Last week I wrote a couple pieces on the current seller strike over at e-commerce giant eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY). The strike was supposed to last until today, but now it has been extended another week. Initial data is showing that the current eBay strike has lowered the items listed for sale on the site by an impressive 13%, so you can be sure that eBay is paying attention. As most of you are already aware, the current strike is the result of frustrations by eBay users over a couple new changes that the site has introduced. While the site lowered its initial listing fees for items, it raised its completion fees. This has been seen by power sellers as a direct attack on the more successful eBay sellers. In addition, eBay has decided to keep sellers from leaving negative feedback on buyers, a move that has infuriated sellers who claim that feedback is their best defense in avoiding dead-beat bidders. The final straw came in the decision to hold certain PayPal payments for up to 21 days.
The strike, which started last week, has had a couple of impacts on the e-commerce world. One result that I examined last week, was the increase in traffic and users to some smaller e-commerce sites that historically have had a hard time breaking into some of eBay coveted traffic. Now we are starting to see just how hard the strike has been hitting eBay itself. According to reports, the site has seen a 13% drop in its auction listings.
Data that has been compiled by medved.net and dealscart.com indicate that there are now "only" 13 million items available on the site. eBay users have started to smell the blood in the water apparently and have decided to extend the current strike in hopes eBay will start to give in to some of their demands. After what they considered to be an effective first week, sellers are now extending the strike by one more week, stretching it out until March 3.
We had some great reader feedback on our posts last week over the current strike, and it seems like most of our BloggingStocks readers agree that the current changes eBay is imposing are unfair. Several of our readers are avid eBay users, and let us know that they had indeed joined in the sellers strike and were looking for new alternatives for their online auction business. I'm curious to hear if these eBay users will continue to boycott the site for another week, or slowly return to business as usual on the site. Let us know your intentions, and what alternatives to eBay you have found (if any).

I have been a small seller since 2004. I have used Ebay to sell my Realistic babies and my other accessories. As soon as the new fees, feedback, and overall changes came out, no way. I now sell my creations on http://www.artsndolls.com/index.php a brand new Auction site for doll collectors and doll artist. In one month we have grown to over 900 registered users.. Come check us out. You won't be sorry you came to look... I for one am still BOYCOTTING EBAY....

I have opted to leave eBay permanently.
I sell my art related items as well as other collector pieces but since this new CEO and his deluded staff of drones decided to make such drastic changes (and not for the better for any seller out here-be it new, intermediate or power sellers) that affect the sellers in such a negative way - I have given up on the site completely.
I have found 3 auction sites that prove to have the same ease and nearly the same viewing capability that ebay had in my category of items.
I belong to chat/discussion boards that are trying to work together to have a common site where we will find our community of collectors without being scattered - it will be a rough few weeks or month in the beginning but I am sure with the moderators participation - we will all end up aware of and on the same site for whatever we need in our specialized area of collecting.
I have one last thing to add to ebay (aka known as FeeBay, aka as GreedBay)... The public does not sit back and let 'you' happen to them any longer. You decisions were idiotic and poorly thought out and executed. From my knowledge - a newly appointed CEO never made major decisions or publicized them until well after 60 days minimum. Your over zealousness and arrogance has put you into this position.
You have noone to blame for this mass exodus but yourselves.
Good luck, you're going to need it.

As an eBayer seller since the spring of 1998 I've reached my limit of tolerance with their using and abusing the sellers! I've also been a buyer so they've gotten plenty of mileage and $$$'s out of me.
I've found two great places to buy and sell. http://www.ArtsNDolls.com and http://www.auctiononline.com. I will run an item now and then on eBay after the strike is over, to guide my buyers to ArtNDolls.com and auctiononline.
The "noise" and "flea market junk" has moved to other venues, Mr Donahue. Thank You for being such a greedy a**hole! You've changed my life to the better along with allot of deserving sellers!

Ebay needs to listen to the people who pay their fees. Do the buyers pay Ebay to buy something? I have been selling on Ebay for a year. Yes, I am a small seller, one of the sellers they want to get rid of.
Well, I have moved on.
http://www.Etsy.com and http://www.artsndolls.com.
Much better atmosphere with little or no fees!
No longer a slave to Ebay!!!

I feel I never been a "slave to eBay", as some might phrase it. I "use" eBay in the same fashion I feel it uses me, sort of like a pimp and his girl. I know my place in it, I spend what I feel it's fair considering they have the fame and traffic, still bigger than other sites (I predict that will not last forever).
eBay is now a very small chunk of my business; that was dictated more by eBay's own questionable moves over the years than my own intentions; with each change they make for the worst, they keep losing traffic, so it's surely not as it used to be, and it's not just sellers they have lost, it's buyers too. Traffic is SO bad compared to the past - I know they know this because they keep their stats. I think eBay's latest is a desperate move; I think they've been desperate for a while.
eBay is its worst enemy. I know how that feels. But it's easier for me to change myself upon having a significant insight than for an entity w/o a brain.

