If John McCain wants my vote he must dump Sarah Palin and fast. Judging by the latest polls showing Barack Obama moving ahead and gaining traction, I'm not the only one that feels this way. The outcome of the election is key to investors worried about a range of issues including the $700 billion federal bailout of Wall Street.Obama may lack the experience I would hope to see in a presidential candidate but to quote a friend and fellow McCain supporter "Sarah Palin is an idiot and the only way she should be allowed in the White House is if she buys a tour ticket." This is not a unique sentiment given the Sarah Palin must go stance taken by conservative columnist Kathleen Parker of the Los Angeles Times. She says her cringe reflex is being exhausted.
I do not like Obama's proposals on capital gains taxes, a windfall oil profits tax, new government programs and several other issues, but the idea of Palin being second-in-command is a joke. And speaking of jokes, if I have misjudged, and McCain and Palin win the election, then Oprah will be surpassed as the wealthiest female in the entertainment industry. The new titan will be 30 Rock and former Saturday Night Live star Tina Fey who will be racking up fat paychecks based on the never ending material supplied by Palin.
I do not think she will be able to keep up with the opportunity. Here is the actual Katie Couric's interview segment with Sarah Palin. I do not think Palin is an idiot. What comes across most is that she seems unprepared and out of her league. Couric who has received her share of criticism for being out of her league as a television news anchor, comes across as much more sophisticated and prepared.
As best as I can make out certain factions in the Republican party like many of Palin's political positions (guns, abortion, taxes). Fair enough. Taking a favorable position is not the same as being qualified. Obviously it is easier to become Governor of Alaska than anyone ever imagined.
There are co-ops in New York that would be more politically challenging to manage than Alaska and some of them probably have more Russians to interface with. However, even with their "foreign relations experience" they would not be qualified to get my vote either.
Yes there are stocks that would benefit from Sarah Palin's (and McCain's) presence. These include defense, big oil, and fashion: Avon Products (NYSE: AVP), Coach Inc (NYSE: COH), ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP), General Dynamics Corp (NYSE: GD), Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Tiffany and Co (NYSE: TIF) and Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM)
My favorite stock if Obama is president is generic drug maker Teva Pharm Indus ADR (NASDAQ: TEVA)
One last thought. Living on the left coast in California with an actor as governor (done that before), the State is very likely to throw its electoral votes toward Obama no matter what McCain does, so maybe I'm just jaded by my surroundings. I also think McCain is a very loyal guy -- one of his admirable character traits -- so I think it would be very hard to make a change at this late date. All of us have hoped for an improvement in our economy sooner rather than later. Clearly, McCain and his advisors hoped the same for Sarah Palin. Can he overcome both Palin and the economy?

Howard,
This is just one bad interview and Palin's supporters are not holding this against her. She is a beginner to the national scene and people realize she's in a learning curve for dealing with the media. Obama made serious gaffs when he interviewed at the beginning of this her. It is well known he beleived there to be 57 states as well as numerous other gaffaws. Anyone with any sense would see that Palin's experience is domestic, not international and unlike Obama she does not bring her inexperience to the top of the ticket.

Are we witnessing the political machine at work here? Scott D. and Brian both wrote to some guy named Howard with the exact same response to the Palin/Couric interview.
Is there a "stock" response going around to white wash the bad press?

Honestly, Palin is scary - McCain might be incapacitated during his presidency, and if she holds the rudder for only a limited amount of time, she could do more damage than Mr Bush.
And, compared to the tax increases necessary to make up for the $700 billion bailout plan and $3 trillion Iraq war, any new programs Obama might put into place would be pocket change.

Dump Palin? are you insane?
She has more experience then the entire democratic ticket. Ignore the polls, until the exit polls come out.
Palion holds more Top Secrets as govr of Alaska then the other 49 govnrs combined. Get Real! Commander of the Alaska Natl Guard which is on duty 24/7 unlike the rest of the states, due to proximity to Russia.
Why won't obama reveal who funded his $1.1 million Ivy league Education?
Is this al queda from the inside?
What does obama have? $850 BILLION bill to feed the world we'll have to pay. Who's gonna feed us? That hopefully will never pass yet if it does, say goodbye to 1/2 your current paycheck.

