Ahhhh... Kentucky Fried Chicken from the Colonel. Then it became KFC. Now it's Kentucky Fried Chicken again. Any way you slice it, they have some awfully good chicken and the most delicious gravy ever. Please don't tell me how many calories I'm eating or whether I'm next on the heart attack list thanks to all the fat.
Kentucky Fried Chicken is one of multiple restaurants under the Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) umbrella, which also includes Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Long John Silver's. The menu has changed a bit over the years, but the mainstay of KFC will always be the chicken dinners. You can currently get your chicken in original or extra crispy. Or you can choose the more modern chicken strips or popcorn chicken.
Popeye's Chicken, owned by AFC Enterprises (NASDAQ: AFCE), refers to itself as "New Orleans Chicken." With over 1,900 stores open at the end of 2007, Popeye's provides a little more variety in addition to the standard chicken meals. Of particular interest are the "Louisiana Legends," which include Creole, Jambalaya, Etoufee, and Smothered Chicken.
For a true chicken experience, I think KFC is the way to go. But if you prefer to spice it up and get a little New Orleans style food with your chicken, Popeye's is your brand of choice!

I don't know how anyone who has tried both could choose KFC. Popeyes is so much better and cheaper. Their side dishes put kfc to shame. To top it all off they have a spicey chicken option. Nobody makes better spicey chicken.

Popeye's is the chicken daddy in my eyes. It is hard for many to compare when KFC is around every corner and Popeyes has not made it to much of the North. I will travel 100 miles to get my Popeyes fix, in the past year I have done it ten times. I could go one mile for KFC, but in twenty years I have eaten there three times. Add spice to your life, Popeyes chicken.

I have to agree with both Bob T and lvpepsi. I have preferred Popeyes since the first time I had it some 20 or so years ago. Though there are several KFCs within 20 miles of me, I have driven over 200 miles to get some Popeyes a couple of times. Now though there are two Popeyes within about 25 miles of me. I am so glad because I used to pick up at least a hundred $ worth of Popeyes (just the chicken) to stick in my freezer everytime I would go the 200 miles away. Popeyes is a lot more flavorful and the sides are so much better then the fare at KFC.

I have to agree with the others. Popeyes is the best. I just wish they would open more restaurants. I lived in Louisiana for 25 years and I really missed my chicken when I moved. I was so excited to have them open one closer to me but I would drive miles and miles for popeyes. They are cheaper then kfc and taste soooooo much better. I also agree that their sides or better. Hopefully they will be around for a very long time.

popeyes is the better bird, but like with wendy's superiority over mc or b.k., can they ever get my order right?

I will not eat at KFC if there is a Popeye's anywhere close to me. Their sides are SO good and the spicy chicken beats anything KFC has to offer. The fried crawfish are also a welcome addition to their menu and the efouffee is to die for. Plus, they give a discount for us "old folks" seniors.

I love the spicey chicken at Popeye's. They both have fairly good biscuits. The red beans and rice at Popeye's are better than any side at KFC. We seldom eat at either because the service sucks.

david is soooo right! There is a Popeye's about half a mile from our house. They NEVER get the order right. It's like a grab bag. They put all the orders up and when they hand them out, it's potluck.

I live here in New Orleans and there is a Popeye's right by my house. There used to be a KFC right by the Popeye's too, but the people have made thier chicken choice and KFC had to go. I know people that don't live in N.O. anymore and when ever they come back they have to have Popeye's. I've never lived far from a Popeye's so I never knew how lucky I have it.

As a kid, we would always have to stop at a KFC to eat while traveling. ALWAYS But back in 1984 at the World's Fair in New Orleans I was saved. I hade Popeyes for the first time one day at the World's Fair and now I can count on one hand the number of times I have had KFC since 1984.
My wife will suggested from time to time, that we move out of Louisiana for better jobs but everytime she does I come back with, "We can not move to a place that does not have a Popeyes. Period."
If you like fried shrimp, try the butterflied shrimp platter at Popeyes and then e-mail if you have ever had a better shrimp dinner then what you just ate Popeyes. I have feeling my in box will stay empty.
I don't want to go as far as to say that Popeyes is divine but I do refer to it as PopeYes.

KFC has the more recognizable and widespread (and thus more valuable) brand, but when it comes to fried chicken, Popeye's destroys KFC, and it's not even close.

I can't live without my Popeyes Chicken. I have a craving at least once a week. KFC does nothing for me. "Love that chicken from Popeyes."

I'm from Orl Fl & I love Popeye's chicken.
I'm not particularly fond of KFC. I find their chicken rather greasy. Although, I haven't tried KFC in years & things may have changed. I might give KFC a try again sometime.
There aren't very many Popeyes around Orlando, but fortunately there is one about 3 miles from me with a KFC across the street.
The only thing I miss about Popeyes chicken is their extra crispy, I'm not too fond of the spicy.
Keep up the good work Popeyes.
