If nothing else... eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY) users are a feisty bunch. After just coming off a multi-week sellers strike, they are already planning their next revolt, tentatively set to launch May 1.The most recent strike was orchestrated in reaction to recent changes made on the site and lasted from the week of Feb. 18 through last night. While eBay is steadfast that the recent site boycott had no effect on its business, not everyone is buying that, and are anticipating hitting the site again come May.
Some statistics have shown that eBay witnessed a 13% drop in its online listings, but eBay denies any impact. The site claims that the statistics out there are not taking into account a 20-cent listings promotion that it had launched just prior to the boycott that temporarily inflated its auction listings.
We have looked a lot at the eBay boycott over the past couple of weeks, and we have repeatedly pointed to a couple key factors that are infuriating eBay users. These include increased final listing fees, removal of seller feedback, and changes that could result in some PayPal payments being held up to 21 days.
While all of the above were enough to ruffle some feathers, I have to believe that the ultimate "slap in the face" to sellers was the removal of the option for sellers to leave negative feedback on the site. Rate increases are nothing new to the site, which had to raise its rates as recently as 2005 and 2006. While sellers did not like seeing the rate hike, they ultimately accepted it as a cost of business. The feedback system however, seems to be a little too much for some to bear.
While it is still debatable what effect the most recent boycott had, organizers of this next boycott are hoping to accomplish bigger and better results from their actions. By taking around six weeks to get mobilized they anticipate a greater effect, and they are going so far as setting up "state leaders" and looking to form a better organized approach to this upcoming boycott.
So far, the sellers that are joining up have claimed to be 1,000 strong and looking to attract a much broader base of users.
For all you eBay users out there... did you participate in your the most recent boycott? Will you join the next sellers strike? As for the impact on the site, do you feel the strike had any impact what-so-ever on eBay? And one final topic of interest... which change made the site upsets you the most? Fee increase, feedback change, or PayPal change? Let us hear from you!

Everyone knows that eBay may be the World's
Largest Fence of Stolen and Forged Merchandise!!.
Operating as a
Purveyor of Stolen Goods
Usually results in a Quick Arrest!!
I think the recent decision to make
the eBay Feedback System "One-Sided" may be Their Downfall.
In order for eBay employees to mediate
the up-coming new Feedback Complaints...
They will have to act as a "Law Enforcement Agency",
"Court Of Law", "Judge" and "Jury"....Are These Acts are Illegal??..
I Think It's time for the FBI and
The US Attorney General to Begin An Investigation!!
Why do eBay Employees operate under False Names
unless They know that the decisions they are making may be against the law??...
eBay may be in deep trouble as the legitimate brick and mortar
Major Retailers like Sears, Target, and Walmart demand that eBay
be held accountable for selling merchandise that has been stolen from Their Stores!!
One Side Feedback May Test The
Laws Of Equity and Equal Protection!!!
Crooked Buyers Worldwide will have a Field Day...
While Sellers continue to Boycott, Strike and Go Elsewhere!!
Unless the one sided
feedback decision is reversed
(or feedback is totally removed) immediately the
decline and fall of eBay may only take a Short Time!!
In My mind eBay stock may soon be about Worthless!!

As E-bay sellers for the last 5 years, we feel some loyality to the system. We did not participate in the boycott. But we did establish ourselves as loyal opposition and lobied E-bay about these extremely nasty changes for the seller. They would not even give us the courtesy of a reply. It appears that they may have also BLACK-BALLED us as our sales have dropped off and lookers have dried up. Have other sellers had this "experience" during his time? It would be interesting to see if E-bay was negatively proactive to its vocal loyal sellers.

I have been an eBay'er for 10 Years!.... I would recommend that You find another Venue to Sell Your Goods...What You are seeing is the Beginning of the "Decline and Fall" of eBay...Recent eBay Management Decisions have ruined the eBay Forum...They Forgot to take into account that most Sellers...Are Also Buyers!...The Negative Impacts of the new One Sided Feeedback Rule and the 21 day Paypal Holding Period is Destroying the all of the "FUN" and the Momentum is Disappearing FAST....If Management doesn't Reverse these up-coming rules IMMEDIATELY...eBay will be DOOMED!!
You Probably need to stop wasting Your Time and "Money" listing on eBay and Try to Find another place to Sell while ebay Implodes!!... If You Own any eBay Stock..Sell It Now!!... Before It's TOO LATE!!!

I was there Feb 29th watching all the fake listings and taking tons of screenshots of sdc_prod sellers (which is shopping dot com.....EBAY OWNS!) There were 13 sellers with 270,000 listings and within those listing were add on's that amounted in the millions!
Ebay can't seem to answer honestly to this...Usher Lieberman claims it was a 'test'...other's within Ebay said it was a 'bug'. Then Lieberman comes back days later stating that he made a mistake????? They are definitely padding their listings...I have been studying this since it started...They will be found out!

