Here's an item that's so laced with irony it defies comment -- I can't come up with a metaphor that does it justice. It's sort of like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but it's much, much, much more pathetic.President Bush's 2009 budget is expected to lead to a deficit of more than $400 billion. But not to worry, our fearless leader has a plan to cut back on spending.
According (subscription required) to the Wall Street Journal, "In years past, the White House's Office of Management and Budget distributed about 3,000 copies of the budget free to media outlets, congressional offices and elsewhere in the capital. This year, those folks must buy a printed copy or access one free online."
Members of Congress can get a copy for $67.50. Ordinary taxpayers hoping to get the details on how their elected officials plan to waste their money and then some will have to pay $213 -- or read it online.
The plan will save taxpayers an estimated $1 million over 5 years.
So $400 billion divided by $200,000... The President has found a way to shave off 1/2,000,000th of the projected deficit for 2009 that will be passed on to future generations.
Keep up the good work!

Just a side note: If you took $3.1 trillion in one dollar bills and laid them end to end they would reach to the Sun, back to the Earth, and then back to the Sun.
Ok, i know you couldn't really do this because the Sun's heat would burn up the money, but no faster than our Government burns it.

I'm sick of everyone blaming Bush about the state we are in, specifically 911. It was Clinton's fault! While he was in office & the media was so focused on his infidelities, Monica Lewinski, the blue dress & the CIGAR! Everyday this was huge media coverage, like Britney Spears. We were the laughing stock of the world then. While all the focus was on all this soap opera, terrorists were plotting all that time cause it wasn't planned overnight. It unfortunately came to be, upon Bush's command. All we need now, Hillary in office and Bill back in his old sexual stomping grounds in the White House! He should have been taking care of business, the business of running the country he was elected for, NOT MONKEY BUSINESS!!

For our country to repair what Bush and his criminals have done we have to have a war crimes tribunal. Impeach them and try them.

I swear reading this blog was like reading an article from a high school newspaper. The mentality behind your writing is just like the metaphor you use, like "rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic"; absolutely, without a doubt, a worthless waste of time.

To say, "Every little bit helps" is an insult to every intelligent person reading this. The savings were wasted putting this article on the Internet. Why not mention the money cut from the budget from Education? It was a real cost saving, at the expense of our children

It is so easy to go on a rant about anyone doing anything, what I'd like to know is why don/t people wake up to the fact that our elected officials do not do anything that is good for its people of country. The opposition, who ever fails to realize that they should leave the BS aside and acutually do something positive regardless of who thought of it first. That in a nut shell is a good start, get in touch with the real world you aimless,self-serving politicians...

Wow! From a man who only knows war and recession it is not that bad of an idea. Talk about an apple not falling far from the tree. I also have an idea they could print all WhiteHouse communication on toilet paper. Then atleast there would be some reason for it to get us into **&$#@. What if we stop spending on a useless war and stop using China as the countrys personal payday loan source.

Bush made a small cut in deficits with his paperless budget, it is a minor cut for sure and Bush is far from the best of Presidents and has made many bad decisions including an overgrown budget but mark my words, wait till a democrat gets in with their tax and spend policies. goodbye tax incentives. I can't believe the Republicans would would take McCain over Romney what jerks. If we have a democrat I sure hope it isn't Hillary and her co-president husband slick Willy. God help us all.

I can not believe some of the stupid, and ignorant responses I've read posted here. I agree with some of you folks regarding the fact that every little bit helps, and after all, it is a start. However, as some of the previous posters have stated, this is too little, too late. And why on earth are some of you bringing up Bill Clinton in response to an article like this? This post deals with the national budget, something that Mr. Clinton had in awesome shape when Mr. Bush took control. He is the last person you need to be bringing up. Republicans always want to blame that man for the problems of today even though he's been out of office for eight years, which is plenty of time for Bush to correct all of these phantom problems you speak of. Bill was a horrible husband, and he has some serious moral issues. However, he was a damn good president. George Bush was the CEO of a company he ran in the ground before he became the leader of our country. If he can't run a business, why in the hell did you folks think he could financially run the country??? Wake up!!!!!

Remember how glorious the Clinton years were?
We had PEACE.
We were respected in the world.
The world respected the President (and did not call him the Village Idiot).
Our economy was the strongest one in generations.
People paid their mortgages, and had some money left over.
A vote for a Republican is like sending your kid's piggy bank straight to Bush's oil buddies in Dubai.
