Before the bell: Stocks ready to rise after holiday weekend

Zac Bissonnette posted Monday on a story from the New York Times telling how Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s iPhones, that are made in China, somehow make their way back there.
Meanwhile, MacRumors.com reports that Apple filed a patent that could suggest the company is working on an advanced multitouch for Mac OS X. After the iPhone and the MacBook Air, MacRumors thinks it only the obvious next step for Apple "to expand this basic multitouch functionality to the remainder of their notebook product line."

Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) said Tuesday that Lion Air placed an order valued at more than $4.4 billion at current list prices for 56 737s. The company also obtained purchase rights for 50 additional 737 aircraft.


Research In Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ: RIMM) is suing Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) over several patents used for wireless devices such as RIM's BlackBerry e-mail devices and Motorola's Razr smart phones. RIM claims that Motorola is violating nine RIM patents among other things and its filing came one day after Motorola filed a suit against RIM for violating some of Motorola's patents.

Bill Gates said in an interview Monday that Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) is not privately haggling with Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) over the recent $31 a share unsolicited buyout offer Microsoft put for Yahoo.
Meanwhile, TechCrunch reports through their own sources that Microsoft is set to launch new desktop software called WorldWide Telescope on February 27 at the TED Conference in Monterey, California where "Users will be able to pan around the nighttime sky and zoom as far in to any one area as the data will allow."

On Monday, an analyst said that Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) is struggling to replace reserves and may have to boost capital spending substantially.
