This post was part of the AOL Money & Finance Best & Worst of 2007 feature. The voting has now closed and readers have chosen Rosie O'Donnell's war of words with Donald Trump and others as the dumbest celebrity feud of the year. Be sure and let us know in the comments if you are pleased with this result.

Dumbest celebrity feuds Back in the day of the (fictional) Capulets and Montegues or the (real) Hatfields and McCoys, "feuds" were not something to be taken lightly. They separated men from boys and resulted in certain bloodshed. These days, tabloids will report on a new "celebrity feud" each week, as our nation's most rich and famous lash out at one another in the press or on live television.

Sometimes, there are justified reasons for unrest among pop culture's elite ... a cuckolding, perhaps, or a vicious custody battle (I blame Alec Baldwin's recent poor judgment on stress, but maybe he gets off lightly in my book because he's so brilliant on 30 Rock). At any rate, here's some of the most high-profile fights that took center stage in 2007.

The American public twice served as judge and jury for Rosie O'Donnell this year. Late last year, the comedienne found herself in a war of words with "The Donald" (Trump), after O'Donnell criticized the billionaire's handling of a scandal involving the Miss USA Pageant, of which Trump holds the rights. Name-calling and mudslinging ensued, and O'Donnell colleague Barbara Walters caught some shrapnel. Months later, on the May 23 episode of The View -- on which the liberally minded Rosie served as one of four co-hosts -- she got into a heated (split-screen!) debate with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the "conservative" member of the hosting panel. Tempers flared and Rosie ultimately walked out on her contract with the program, which was set to expire a few months later anyway. Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd have since picked up hosting duties.

The dissolution of Britney Spears' marriage to former backup dancer Kevin Federline didn't come as a great shock to anyone. What was surprising were the events that followed. The former pop princess was given a brief window to come back into the public's good graces after a perceived fall from grace into a hasty marriage and the quick birth of two boys. But instead of using her new-found single status for self-evaluation and bonding with her children, she spiraled into self-destructive behavior including, but not limited to, erratic driving, incomplete rehab stays, dubious parenting, and head shaving. In October, the unthinkable happened, as she lost custody of sons Sean and Jayden to Federline. At press time, the custody battle continues to drag on, with much of America, quite oddly, siding with the once-reviled Federline. Meanwhile, Britney somehow managed to score a number-one album, Blackout (her first studio release in four years), but she's yet been unable to prove her fitness as a mother.

Ten years ago, a major feud in the rap-music business had tragic consequences. Both Tupac Shakur and the Notoriuos B.I.G. were struck down at the heights of their careers, mere months apart. A decade later, both murders remain unsolved. The East Coast/West Coast rivalry was furious, but had petered out by the turn of the millennium. In 2007, two of America's most popular hip-hop artists, New York's 50 Cent and Chicago's Kanye West, just so happened to have albums set to "drop" on the same day -- September 11. 50 Cent reportedly quipped that if his album, Curtis, undersold West's Graduation, he (50) would retire from the music business entirely. The threat created buzz, but was ultimately empty, as 50 Cent refuted the claim to Howard Stern and MTV News (good thing, since Kanye won). Whatever the intention, the similarly timed release proved successful for both artists ... Curtis sold 691,000 copies in its first week; Graduation sold 957,000. It was the first time since 1991 that two albums have sold more than 600,000 copies in one week ... amazing, given the anemic record industry.

And finally, my favorite feud of all ... which might not even be "real." Lauren Conrad, the young, beautiful, rich, and famous-for-being-famous star of MTV's "reality" show The Hills had quite a fight with her BFF (that's "best friend forever") and roommate, Heidi Montag, last year. In a nutshell, Lauren was never fond of Heidi's boyfriend Spencer Pratt, who tended to manipulate situations, cheat on his girlfriend while cameras were watching, and generally act as loathsome as humanly possible. It didn't help matters that Pratt also (allegedly!) spread a (false?) rumor about a videotape showing Lauren in an unflattering light. Montag has moved out and accepted Pratt's proposal. Both still appear on The Hills, but rarely share scenes ... in fact, it's like a spin-off is happening within the parent show, all in 30 tidy minutes. Sources say that Lauren and Heidi have made up off-camera but continue to "feud" for production value's sake. Maybe we'll never know ... but should we even care? I think I sort of do.

What feud are you tired of hearing about?
