In that latest sign that the company is desperate for cash, General Motors (NYSE: GM) is suing some of its employees and retirees, alleging that they improperly granted the company's family discount to non-relatives, costing the company $450,000 in sales. Now hold up: last month GM announced that it was extending the employee/family discount to everyone, and it's simultaneously suing a handful of employees for extending the discounts to friends. Cognitive dissonance, anyone?
Given all of the problems the company has -- like billions in losses and a rapidly deteriorating balance sheet -- you'd think they'd have better things to do than chase down workers for a few thousand dollars in discounts. And then there's the fact that it's unclear whether GM really lost anything: would people have bought the cars without the discount?
It's puzzling -- and amusing -- that GM is going after employees who did exactly what the company is doing, but on a much smaller scale.
But in the world of farce and inadvertent parody, GM is the gift that keeps on giving.

GM has more Green Busses, truckes and service vehicles on the road than any other company. Those millions of miles put on MONTHLY dwarf the contributions of your trendy hybrid. Toyota's Service Division belches out more hydrocarbons world wide that make your Prius's "carbon foot print" more like an ant print.
Think with your head people do not listen to the commercials or those folks in Hollywood that are out of touch with reality.

GM having trouble balancing the budget and making a fair profit does NOT surprise me. I would like for them to explain WHY they discontinued making the Buick Rendevous. Without exception, it was and is a fine vehicle. Could it be that they want their present Rendevou
owners to buy a more expensive and LOADED "Enclave"? WHY??????

My Dad worked for & retired from Ford. I have always been a die-hard American- made car buying individual. I remember my Pop getting so angry over the imports during the 70's. I have an '89 Mustang GT, just turned over 200,000...runs great. Maybe alittle rust here & there...but by far, the very best car I've ever owned. I would never insult my Dad by buying aything but a Ford product. I've never had my name on the title of any vehicle that didn't carry a blue Ford oval. I even went to work at Ford dealerships & wrote service orders for years. I wanted to promote their products & deliver great service to those who purchased them. I love the company, love the vehicles they sell...I'll never buy anything except a Ford product. The quality of domestically produced cars & trucks is awesome. Wake up America...quit screwing your neighbor. Be an American & buy American. The blood that flows through my veins is Ford blue...always will be!!!

The big companies will do any little thing to squash the Union workers in the United States. Even if it means putting out inferior products to justify that they are in charge. Japanese cars made here by United States workers are just as good or better than those made in Japan and sell very good as GM has found out. The stock holders better ask some deep questions at their next meeting.

First off, the facts are: GM is just enforcing the well-known rules that the violators did not adhere to, along with the also well-known remedies; GM does make lots of high-mileage vehicles (just cannot make enough of them now ... and only Honda makes the Fit!). Of course GM is known for the big pickups and SUV's which were so popular and profitable until the energy bubble suddenly appeared - would the high-mileage vehicles sold well (with all the necessary compromises, particularly space and weight) enough when gas was less than $2./ gal.?; GM has made many mistakes (vs. some others in the industry) in the last 30 years, but being the Biggest at that time has invited undue criticism, since it seems, to be the American way to criticize the leader as the cause of "all that ails us". Wake up America! ....the bottom line is, America cannot AFFORD to send its manufacturing base "overseas"! (I recall Ross Perot telling Bush and Clinton this in a 1992 presidential debate .... in fact Ross seemed shocked that they embraced the concept!)

I have been a mechanic for 30 years and the best vehicle by far for the money you pay is Honda. I too, used to be the guy that said I had to buy American but after years of driving subpar American made cars and seeing fewer and fewer of the Hondas in the shop...well it just adds up. I still drive American made trucks because they are better than any import out. Why should I spend my hard earned money on an inferior product to keep a bunch of mostly overpaid unionized employees happy. If they want to keep their standard of living, they should earn it.

As a business customer to GM for the last 4 years I can only say one thing. BYE. I've spent hundreds of thousands on there light duty trucks over the last 4 years only to have many issues unresolved in the service department. Theres always an excuse for not making a repair under my bumber to bumber warrantee's. Theres many problems lately with the instrument clusters going haywire for no reason. Guess what, No fix. I never should have left Ford. Guess where I going in October? Ford. For GM to bitch about discounts to friends of employees is unbelievable. I don't give them 5 years before they go bankrupt. I will NEVER buy another GM vehicle.

"Hope all you foreign car buyers are happy next thing we will be all eating rice because your American dollars went to Japan. Shame on any of you that own a non American car you should all be paying big tax bills because of it. If your a real American you should be driving a real American car and thats the bottom line get with the program or suffer later. Yea my Chevys and Oldsmobiles might not get 30 mpg but I fed an American worker with the money I spent buying my American cars"
Funny...Look at where cars are made. Many fords and Chevy's are made in Canada and/or mexico, while BMW, Toyota, Honda, VW, Mazda, etc. are made here in the USA!
I prefer "Import" cars. They truly feed an American worker!

I don't think the American car manufacturers are in bed with the oil companies, or thay would have known about the NEW price for gas. They made there money selling big cars, more profit per car, and had the small less profitable cars in their line made overseas. Now big cars and SUVs are no longer in favor. What we need now is an electric car that can go 50 miles befor recharge, with a diesiel engine that can run on oil from the seeds of some weed, with maybe a hydrogen generator on board.

GM has been pushing its employees to tell all the people we know to use this discount. Its called friends and familys. And now they are sueing over it? lol... how sad, all the employees that lost their jobs due to bad decissions and now they are getting punished again for doing exactly what GM asked of them... if you work for GM, do what is asked.. you get screwed either way. Love the company, hate the leadership
