Sarah Palin is McCain's pick for VP
Alaskan governor Sarah Palin will be the VP candidate for the Republican ticket. She is pro-drilling in Alaska but otherwise her business interests are not significant. And she has taken on the special interests in Alaska -- including Senator Ted Stevens, who wanted to build a bridge for nowhere.
I listened to her speech this afternoon, and I thought she did a very good job. She gave a simple speech which introduced herself and her family and described her union membership and her meteoric rise in Alaska politics.
It's clear that she was picked by McCain and not his advisors who might have preferred Romney for his fundraising prowess. Will she take Hillary votes from the Obama ticket?

Hell no she wont take hillary votes... Good luck with that... I dont understand McCains strategey here, and i can already hear MsNBC already praising him for such a "wonderful choice..." I seriously hate political analysts... They just talk out of their butts...
I think Mitt Romney would have been a better choice, obv because all this time, everyone has been studying him and the other repub candidates... Now we have to start from scratch with this one?? jeezus... Whats going on McCain??

Good grief. The OBAMUNNISTS are out in full force at Real Politics. The usual trickery of filling up the blogs. Blog away. John McCain made a great choice. Whoever tries the argument about her being a mother of a young child will get beat down, Joe Loser had two sons in the hospital and a wife to bury when he went into politics. Am I to assume that it was okay for him to work, but not Sarah. Get effing real. This woman is a strong, smart, great pick. NOBama could have selected HILLARY, but nooooooooo. Again the Republicans have pulled it off. I'm a lot more satisfied with my pick today.

A former beauty queen, a former mayor, a former fishing business owner, is this her only exective experience? And she is under investigation. If McCann dies after he is elected, you mean we will have someone with no experience to play with the big boys and their countries? What kinda of joke is this? This is by far ithe worst McCann. You'll never get my vote.

Saved if you're worried that "we will have someone with no experience to play with the big boys and their countries" then Obama can't possibly be your man. He has 2 years in the U.S Senate (the last 2 have all been spent campaigning), where he's accomplished zip. Putin would beat him like a drum. Vote for McCain and pray for his good health!

I dont agree that she was personally picked by McCain. Since its been confirmed that he only met her twice prior to selection, this makes this an obvious powermove by the republican machine in an effort to grab headlines and disenfranchised hillary supporters.

Sarah Palin is a real woman and a great choice as vice president.
She is pro-life, pro-family and no nonsense.
And unlike Hillary or Michelle Obama, has common sense.
McCain upped the bar against Obama who claimed he wasn't going to play Washington DC politics but instead nominated a lifer who has accomplished about as much as Obama-zero.

I am very proud to be an Alaskan! I have great confidence in our Governor Sarah Palin. I know she will be great for our Country, strong, confident, not afraid to do what she needs to do in order to get the job done regardless of whether everyone likes her or not for the decision she may have to make. She is ok saying it is ok to agree to disagree, but, keep the goal in mind to make the best decisions that will benefit all American's! I am confident that any choice she makes is one that is necessary and beneficial for our Great USA! Do not fear that she would not be more than capable to step in if necessary to run our country with a strong confident spirit! She has proven many times to have the guts to stand for what is right and I know she is more than capable to fill any man's shoes if she needs to. Great choice John McCain!

Umm, As a mother of a child with Down Syndrome I would hope that she will have an agenda to help those with disabilities. The programs that are in place now are not able to help to families raising children like my son. From the time they are born families in NJ have to pay out of pocket for speech, OT, PT, etc. Very costly for some families. We are hoping someone like Sarah Palin can help very strapped families who are trying their best to raise their children at home and not tax the overtaxed citizens.

BREAK THE GLASS CEILING !!!
WOW ... What a great pick!!! America should elect
McCain & Palin for the Whitehouse in November,
for a return to wholesome American values.
An experienced Governor for V.P. vs. a
community organizer for President ... I pick Palin.
No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko,
no mean Michelle, NOBAMA

This pick is horrible. Who needs a former Beauty Queen, mayor of a city with population of 6,000, governor for a year and a half of a state with limited industry and real-life problems.
And anyone who thinks Clinton female supporters will jump ship is insane. Yes there are a few out there too stupid to realize issues and only wanted Clinton because she was a woman, but her female fan base also had another common characteristic, they were liberal!!!...duh.
McCain is so sexist to and backwards to think this is about gender, goes to show once again how out of touch he really is. Typical rich white male thinking!!!
If Obama lost the primaries, would he be selecting a black veep and say to African Americans, "hey, your party didn't want you, come vote Republican." Apparently he would.
Obama never used the fact that he is black as a selling tactic. He won on issues, on the hope he brought to the platform, and the power he conveyed. People say he lacks experience, which is true, but he has demonstrated the skills needed int he way he has presented himself to Washington, the American people, as well as, the rest of the world. Because a lot of people see this in him, he is popular. Becasue he is popular, McCain calls him a celebrity. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! McCain is on the wrong, reactionary, path and will lose. A path that only someone who is way out of touch with the American people could be on.
Next week Obama will have above 50% approval.

She's from a state where out of touch people go to to stay out of touch. lol.
So McCain is thinking like a typical out of touch rich white male. In this case also old male since his thinking is a throback from many decades. He is thining women are too emotional and irrational to think with their heads, that they will vote for him now because he has a woman. That's pathetic.
All of McCains decisions have been reactionary and out of touch. He won't win. I can't see him being advised on this. He will lose.

There's alot of fear in the posts of you pro-Obama people. I've listened to Sarah Palin and I instantly felt an energy that I've never felt about political candidates. This is a real person, a mother of 5 children, what seems like a picture perfect family. You don't get that with Obama or Biden and being honest, probably McCain too. Let's be honest out there. Obama would have been finished at the start of the primaries if it weren't for his race. He's running on his race! You can make the case that Palin is on the ticket because she's a woman and your probably right. But she 's got energy and she shares my values and many others and that's what's important. She hasn't spent her life living as a professional victim like Obama or his wife. McCain's strategy is brilliant and the force of it is building like a tidal wave ready to crash on the Obama beach party.

The reason why I think McCain picked her is because Dick Cheney put a shotgun to McCain's face and made him.
In all seriousness, the reason why he made this "Maverick" choice is because The Democrats did a good job linking him to George W. Bush with his 90% voting record. Going into the Republican convention, how could any Republican distance themselves from Bush and not support McCain?
Looks like the "Maverick" is looking more like "Goose" (Top Gun movie reference )
