When changes happen at eBay, Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY), it's usually sellers who become angry at, well, anything. From fee changes to feedback changes to anything that affects their business, eBay sellers can be a finicky lot. And, that discontent doesn't stew -- that "vocal majority" definitely lets those opinions be heard.Again, many eBay sellers are becoming hostile in the wake of recent selling fee changes implemented just as new CEO John Donahoe steps into his role. Donahoe surprised sellers when he cut some seller fees, but then raised others. While Donahoe argued that the deletion of "flat fees" for sold items with a "minimal fee" will lower the risk to eBay sellers, many disputed this argument, and some even threatened to "strike." Seeing as though eBay sellers aren't employees, that made me laugh a little. "Taking a week off" would be more appropriate, but you get the picture.
But, if some angry sellers do "strike" for a week, eBay's coffers will notice the revenue difference. This is a prime opportunity for a company like Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) to really punch up its auction business and really begin to recruit former eBay sellers to an alternative auction platform in the wake of so many disappointments in the last 18 months. That, or just go ahead and buy eBay already.

I agree with Mary... there are plenty of alternatives around the net to sell and buy. Sites like http://www.ClassifiedAds.com a free classifieds site that lets you sell your stuff for NO FEES.
A good marketer should be using alternatives like this to begin with to increase their ROI.
Lead the change... Change the lead.

Add me to the list of (bronze)power sellers moving their store listings to Amazon. When I joined ebay in 1999, they were very affordable and yet also very pofitable . Now they're just greedy. Unlike Amazon that started with private investors taking hugh risks and receive the fruits of their labor and dollars, Ebay wouldn't have existed at all without its sellers. We were ebay's investors, and now they treat us like garbage. Those bastards can go to hell - I am done with them.

As an original member of Ebay I voted with my feet already. I'm a prime Ebay buyer who was also a power seller. I left Ebay AND PayPal, and took my tiny little sales to other venues and started my own website. I think this is IT for Ebay. Either Amazon will buy Ebay and fix it, or Ebay will now turn its recently purchased Craigslist.org into the paid flea market venue that Ebay most despises.
It's ok Mr. Ebay. Now that you've divorced Mrs. Ebay I'll just BUY from anywhere else except Ebay and Craigslist. Thrift stores, community websites, and specialty websites. It SNOT a problem!

Ditto for Helen - she couldn't have said it any better! I can't believe all the comments: Question - How many sellers think they're in business because of their ability to be soooo business savvy? Let's face it 99% of sellers wouldn't exist if Ebay didn't exist. What are you going to do sell in the classifieds, tell all the local readers to make you an offer?!!! Look the best thing to happen is for some company like Google or Amazon to offer a viable alternative - these little sites like Ecrater are a joke - NOBODY USES THEM!!!! Well I take that back I've actually used two, Ecrater and Buy.com - but man was it scary. I had no idea what my recourses would be if it didn't work. Whereas Ebay has too many moats - protecting the buyers! The Auction style of buying is something people are familiar and are ingrained to associate with EBAY - other online stores may do ok for fixed priced items - but you wanna go auction style with any decent exposuer - For now it's EBay! I'm not trying to dis any of your concerns - I'm just saying - Nobody likes higher fees - but that's why most sellers charge ridiculous shipping and handling charges (Shipping charges over $15 for one item of clothing?!!!! No wonder buyers are sick of sellers overpriced S&H charges. Charge what it costs people - I can't find any reason to charge more than $10 on non-heavy items.) So, before you say - I quit - and try to take others with you, give a real viable alternative or STFU. This forum has become a cesspool for talking about everybody's favorite obscure Ebay alternative that no buyers will go to! They all look like some kind of MLM site. So bottom line: All you buyers that have your panties in a wad over the fee increases, go out - start your own web site - and let's see how you do? Oh what, you don't want to spend the fees and advertising - oh how will you take credit cards - through a merchant account of your own? Geat - that won't be , not - actually It'll make Paypal look like the red cross! No I think there needs to be some competition - Amazon or Google, perhaps microsft/yahoo - somone big should step up to compete with this giant - that's the best way to get things moving. Instead of crying and being little bit$ches about it - petition on of those companies to do something to earn your business. As a matter of fact - the best way to save paypal agony and fees is Google Checkout - I'm using it now vs paypal and I love it! Saves me a ton!
Oh and PS - all the moaning about the sellers not being able to leave retaliatory feedback to buyers, well where do you get off? Ebay finally wised up and realized that the buyers are the customers - and last I checked this was a "customer is always right" country in the USA. As a buyer I'm sick of getting hosed buy sellers and then when I go to leave negative feedback about them - they do the same, yet they got my money - and I got their incorrectly described product way late at ridiculous shipping charges. Just so you know anyone that charges more than $1 or $2 cost of shipping gets at least a neutral feedback. what a bunch of scammers on Ebay - hopefully this will be good riddance for those jokers! Finally - Ebay is making it more safe and attractive to buyers! I will likely increase my online shopping here and I will refuse to shop at any less established online stores that don't offer the buyers the same advantage that Ebay does. When you think about it Ebay is really smart!!! I mean it will be harder and harder for other stores to live up to Ebay's rep when it comes to protecting buyers with these new methods. Good luck to you that tries to use such unknown sites - I know myself and millions of others won't step foot in such places.

