McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) is planning to replace its Double CheeseBurger with a new sandwich called the McDouble. The new cheeseburger will be a little less cheesy, with two beef patties but only one slice of cheese. Analysts estimate that the McStingy will cost about six cents less to make -- combined with the company's plan to raise the price to about the dollar mark, it could spell increased profitability for the chain.
"We want our customers to know they can depend on McDonald's to provide the everyday value and convenience they've come to expect, every time they visit our restaurants," said Greg Watson, vice president of marketing at McDonald's USA. "These recommended changes will ensure we continue to satisfy our customers' tastes and wallets."
One possibility is that McDonald's will attempt to market the new burger as healthier, eliminating one slice of cheese hacks off 15% of the fat and 11% of the calories.
The timing for a price increase, however, is awkward. But the combination of cost-cutting and price increases could make the move profitable even if sales take a dive.

Ok--I want to Mcblog here real quick as it is Halloween and time for the kids--but since when does removing a slice of cheese from a cheese burger constitute being a "new burger", and I really like how McDonalds is catering to the needs of "my pocketbook" "These recommended changes will ensure we continue to satisfy our customers' tastes and wallets" Yup, that's just a 'great Mcstake'. Fire that particular vice president! Boo!

I hope it has more meat than the Big Mac. You can swallow both patties on a big mac in one bite!

They are doing this just because Wendy's already did. Wendy's tried to increase the price of their chesseburger that was on the .99 cent menu up to $1.29. It was received poorly by the public, so they rolled out a "double stacker"and put it on the .99 cent menu to save face. It is an item with less ingredients.
I heard on the news 2 weeks ago that McDonalds was putting their double cheeseburger up to $2.00! I'm sure it wasn't received well so they came up with this new item.

Just have to add another comment...all these complaints are understandable but I bet 1/2 of the complainers are in some type of business, and I would also bet that they have increased their fee/prices more often than Mickey D's has..

I have been eating double cheseburgers at McDonald's all of my life. (born 1957) I even special ordered them when they were removed from the posted menu for many years. They are my favorite McDonalds sandwich. I am disappointed that they are changing the old standby. In the past year or so I have noticed that they haven't been the same though. I was thinking about giving upon McDonalds food anyway, but now I have an excuse! Thanks McDonalds, I couldn't have quit without you.

one slice of cheese is plenty, I certainly don't need two. often when I go to McDonald's or other fast food I order a hamburger over one with cheese anyway, because it's healthier (lower in fat and less calories to keep my intake reasonable). so I'm fine with the one.
however I didn't understand the article that well when it described what the new price would be ($1-what?), but it implied it would be slightly higher. so we're looking at at least a 6-cent difference, probably greater. though there would be additional marketing costs as well in the new name and wrapper.
by the way, the "1996" burger has already been debunked as fake because the "I'm Lovin It" slogan on the wrapper didn't start until 2002 or 2003. so basically, someone took a new burger and photographed it, which (shockingly!) still looks new. no story there.

McStingy is about right. I had a Filet of Fish the other day and the moron that made the thing tried to throw it together in record fashion and when I opened the box ,the piece of cheese was on the inside of the box and it was only a half of slice of cheese. I complained to the non-english speaking manager that I wanted a full slice of cheese on my artificial fish sandwich and she said that is how they make them now, with a half of slice of cheese.

Personally, I don’t eat at McDonald's so this doesn’t affect me.
But I do need to respond to:

“I'm disgusted with McDonald's posting signs in English and Spanish. The growing infiltration of Hispanics in our country is one of the biggest threats to our national security. WalMart does this as well. If you want to come to this country illegally, at least learn to communicate.”
Ever heard of…….
Las Vegas, Nevada?
San Francisco, California?
Los Angeles, California?
Santa Fe, New Mexico?
El Paso, Texas?
San Antonio, Texas?
Yep, these are Spanish names for cities where Mexican citizens lived in a place called Mexico up until about 1845.
Texas, California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming were all part of Mexico and the U.S. took them for chump change.
So, here’s the dumbed down history lesson.
U.S. gov’t in the 1800’s proclaims that God is on our side (Manifest Destiny) and wants the U.S. to have all the land from ‘sea to shining sea’. So, you do things that look that appear ‘reasonable’ like trying to buy the west (Texas to California and beyond) for a bargain price, 40 Million. Then, because your low ball offer was rejected you create a reason to use force, ‘The Alamo’ among other things. You kick their @$$ and give them less than half of the low ball offer for the land, $18 Million. That way you can tell everybody throughout history that you paid for it.
Here’s a bit of interesting trivia, the US congress criticized President Polk in 1845 for, "a war unnecessarily and unconstitutionally begun by the President of the United States”. One of the most vocal critics at the time later became president… you may have heard of him, Abe Lincoln.
This is sounding very similar to the present situation with regards to U.S. initiated wars and U.S. politics.
History repeats itself.
Two things I must disclose:
1. I am an American, born in California (of English, Irish & German decent).
2. I live in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico.

The price of dairy is increasing so either they have to take off a slice of cheese to even it out or increase the price by about 29 cents. I have worked at McDonalds for 3 years and know a lot of people that help run the stores. If you were selling cookies and the price of one of chocolate chips went up, would you charge more or change the amount of chocolate chips? They're just doing what they have to do.
