Every time May rolls around, if I'm expecting a tax return, I start to wonder: What if the IRS got my address wrong? What if this is the time my mailman drops the letter in the gutter by accident? What if my check gets lost?Evidently, my paranoia isn't all just imagination; every year, tens of thousands of refund checks are returned to the IRS as undeliverable. Could one of them -- or several -- be yours? The IRS is looking for 115,478 taxpayers whose refund checks were returned to them by the postal service. The checks aren't tiny, either -- they total $110 million and average just under $1,000. Some taxpayers have several checks sitting in the IRS bank account, just waiting for the government to get updated address information from you.
Update your address and check on your refund status at this IRS page; or download form 8822 to ensure the IRS has your most recent digits.

I love the idea of working my ass off just to pay the interest that's left from the production of the "made out of thin air" dollar that these loons back with nothing but pure faith.

Yeah, that's one thing the U.S. dollar and Christianity have in common: they are both backed by pure faith

A word of warning though - If you get an e-mail from "the IRS" DO NOT open it even though it looks official. It is a scam!!!
I got one a few weeks ago and called my local IRS office. They told me that if they try to contact you it will be by snail mail, NOT e-mail.
If you do get one of these, forward it to this address: phishing@irs.gov

Is this one of those tricks by local law enforcement to get you in the door thinking you won a T.V. in a raffle then BAM they throw the cuffs on you?

The LESS contact I have with the IRS, the better I like it. I'm not about to go contacting the IRS for any reason, even if they owe me money. When I got my last divorce, my bitch wife called the IRS and told them I was a drug dealer hiding money. I ended up getting a ten (10) year audit!!! So much fun!!! If I never talk to the IRS again, that'll be fine with me.

Doctor Bob: If the I.R.S. thinks you're a drug dealer hiding money, then chances are that any refund you were due evaporated a long time ago- seized by the I.R.S. to help pay taxes on that drug money. If I were you, I would have called the I.R.S. and said 'of course my wife said I'm a drug dealer- I'm an M.D., I write legal prescriptions every day.'

Money can be dirty, but the good news is that it can always be laundered.

Be careful though, there is a scam send via email involving the IRS. Its and email not send by the IRS but someone trying to get your debit card info. I have received 3 of them in 2 weeks. I looks offical but its not. If you click on the link it asks for all kinds of info, including your debit card number so they can direct deposit your refund. But no matter what area you click on this site, it all brings you back to this same first screen. SO BEWARE.

If you get any more of these scam "IRS" e-mails, you should forward them to phishing@air.gov. That's what the woman at our local office said to do.

It is true that the US Dollar is backed by faith if you do not consider every asset the US Government owns (National Parks, Buildings, Gold at Ft. Knox, etc.) however, anyone that has a problem with this concept can send me all their cash and I will be happy to relieve them from their stress.

I'm just saying that any contact with the IRS is bound to have some penalty, trap or backlash. "Sure here's a couple bucks for you, by the way...you forgot to post $50 in income in 1994, I'll take that money back now...let's see, with interest and penalties...you now owe the IRS $46,986.00. Will you be paying by Check or Credit Card?"

Well, this explains why I have been getting bogus e-mails about the IRS owing me money. I don't open them, of course. Thanks for the heads up.

It will take an act of Congress to collect payment from the IRS. They have owed me $1000+ for six months with the promise of sending it within two weeks.

To determine if you are included in this list, go to the IRS website www.irs.gov, click on the link to "$100 million in refund checks," clink on the link to "where's my refund," and follow the instructions. Notice that the final link to provide your information is an HTTPS link, which is secure. This is also useful at any time to determine the status of your refund after you have filed a tax return. I agree with Kim above about using direct deposit. Contrary to some belief, the IRS does not dump a request for information like this or sending the refund into its "let's audit this one" pile. Good luck.
