Alaskan governor Sarah Palin will be the VP candidate for the Republican ticket. She is pro-drilling in Alaska but otherwise her business interests are not significant. And she has taken on the special interests in Alaska -- including Senator Ted Stevens, who wanted to build a bridge for nowhere.
I listened to her speech this afternoon, and I thought she did a very good job. She gave a simple speech which introduced herself and her family and described her union membership and her meteoric rise in Alaska politics.
It's clear that she was picked by McCain and not his advisors who might have preferred Romney for his fundraising prowess. Will she take Hillary votes from the Obama ticket?

She is exactly what this country needs - someone who knows how to be middle class women raising a family and working toward the common good of her family and community - not these high powered attorneys. Remember Obama is an attorney, his wife is an attorney, hillary is an attorney (although I liked hillary the best out of the attorney's). McCain is from the millitary and Sara is one of us!!!! I will be the first one in line to vote and I will be voting for Palin and McCain. And for every successful man out there the truth is "Behind every successful man is a outstanding women". For those who don't get that I appologize that you married the wrong women! Go SARAH!!!!!! This is not emotion it is a FACT - Go back to your good ole' boy network. Every women I spoke to democrate or republican loves her!

I am so happy!!! Omg, what a wonderful feeling to know that McCain respects women enough to have chosen Sarah Palin as his VP :)
Women have been put down so much in the past...like they are not intelligent enough to become someone in high office. They have fought many years just to be able to get a decent days pay, and taking very little pay in comparison to doing the same job as a man.
Women are now being realized for all their potential, and like I said it is a great feeling! Yes I was a Hillary fan ,but will be voting for McCain/Palin this fall.

Palin will attract women and evangelicals previously on the fence about McCain, and give staunch Hillary 2012'ers even more reason to stay home in 08 to passive-aggressively stick it back to Obama and Biden for being short-shrifted.
Being from Alaska politically and born in Idaho, Palin will help McCain in the western states.
In one move McCain undercut Obama in the field of 'change', weakened his taken-for-granted Hillary base, shored up Ohio-Michigan-Pennsylvania and the South, became more appealing to Western States, and highlighted Obama's inexperience.
When Obama supporters point a finger at Palin and cry, "Inexperience!" three fingers will be pointing back at them.
If Palin does well on the trail and in VP debates, at best Obama and Hillary will pontificate on the Senate sidelines for another four years, while awaiting their 2012 rematch.
McCain's military experience surfaced here, as his choice of Palin was a good civilian example of blitzkrieg-style leap-frogging past enemy strongholds and turning the tables on them.

I support McCain's choice in Palin. Whether it was the right choice - time will tell. One thing is certain - McCain's choice of Palin sure beats the hell out of the Democrat's choice of Obama as their candidate!