Talk about an idiot !! Sheldon Liberal has shown he makes Obama look like a genius and I never thought that was possible.
Palin is the best thing about this election !!! What gets me is that her interview with Katie was very easy to follow or understand and I think she thought it was rather obvivious also.
However, for the many Democrats and Liberals who can't grasp what she meant..... I'll try to clarify... see, Alaska is a State wayyyy up North. Russia is a Country veryyyy close to Alaska.... still with me ?? Ok hope so, Russia has veryyyyy manyyyy Nuclear Weapons ( think BIG firecrackers ) ... ok ? Now,the United States ( this is the country where you live ) and Russia are not very good friends. So, many American leaders are afraid Russia might attack us... OK ? And many experts have said that if they do.... the shortest and best route for them to attack us from is from the North or where that State called Alaska is. Still with me , I know this is hard , soooo the Govenor of Alaska has to be very cautious and must be very concerned and informed about the dangers to her State and her People and the People of the United States .
That help any ?

Bill,
Thank you for the geography lesson. Her possibly losing sleep over her proximity to Russia does not equate to any type of experience any more than you worrying about it.
Your thin comments do not add any information to the discussion. You remind me of the folks that simply speak english more slowly when traveling in a foreign country. For some reason you think speaking in a foreign tongue more slowly matters?
You also choose to label anyone that disagrees with you by some made up term that in my case surely does not apply but you probably did not read the Obama post I included.
Finally, if Palin gets enough support from people with such low standards than McCain has a fighting chance.

Palin is an idiot and there is no other way to put it. And McCain is dumb for picking her.
Sadly there are people out there who think she's doing good. She couldn't answer a question on Katie Couric. She did horribly.
And we're going to put her in the white house?

The article Mr. Libers wrote is based on his opinion that Palin's percieved lack of "experience" is the basis that she is not qualified. This is justified ONLY if you apply the same criteria to the opposing camp. Obama has been campaigning for President longer than he has actually been in the Senate! Where is the call by the "media" for him to step down, due to lack of experience? If you have an opinion based on comparisons, at least compare apples and apples, not apples and oranges.

Thanks for making us McCain supporters look really stupid. Yes we know where Alaska is. And, no, Sarah Palin is not qualified to be President. She's barely qualified to be governor.
I love when people say she has "Executive experience." Executive experience doing what? Her track record in AK was unimpressive at best. I think this election would have been a slam dunk for Mac had he picked Rudy or Huckabee. Now, it's a toss up.

Oh you chaps, give the lady a break. She might be able to redeem herself during the debate on Friday. I hope she does for her youth brought a different vitality to the McCain ticket.
But even if she blows it again on Thursdays the moose hunters and the ultra conservatives are going to still vote for her. Frankly if she wants to be seen as a learned politician, she's got to master the topics when she debates on Thursday.

You guys and your fancy computer games are out-of touch. So people are laughing at Sarah. They laugh at America!!! You know... you can keep laughing, but Sarah Palin keeps roping in the endorsements. The latest ones come from Chuck and Sally Heath. See, what you seem to fail to understand is that Sarah Palin is a human interest story. After watching all the conflict and crisis in America today, sometimes you gotta just kick back and take in some empty calories. And you know what? Sarah Palin delivers.
So to all those naysayers and doomsayers and critics out there that can do what they want because it's a free country, Sarah Palin is just going to be Sarah Palin and take on her next challenge:

Ok this is totally retarded. How could you ever, EVER, support a retard like Sarah Palin. If you people watched any news coverage WHATSOEVER! You would not be supporting someone that can't answer a few simple questions when 2/3s of the collegiate population of the United States could answer those questions better. Her own campaign tells her not to talk to reporters. And if she can't answer questions about her personal life how can she deal with terrorists or a crumbling economy?
If any of you weren't so bias towards John McCain you would see how much of a laughing stock she would make this country if she was in office. A cup of warm piss could do better for this country than that hunk of lead. Wake the F*** UP!

Imagine for a second that she has to negotiate with Putin, Chavez or even president Sarkozy. These people know their business. Are we supposed to put a nice gal in there with them for a chat? It doesn't bear thinking about. She could probably do lots of things quite well. But she is totally out of her league in the role she is trying to play (and she is playing).
Why oh why did the Republicans let Colin Powell go? He was the last qualified man on the team.
