Its supply and demand.. This comparison is stupid.. Milk cost more than fuel also.. though we don’t run through 5+ gal a day now do we? I have cut out nearly all my "leisure" usage and still have to spend 120.00 a week. That 6240.00 a year. And that’s just my car alone. Fuel seems to be the only thing in the world not affected by true supply and demand. It really is just ridiculous and there is nothing we can do about it..

Starbucks coffee is so ridiculously overpriced... and I think it tastes burnt! I would rather put the $5-$6 I save each day that I save buy making my own coffee into a shopping fund and buy myself some great items at Target!

the problem here is .... you dont need a barrel of coke zero to get to work, or stay warm. if coke doubled thier prices, and recorded the biggest quarterly profit in history, we could stop buying thier product. We actually NEED exxons product, so we have to buy it. They can charge whatever they want for a barrel of oil, and this administration will let them....

Listen to the tone of hatred and contempt in the other comments. It's not hard to see they come from the left of center. Tom writes a sensible, balanced view of oil prices in comparision to other "important" fluids, and people freak out. What people really hate is hearing common sense responses to the hyperbole they're constantly fed by the mainstream media. Tom's absolutely right: it may hurt a little bit, but C-note oil is nothing compared to the myriad benefits oil gives us in our daily lives (you could also mention the millions of everyday articles made out of plastics -- like about every item used in a hospital, for example -- that are made from petroleum). But libs don't want to hear that. They want all the perks and conveniences that go along with having an oil-based economy and lifestyle, but they want to bitch about the cost. Rebeling without reason, and without thought -- just like children.

Tom Perhaps you didn't realize that a 42 gal barrel of oil that is costing us $100 is in its crude form and is basically worthless without being refined??
Lets see I happen to use diesel @ $3.559 a gal in CT. 42 gallons of that is now worth $149.49 When was the last time you you paid for your own fuel????? Have another soda Tom I think your "Splenda" buzz is wearing off!!!!! JP

I dont see how A compairison of deer urine is relevent since i but it once or twice a year but I buy gas every day. Coffee for SB well maybe once a month, I buy gas everyday. so what is the point here? This is the only industry that I know of that can contuiually Breack record profits and complain about there barrell Price is not high enough. if Our Governmet put as much energy and time into this as do to bullhockey Items we might not have this issue