At this point, I had already closed my store before the 1st boycott and was hoping that they would listen up... But to no avail... They are so into themselves that they can't even see their impending doom...
I will help with the boycott as I set up my new site on online auction... I hope for the sake of the sellers that are left that ebay listens, but I don't forsee it... You have a bunch of people who have only a college education and no outside real world work... They can't see beyone their noses and will cut off their nose despite their face...
Ebay is falling quickly...

My husband & I participated in the boycott and stopped buying and selling. We aren't even sure we will go back.
We have been active members for almost 7 years and have many hundreds of transactions as buyer and seller.
We obviously don't like the fee hike and the way Ebay presented it as a fee reduction (yeah, right!!), but the ultimate slap in the face is the feedback change. Ebay is making every good seller on the site pay for what the bad sellers do instead of GETTING RID of the bad sellers!!
They are easy to find - you just have to look!
Some sellers have already seen the threats and extortion of buyers who think the change is already in place. This will only get worse.
We had over $35.000 in gross sales in the last 8 months. I know that's not huge compared to some, but every sale went smoothly for our buyers because we stand by what we sell. For ebay to treat us this way is more than we can take. And their attitude toward the sellers is atrocious - we are not just "noise".

Come on, ebay is saying they do not like sellers OR buyers with all the recent changes.
Feedback - ebay is saying all buyers are the same.
As a former buyer, I like to think my 100% means I am trustworthy, honorable and a good business partner for any seller. Now sellers will not be able to tell if I was a good buyer or a crook or deadbeat. I resent that the feedback I have earned as a buyer as been devalued, that my buying practices have been devalued.
Fee Increases - ebay just made it cost more for everything I win
This is basic business 101, costs go up, the cost to me as a buyer goes up. The grocery store is charging me more because of oil and feed prices rising - an ebay seller has to charge more because ebay's taking more from them.
21 day hold - Come on, that one is so blatently all about ebay inc it is not even funny.
As a buyer I was already protected by Paypal and my credit card. This one is all about Paypal making more money, nothing more.
If ebay was really interested in making my buyer experience better they would fix the following for me the buyer
1. Require id verification - I want to know the seller is who he says he is. I want to know the seller did not get booted off ebay last week and this is the new id that was so easy for him/her to get.
2. I want to know that Rolex that started at a penny is real, not a knockoff:-)
3. I want the programming environment to be safe and to WORK
4. I want to just once, get an email I send to ebay responded to correctly. I don't think once in 7 years is alot to ask.
5. When something is broken, I want ebay to be more "transparent" and tell me in a proactive manner so I don't think a seller is ignoring my email and not leaving me feedback. I mean they can alert me when my credit card is expiring in every annoyintg manner possible, they can certainly alert every member to site useage issues.
As a seller, if ebay wants to keep me (and I have 100%, 5, 5, 4.9 and 4.9 DSRs - so I am the seller they claim to want)
1. Worry about programming security so my credit card information does not show up on the discussion boards because a hacker is bragging how easy ebay is to break into.
2. Stop worrying about the 100 million you (EBAY) make on non-paying buyers and set one number for the number of strikes it takes to get a deadbest booted - especially if you are not going to allow me to leave appriopriate feedback.
3. When a buyer does a fradulent reversal of 200.00 and KEEPS my item, don't tell me I can't leave them negative feedback and you can't do anything in the same sentence.
4. Respond to my email questions in a timely manner and at least get 1 in 10 answered correctly, or at least have the canned robot response be close to the question I asked.
5. Make all buyers and sellers be verified so I know the buyer bidding on my item is a real person, not a deadbeat or a scam artist you booted last week who just got a new id.
6. Have the human resources to back up any new stupid policy you come up with.
Are we really suppose to believe you are going to protect sellers from extortion from buyers when the new feedback system kicks in May when you currently can't even respond to our current emails appropriately?
7. Buy some dictionaries and USE THEM. Begin by looking up terms like "reasonable", "Quickly", then rethick the stupidly of the current rankings you require for discounts. I know some 5th graders who can help you out on it if it's too complex for you.
8. Since you continuely raise fees, can you at least get the system to work correctly 80% of the time? We have had a month now where something has always been broken, from shipping calculators, feedback (ongoing), messaging system, listing forms, etc.
At least use the same alerts to tell us our credit card is about to expire to tell us what's broken so we do not spend hours trying to do something we will not be able to do because ebay is broken - once again.
Stop waiting until it's fixed to tell was it was broken to begin with - you want everything to be transparent you keep saying -- Start with yourself.
Nah, it's not just sellers ebay dislikes, its buyers too.

