This post is part of a series on celebrity spokespeople who ended up doing serious harm to the brands they were hired to promote, or vice versa. See how we rank the 20 top spokesperson fiascos.
When it rains, it pours. Back in 2005 Defamer reports that Star " I am a lawyer" Jones was booted as a spokesperson for Payless Shoe Source around the same time that she was dumped from The View. Jones was clearly of no use to the shoe chain once she was Barbaraed off of The View. So Payless used its steel-toed boot to kick her to the curb.
Defamer noted that both parties tried to put a good spin on the situation. Payless said that the terms of their contract called for it to end after three years and that it was successful. And Jones said the same thing about the contract ending -- but she suggested that Payless decided it no longer wanted celebrities to endorse its products. Jones clearly still considered herself a celebrity.
But the people who release such statements are often paid well to provide a different view of reality. Unfortunately for Jones, it has been years since she's had as good a marketing platform as The View -- from which to offer such spin.

Barbara Walters is an egomaniac, and she black-balls people who refuse to think "her way". She stated that she would no longer watch anything directed by Mel Gibson because of his anti-semitic comments, yet in her "tell all" book, the public is supposed to accept her when she was nothing short of a whore, sleeping with a married man? Give me a break Barbara Walters. Maybe you need to be black-balled by every REAL WOMAN on this planet, including Star Jones.

Relevance is abstract. Star Jones article wouldn't have been published, had it not been for her initial "black balling" by Barbara Walters. Walters was just the catalyst for the entire article. And, as said in my previous email, she needs a reality check - and should be given one by every REAL WOMAN in our country.

It used to annoy me to no end how Star Jones would remind everyone at least once per show that she was an lawyer. Okay! Okay! We get the picture--but counselor, you were guilty of perjury
when you denied that your drastic weight loss occured thru your amazing self-control. I lost all respect for her after that--and I don't blame Payless for dumping her! Now who is she? Like Paris Hilton she is really famous for NOTHING

I don't think she ever added anything to "The View"(just like Elizabeth)...she was more of a "lets disagree just for the hell of it".

Star Jones getting booted from Payless Shoes was a good thing. Who needs to be a spokesperson for a cut rate shoe outlet? I was ready for Star to leave the "View" after her endless promotion and begging for gifts for her multimillion dollar wedding to a gay guy. She lied about her gastric bypass. And what did they do with all that left over skin? Now she is free to be the "lawyer" she so embraces. As for Barbara Walters, she has become an embarrasment to the shows she is on and to herself. Barbara, please retire with a small shred of dignity.

I couldn't stand Star Jones from day one. Talk about an ego out of control. Fat was okay when Star was fat. No one on the show dared to say anything negative about obese people. Then Star tried DESPERATELY to get a husband on The View and found.... NO ONE! I was embarrassed for her with that stunt. So poor Star married a gay guy Al and pretended to be madly in love and the wedding of the century with all the free gifts she could muster. Then Star said after the wedding, she was tired of people in her personal life. That might have been when news of gay Al arrived. Star constantly reminded everyone she was an attorney. I was so glad to see her get the boot off the show. Now, Barbara writing her biography was a bad mistake. I think most people's opinion of her went "flush" with the toilet. When asked if she loved the married man she was dating, Barbara said, "I think so". Excuse me? Barbara dated the man for his power, prestige and to benefit her career. But then again, did anyone think Barbara was a cream puff?

OK Star was annoying, so is Barbar Walters. However, I do have to take exception with the comments on the bypass. I have a gastric band (I wasnt fat enough for the bypass) and after dieting (successfully but regaining) my entire life, I decided to take positive action for my health. I can tell you regular dieting is much easier!!! It does take extreme self control with a band or a bypass, you have to give up so many things 'normal' people take for granted for the rest of your life. Imagine never having any carbonated beverage for the rest of your life, and that is just one of many. You still have to watch (even more closely) what you eat, how much you eat, and you still have to exercise. Please, if you are going to comment (and I believer you have every right to do so) educate yourself on the topic first. It is a choice by most that is a last resort, not to be taken lightly, and for the benefit of health not aesthetics (although, they are a great benefit).

Star Jones has paid to high a cost at the hands of the "views" of society that has excused people that commit rapes and murders.
Stars only crime was in her identity as a lawyer. Being fat she had to build up her self-esteem and identity by reminding herself and others that she was relevant, but she was penalized for it. When she decided that it was time to take off the weight she knew she would need help and she sought it without the PERMISSION OF THE SOCIETY THAT HAD JUDGED HER AS TOO FAT AND TOO SELF AWARE, and she was fired. She did not lie, she just did not share, but all of you screamed on her while screaming for your own rights of privacy.
Star was screwed either way, she just did not know it.
