a 7 yr old Granddaughter and a 3 yr old Grandson. I spend quite a bit of time with them and we watch a lot of Hannah Montana. I love it. Disney is on most of the time when we are here in the house and that is the only show that I look forward to. I believe that young girls and even boys can associate with the antics and problems that Hannah and her firends go through. I feel it is idealistic for the real world and I hope that my Granddaughter models her behaviour after Miley Stewart. Her Father provides appropriate advice. Their relationship is so idealistic. It provides these tweens, a look at what could be a good model. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have a good action movie with suspense and drama. I never turn on Disney except when I am with the Grandchildren.

I am a soon-to-be 65-year old woman, married, 2 adult children. I first watched Hannah Montana because Billy Ray was on there and I have been a Billy Ray fan since the early 90's. I was surprised to find out that the more episodes I watched, the more I actually liked the show. It's amusing to see the various people who have become Billy Ray music fans from his appearances in Doc and Hannah Montana. His fan club members are his loyal music fans who have become fans of his acting as well. Hannah Montana has many adult viewers because her dad is on there! I think Billy Ray helped draw in the adult viewers!

I'm 17 and every once in a while i watch the shows, i guess its one of my guilty pleasures as well. my 9, 4, and 2 yr. old nieces love the show. and my 7 yr. old nephew thinks shes hot. lol boys, what can u do? anyways I'm glad my niece found a sensible young woman to look up to. i think billy did do a very good job at raising her. i just hope she doesn't turn into another train wreck like the rest. i think Miley is pretty talented for her age. i wouldn't mind taking my niece to her concert if it came through. even if i have to sit through the whole thing.

I am a 61 year old woman who became a Hannah fan because of my 14 yr. old granddaughter. We have been to two Hannah Montana Concerts together and I couldn't be happier that the tweens and teens have such a decent role model to emulate. I have 4 younger grandchildren and they are fans as well. Considering what some of the other young female "celebrities" are up to, I certainly "get" why Hannah Montana has become so popular!

I think that Miley Cyrus is a fabulous role model for my 9 yr old daughter. I took her to one of Hannah Montana's first concerts in Iowa at the beginning of her current tour and we paid only 65 for our tickets. We had no problem buying them on line the morning they were released. My sister and niece accompanied us and we moms enjoyed Miley/Hannah almost as much as our daughters! Billy Ray has done an incredible job rasing this child and I admire him much more now than I did as a so-so country singer in the 90s. I love their duet together also!

The phenomenon that is Hannah Montana is genius. There has been a void for the tween crowd since the Olson twins grew up and out. Billy Ray Cyrus is a genius, too. Hannah can sell teeney bopper stuff to the Disney crowd and Miley can sell country albums and stuff to the country and NASCAR crowd and both will buy each other's stuff. And it's not just music. Has anyone seen the sales of Hannah Montana WII video games? She already has CD's under both names. Pure Genius.
I predict Miley Cyrus will eventually be as big (and rich) as the Olson twins, but she will last longer because she has more talent. When her acting and teeney bopper career comes to an end, she will just be a huge country star like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift...

When I was a kid, I watched the Wonderful World of Disney with my parents close by my side on the couch. Now I am 55 and I watch the current Disney shows with my 9 and 12 year old daughters on the weekends. It is a time for us to share close together watching enjoyable shows like Hannah Montana. We started with Lizzie McGuire and graduated to Hannah. I enjoy watching the shows and spending the time with my daughters and seeing them laugh at the wholesome shows that are on. Thank God for Disney and the shows that they put on. If I were a kid, I would love them too.

Being a mother of a 14 year old...I think Hannah has become a poistive role model for my daughter. She has never liked Brittany from the word go, so that should say enough in itself. My daughter is a great judge of character- so judging by HER choices...watching Disney channel istead of MTV, I will take any day!

I have seen the show only a couple of times and aprreciate its wholesome theme. Miley Cyrus is lively and a good performer, but what I really enjoyed was the comedic timing and laid back attitude of her dad, Billy Ray. Miley's mom and dad were with her on the Oprah Show and truly seemed like the loving disciplined family. Way to go Disney and Cyrus Family. Yes! something DOES need to be done about the brokers. Tickets for the Charlotte concert were sold out in eight minutes. Many little girls were disappointed. I could never have bought a tickey for my child.

I'm 17 and I love this show. Yeah its corny, but what Disney show isn't? Its funny because a lot of high schoolers still watch the Disney channel even though its not geared toward their age group. I think Disney needs to keep adding some older material so that when their audience grows up they won't be watching trash on MTV, but still watching wholesome girls like Miley Cyrus on Disney. One thing I really like about Miley is that she is really humble, her parents keep her in check, and she lives as normal of a life as she can.

I too am a 60 year old Granny who watches a lot of Disney. My 9 year old granddaughter really enjoys this show and I do too. Good clean t.v. with realistic storylines and good morals thrown in.
I really hate that the concert ticket fiasco has kept so many children from being a part of the Hannah concert excitement.