I am..oh wait, I should say I WAS a small time seller on eBay. When they made the annoucement regarding fee changes and changes with their feedback system, I let my auctions run and then stopped listing. I've been selling for a little over a year and was bringing in just under $1K a month. I participated in the boycott and have decided it's not worth going back to eBay.
First of all, eBay announces they are giving sellers a discount in listing fees. Woa! Yippee! Hey, I'm not stupid and I think I'm pretty good at math. No matter how I look at it, I'll be paying more in fees. So please explain to me how the new fee structure is saving me money?
Then eBay decides sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for buyers because some study showed sellers are more likely to leave retalitory negative feedback when a negative is received. Some sellers do do this and these are the sellers that eBay should be watching and booting off of eBay. Of course eBay will never do this because these powersellers bring in lots of $$ for eBay.
There are good sellers on eBay but eBay decides it much easier to sanction all sellers. With as much $$ eBay is bringing in each month, you'd think they'd spend a little money and hire some monitors to hang out on the eBay site and check out sellers who are leaving retalitory feedback. Heck, even I can do that. Just type in a search and click. Find a seller with more than 10 feedbacks in the month, kick them off. I've seen power sellers who have more than 100 negs in one month but eBay allows them to stay. Why? because of the $$ they pay to eBay.
As a seller, how in the world am I going to know if the buyer I'm dealing with is a non-payer? I rely on other sellers feedback to judge how a transaction between a buyer is going to be and if I need to cancel their bid or not. As it is, if a buyer doesn't pay for an item, eBay DOESN'T refund me the listing fees but will credit me the final fees. Hey I spent money on the listing fees and the buyer didn't pay so why should I still have to pay for it?? Ok, so if I relist and it sells, I get a credit but by now buyers have moved on or buyers are now skeptical thinking there is shill bidding going on. So my chances at re-selling the item is like 20%. That's why negative feedback is important so I can let buyers/sellers know of the non-paying buyer.
I have 474 positive feedback and have never received a neg or a neutral but eBay is still going to penalizing by telling me what type of feedback I can leave? I've left 524 feedbacks - 5 of which are negative for non-paying.
Lastly, what's up with the DRSs??? I have a 5.0/4.9/5.0/4.7. eBay tells me I need to communicate, communicate, communicate. Heellooo? I communicate every single step of the way, invoice right away, DC# info, item shipped on xx/xx. How much more can I communicate? Do I ned to send out smoke signals as well? I think 4.9 is pretty good but eBay told me it's borderline.
Shipping 4.7 - I don't control what the post office charges. I don't charge a handling fee and postage is clearly marked on the box but the buyer still thinks postage is too much. On top of that the buyer knows how much postage was BEFORE they placed the bid. If they didn't like it all they had to do was hit the back button but they chose to bid anyway.
In a recent community talk, eBay tells me I should offer free shipping and if my shipping star goes to 4.6 or below it's not good. Doesn't matter I have 100% positive feedback (never had a mutual withdrawal either). Buyers are being told a 4 *( is a very good rating but sellers are now finding out if they don't have a 5* rating it means diddly squat to ebay.
I will be moving on and actually have moved on to a more FRIENDLIER site. They few buyers I've had so far are very pleased. The new site's customer service is great too. Sent an e-mail asking a question and received a personal reply the very next day. Didn't recieve the standard generic reply that ebay sends out.
For now eBay isn't going to go anywhere. There are new sellers and buyers joining every day who are unaware of the changes that are taking place. I do feel that it's only a matter of time before ebay falls. eBay has bit the hands that feed them. The good ones are leaving and the bad ones are staying.

"our sales have dropped off and lookers have dried up"
That was posted by a non-boycotting seller (Jerry Hagstrom) up above....
Okay, not to be rude, but DUH. It's not just sellers boycotting, it is also BUYERS. So of course your sales and lookers have dropped off. That was the whole idea of the boycott!
But, hey, it must be all in your HEAD because EBAY says the boycott has had NO effect.
Aren't you glad that they think your loss of sales and revenues constitutes NO effect....
I'm not picking on you -- but your tale so clearly proves that eBay simply does not GET IT. The boycott IS having an effect, but it will take just a little longer for eBay to feel and recognize it than it does for the thousands of people who remained loyal to eBay and now are feeling the pain.
Sellers who have moved to the alternate sites (ioffer, ecrater, OLA, etsy, wagglepop, bidville, and many others) are starting to get a trickle of sales as buyers figure out where the sellers have gone.
eBay wasn't built in a day, and neither will the other sites. But unlike today's eBay, those sites WANT our business and have had the opportunity to learn from eBay's MANY mistakes.
BOYCOTT VICTORIOUSLY . . . until they get IT.....