As An eBayer Of Many Years!!..I Really Hate to see that eBay.com is ruining the lively hood of so many Honest and Disabled and Veteran Sellers!!!!... Many Of The Smaller Sellers Who Helped Build eBay Have No Other Way To Make A Living!!....I Think Sellers Are Right To Take Control!...And,This Strike Is Most Definitely In Order!!!!!...If most of the Sellers abandoned their listings for a Week or MORE!! and Buyers "Don't Bid Or Browse"..It May bring eBay Management to their Senses!!...My Favorite Business Management Professor at GA. TECH always said "If It Ain't Broke...Don't Try to Fix It" ...In My Humble Opinion....The Proposed Feedback Change and the 21 Day Paypal.com Holding Period may be "Unconstitutional" & "Very Illegal"...."One Sided Feedback" may be a violation of the "Equal Protection Clauses" in the the various State and the Federal Constitutions!!.....Additionally....Both The New "Unequal Feedback Policy" and the "21 Day Holding Period" may require that eBay act as a "Law Enforcement Agency" and a "Court Of Law " in order to settle contractual disputes between Buyers and Sellers!!..Both Of These Actions May Be Extremely Illegal!!.... We Need To Help Ebay Save Itself!!....If One Strike doesn't work, Sellers may need to do it Again and Again--->Until it Does Work!! .... Hopefully!!, Persistent Sellers Will Convince eBay Management to Withdraw these proposed changes and return to Business As Normal Before The Law Enforcement Agencies and The Federal/State Courts Bring Them DOWN!! I have heard that One Of The Best Civil Trial Lawyers in Atlanta imay be waiting until the proposed changes take place before filing a multi billion dollar Class Action Lawsuit (On Behalf Of "ALL" SELLERS) against eBay, Paypal and their new cohort General Motors for Violation of the "Equal Protection and Numerous Other Clauses" Of The US Constitution!....Additionally....He may be requesting that US Magistrates and the Attorney General issue Felony Criminal Warrants requesting immediate arrest of all eBay Management and all employees involved in making feedback decisions(in which they act as a Law Enforcement Agency...AND... A Court Of Law!!) I Am Afraid That "Good Attorneys" and the almost Trillion Dollor "Class Action Suit" may Bankrupt eBay, Paypal and General Motors!! It will be Interesting to see how much it may cost eBay, Paypal and Genral Motors to reimburse all of the Sellers that are being be forced to leave eBay and give up their only source of income because of these New Feedback and Paypal Rules!!!! .....Probably Trillions!! ....My Professor Also Said..."Nothing Is "Forever"...Except Death And Taxes!!

I have left eBay for good. There is no sense in going back after this boycott and having to deal with the new policies on feedback - DSR's - PayPal holding money - being dropped in searches or limited in listing. The feedback changes and DSR's alone will destroy many sellers ratings through no fault of their own.
Buyers complain about shipping costs and shipping time even if it is shipped the same or next day and charged at exact cost. Sellers have no control over the cost of shipping or the time it takes to arrive once it has been shipped - especially if it is being shipped Internationally and has to clear customs.
eBay has taken away the equal footing for sellers and why would I as a seller fight on an uneven playing field while eBay cuts profits to nothing with fee increases that they try to spin as fee decreases. eBay will find out they are not the only venue out there now as more sellers (who are also buyers) jump the sinking ship.

HERE IS A USEFUL TOOL TO LET EBAY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING: GO INTO EBAYS' "LIVE HELP" LINK AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FEELING. FLOOD THEIR HELP LINE WITH RESPONSES. MAKE THEM WORK FOR THAT MONEY! PLEASE SPREAD THIS TO ALL BLOG SITES AND EBAY CUSTOMERS AND SELLERS. I'M SURE THEY WANT TO HEAR NOISE!! BE HEARD. TELL THEM WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THEIR GREEDY ASSES!

I have closed up shop as well. It is clear that ebay does not want small time sellers on board and it will be a game of how they can screw with the bigger sellers with the DSR and new feedback policy. Now is the time for a Revolution, like wagglepop.com. Come on over and see for yourself.

Ebay is acting like a communist government would. They are completely out of line and are showing no mercy towards the sellers who have helped make ebay as large as it has become. I myself am a powerseller and have only been selling on ebay for about 5 years now but I will never sell or buy anything there again. They have no respect for people's livelihoods and have proven to all the sellers that they can not be trusted. The final blow for me was the announcement that we must list our digital items in the ebay classified section. They gave absolutely no notice and crushed thousands of legitimate seller's lives in a single day. They are an absolute disgrace of a company and a horrible example of how a company of their size should be behaving.
