When Oprah speaks, America listens, and when she reads (God bless her!), Americans read, too. Thus her gush about Amazon's (NASDAQ:AMZN) electronic reader the Kindle has come as a blockbuster for the online merchant. According to Advertising Age, as soon as Oprah mentioned the Kindle on her October 24th Oprah's Book Club, Google searches on the term went up fivefold. Traffic directed to Amazon from Oprah.com went through the roof (15,000%) and the aggregate of all visits to Amazon were bumped up 6%, an enormous spike in a mature site. Given these numbers, her Kindle endorsement is a home run for the platform, and should drive huge Christmas sales.
Since Amazon spiffs referring sites 10% of the sale price, Oprah.com stands to rake in over $35 per Kindle sale. And, of course, this establishes the platform as a fulfillment alternative for each subsequent Oprah's book recommendation. Ka-ching!
According to Wikipedia, publishers believe Oprah has 20 to 100 times the sway of any other public figure in driving book sales. For example, a recent announcement that she selected The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski inspired the publisher to order a run of 750,000 copies. Each one carrying the Oprah selection tag was given its own ISBN to track her impact.

Someone like Oprah who has built an empire you criticize and scorn because she does not share 100% of your views. You speak about her looks, and weight, and the color of her skin. And what do you all look like? Perfect "10" blue-eyed blondes? I think not. It's laughable. Thank God the majority of America voted with Oprah- people like you are the reason this country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Sounds like much jealousy is happening. Here's the thing, many people can identify with Oprah. She has some great ideas about what is needed for ones own self improvement. And face it, although every idea may not be a winner for every person every time, there are some ideas that can help some people sometimes, just as there are many other celebrities out there endorsing other products, services, people, and/or agendas. No one ask that people follow blindly, but I think we do ask that people watch, listen, and learn and make their own Well Informed Decision.

Very surprising that Oprah would recommend the Kindle as it only comes in WHITE. Also, isn't she a bit late to the party with this recommendation? The Kindle has been around for more than a year. While I certainly enjoy mine, many people have described them as UGLY, like Oprah. Did you know that Oprah's real name was Orpah but her mother was so stupid she misspelled it on her birth certificate?

Wow! I came to this website looking for info on Kindle, and imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a hate-fest of Oprah and Obama. How sad. And unnecessary. You guys need to get a life and stop being so negative.