I too am an eBay PowerSeller and yes I participated in the boycott - in fact, I still am. I am no longer buying or selling on eBay and am currently setting up my wares on other sites. I am not alone - there are many more users leaving the site than ebay cares to acknowledge.
I am certain that the boycot has and continues to impact on eBay negatively. They won't admit it - but their earnings for this quarter should eventually tell the tale loud & clear regardless.
As for what upsets me the most - it's a toss up. As a seller, I am very distressed about the never-ending fee increases. I am making plenty of money for eBay & PayPal but not enough profit to make it worthwhile for me to continue listing there.
There is however, no fixing the feedback debacle eBay has created that puts sellers at the mercy of customers who don't understand the rules of the site or have unreasonable expectations about shipping times. For eBay to allow unsubstantiated feedback to dictate a seller's fees or the placement of their listings in a search is extremely unfair.
I have perfect feedback & nearly perfect DSRs. I'm not the sort of seller eBay should want to be loosing. Sorry eBay - this seller has had enough! Ebay doesn't seem to get it: every seller who is leaving is also a buyer who is also leaving.

I had hoped eBay would be a solution for us to have a reliable, predictable income during our retirement years.
They change the playing field too often. They grab fees, they favour buyers, and they do not listen to us as sellers.
So much for their concept of a community.........it is a dictatorship.
I am absolutely sure there are tens of thousands of sellers like me moving away.......they may be replaced...but not with the quality of seller I would want to buy from......

I just wanted to add my little 2 cents to the above posts. I agree with all of it...ebay went way over the top this time.
My list of reasons are: #1 Feedback changes, #2 Best Search, #3 Customer Service, #4 DSR's and last but by no means last #5 Fee Decrease - I take exception to being told I am stupid and just noise. I did go to a small time high school in a small time hick town but I can Add and Subtract.
I check the acution/store listings on http://powersellersunite.com daily and on March 10, 2008 eCrater.com made it to the 1 Million listing mark...Yeah!! Several other sites are showing large jumps in listing counts, also. So, maybe ebay is feeling the boycott just a little bit.
I am predisposed towards eCrater because that is where I went in 06 and opened my little Mom 'N' Pop store. You get help if you need it, they actually listen when you ask for a new category or whatever and they are on top of fraud or fake listings which are suspended immediately. Check it out or any of the other great sites that are reasonable and care about the seller.

Please read my entire post before you want to lynch me. Don't be like an ebay CS response email and only glance at the first part of my message! Thank you.
The May 1st boycott will be a horrible failure, for one reason. The big boys and gals will not participate. Without a doubt, a successful boycott will require a majority of the members of the IMA, PESA, ECMTA , as well as the CA/MW groups to come on board.
I project it will be a frigid day in Hades when Scot Wingo's group would join; he appears to have completely morphed into an ebay sycophant. The odds of any of the other groups joining in our reindeer games are Slim To None. They claim it's a money issue, but I propose it is something else.
COURAGE. Or rather, the lack of it. Many of the boycotters can not afford to boycott, yet we did and continue to do so. If all of those groups of mega-sellers had joined, we would have a different ebay THIS VERY DAY!!!
COWARDS! There, I said it and I stand by it. I witnessed it in that video of the Q&A from the eCommerce meeting, held right after the announcements. One of the 200 uber-sellers asked a question - Donahoe started talking without answering the question - the seller interrupted with a clarification and Donahoe told him to Be Quiet and let him answer.
Not one dammed spine in the place. Not a single person stood up and told Donahoe what was on that person's mind... they had to be thinking it, right? Something like, "Hey, YOU shut the ___ UP! We ask the questions and you provide the answers, with no BS. The least amount of BS and we walk."
That's all it would have taken and we'd have a different ebay Today. Just a speck of some of the American courage that I know exists in the sellers that could least afford to boycott, yet seemed to be in short supply with those that claim to be members of GROUPS. What good are your piddly groups when they cower in fear so easily?!
OK, I'll try be reasonable. Actually, I have been reasonable, to this point, but no longer. Postings, pleas and emails don't appear to be enough of a hint to these groups. Maybe the words above will get the point across; I believe I covered everything in an easily comprehensible manner. uh huh, let's move on.
The May 1st boycott will be a resounding success, if one particular factor exists until it starts. Disgust. The level of disgust with ebay by the sellers keeps the Home Fires Burning. It burns to such a degree, we cannot adequately express just how pissed-off we are at ebay's apathy towards us.
As long as we are pissed, blogs such as this will remain. Currently, we can read about ebay's dirty laundry all over the internet - forums and blogs of all description, be they personal, business or financial in nature, the seething rage is visible to all.
And where there's seething rage, there's financial concern. And where there's financial concern, we have the attention of Investors and, by association, we also have ebay's attention. So, fellow sellers, stay pissed and May 1st will also be a success.
"...also be a success"??? As in, ALSO...like the past boycott was a success? Yes indeed. This blog, these very words are proof of that. As has been stated many times - You just can't buy this kind of advertising. It deals in a different currency: Blood, Sweat and Tears. And a bit of Courage, if you have that.
