Hottest Products of 2007: Nikon Coolpix takes photo convenience online

More

This post is part of our Hottest Products of 2007 feature. Also check out our other Hottest Products of 2007 posts and let us know which product you think is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Nikon CoolpixIn one pocket, perhaps you have your camera, which takes great, high-resolution shots. Maybe it was even one of 2005's hottest products.

In the other pocket is your cell phone. The photos it takes are low res, but you don't have to upload them to your computer before sharing them with friends.

The Nikon Coolpix S51c is one of our hottest products of 2007 because it captures the best of both worlds. As a camera, it offers 8.1 megapixel resolution, which will stand up to coffee-table sized prints, in an elegant case that fits neatly in your shirt pocket.

The cool part, though, is what the camera does after you take those sumptuous photos of your secret vacation spot. The Coolpix is Wi-Fi capable, which means that, in the presence of an open wireless internet connection, you can upload the contents to Nikon's My Picturetown picture hosting site, view them on your BlackBerry, e-mail them to friends or post them to your Flickr account. Owners also receive six free months of T-Mobile Hotspot access, which broadens the number of access points.

The S51c represents yet another piton on the climb to the perfect convergence device: telephone, camera, music player, video player, garage door opener, and electric razor. As such, we commemorate it as one of our faves of 2007.

If you've had some experience with this product, let us know about it. Or if you know of something else that you think is one of the Hottest Products of 2007, feel free to tell us about that as well.