As An eBay Buyer..I Really Hate to see that eBay.com is ruining the lively hood of so many Honest and Disabled and Veteran Sellers!!!!... Many Of The Smaller Sellers Who Helped Build eBay Have No Other Way To Make A Living!!....I Think Sellers Should Take Control!...And, A Strike May Be Most Definitely In Order!!!!!...If most of the Sellers abandoned their listings for a Week or MORE!! and Buyers "Don't Bid Or Browse"..It May bring eBay Management to their Senses!!...My Favorite Business Management Professor at GA. TECH always said "If It Ain't Broke...Don't Try to Fix It" ...In My Humble Opinion....The Proposed Feedback Change and the 21 Day Paypal.com Holding Period might be "Unconstitutional" & "Illegal"...."One Sided Feedback" may be a violation of the "Equal Protection Clauses" in the the various State and the Federal Constitutions!!.....Additionally....Both The New "Unequal Feedback Policy" and the "21 Day Holding Period" may require that eBay act as a "Law Enforcement Agency" and a "Court Of Law " in order to settle contractual disputes between Buyers and Sellers!!..Both Of These Actions May Be Extremely Illegal!!.... We Need To Help Ebay Save Itself!!....If One Strike doesn't work, Sellers may need to do it Again and Again--->Until it Does Work!! .... Hopefully!!, Persistent Sellers Will Convince eBay Management to Withdraw these proposed changes and return to Business As Normal Before The Law Enforcement Agencies and The Federal/State Courts Bring Them DOWN!! I have heard that One Of The Best Civil Trial Lawyers in Atlanta may be just waiting until the proposed changes take place before filing a multi billion dollar Class Action Lawsuit (On Behalf Of "ALL" SELLERS) against eBay, Paypal and their new cohort General Motors for Violation of the "Equal Protection and Numerous Other Clauses" Of The US Constitution!....Additionally....He may be requesting that US Magistrates and the Attorney General issue Felony Criminal Warrants requesting immediate arrest of all eBay Management and all employees involved in making feedback decisions(in which they act as a Law Enforcement Agency...AND... A Court Of Law!!) I Am Afraid That "Good Attorneys" and an almost Trillion Dollor "Class Action Suit" may Bankrupt eBay, Paypal and General Motors!! It will be interesting to see how much it will cost eBay, Paypal and Genral Motors to reimburse all of the Sellers that are being be forced to leave eBay and give up their only source of income because of these New Feedback and Paypal Rules!!!! .....Maybe Trillions!! ....My Professor Also Said..."Nothing Is "Forever"...Except Death And Taxes!!....STRIKE VICTOROUSLY!!

Ebay is good but fees are so high.. Came across an ebay alternative http://www.elfingo.com. They charge only 15 cents per listing and also heard that they charge no commissions or final listing fees. You can try if it works well..
