A recent piece in The Wall Street Journal had a grim headline: "Extinction Threatens Yellow Pages Publishers." As should be no surprise, consumers are moving away from traditional yellow-pages and instead using the internet, going to places like Google (NASDAQ: GOOG). In fact, it looks like spending on yellow pages advertising will plunge by 39% over the next four years, according to research from Borrell Associates.
This makes it all the more important that you have a strong web presence.
These days, there are good hosting services, such as Web.com, that help you take care of the basics. But it can be expensive to add dynamic elements to your website. Often, it means hiring a web consultant.
But there are alternatives. Take Caspio, which provides a web-based system that makes it easy to create your own web applications. Its latest offering is called the "Website Marketing Suite." With it, you can add such capabilities as:
- Rate this Page
- Newsletter Signup
- Email this Page
- Contact Us
- News announcements
Such features are extremely helpful in terms of making your website more viral as well as improving customer engagement. What's more, the look-and-feel has a professional design.
All in all, it's neat stuff. And, more importantly, it will allow your site to leverage the kind of features that your customers have come to expect.

I don't think it really matters how strong your presence is, with the economy being what it is. I'vehad a web site for 8 years, with a known presence, and done quite well until this year. I also have a small retail store that is struggling BIG TIME! I wish anyone that even considers starting a web site or a small business, the BEST of LUCK!

As a Realtor, it was obvious to me back in early 2007 that the real estate market bubble was heading for a major deflation. I began searching for a method of generating an income via the Internet. I researched every major hosting service. For one reason or another none seemed to quite fit what I was looking for.
In the spring of 2008 I came across a Canadian company that provides ALL of the essential elements, and much more, needed to build an income producing web site. I went here http://compare.sitesell.com/erudition.html to compare it to all of the other services and it more than over delivered in every aspect.
Steve Pavlina - the #1 personal development guru online, yes even bigger than Tony Robbins, said that if he would have had this service available back in 1995 it would have shaved years off his learning curve.
Ralph Wilson - web marketing advisor since 1995 gives it his highest recommendation. He also says that he's convinced that if people follow the process without skipping any steps they are 90% more likely to succeed than with any other program out there.
Google's own guidelines for success say that one of the main keys to success on the Internet is a theme oriented, content rich site.
You are lead through a proven process they call CTPM. The creation of quality Content, which attracts Traffic that you PREsell which leads to Monetizing. Read more on CTPM here http://ctpm.sitesell.com/erudition.html
If you still need further convincing at to whether or not this program delivers the most desired final results you can check it out further at http://proof.sitesell.com/erudition.html
If you're going to spend the time, money and energy putting a business on the Internet you deserve to give it every possible advantage possible. You deserve the maximum ROI. Unless you really do know it all you need this system.
Here's to your massive success!

and the basic facts used in that WSJ article have been highly disputed.
No doubt most of us are "browsing" online. But when it comes to buying local -- no other media beats print Yellow Pages on ROI where advertisers contiue to a 15+:1 return.
That's why millions of small businesses still spend their advertising dollars in the books -- they are being used by consumers ready to buy....

B. Gale,
The resource I reference, via the links, in my post just prior to yours in the Entrepreneur's Journal, Taking your website to the next level article not only shows you what you need to do, but how to do it. These guys are absolutely great. Their price is $299.00 per year, with a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied with their product. They also have a means to bring your existing web site over if you want.
I'd say click through the links on my post and check them out. I think you'll find the answers you're looking for with their programs.

I find it silly how my competitors in my luxury industry of pool tables and game room furniture, have decided the way to stay afloat is to drop all their prices to just above cost to keep an influx of money coming in. What they do not realize is that they are devaluing their products and when the market turns the expectation will be they continue selling at that same rate. They will be out of the industry in six months furthering the economic downfall because several small businesses will be in the same boat. This will snowball and affect employment rates, as well. I have dropped prices but not so ridiculous that I cannot stay afloat even after the holidays. I am not selling much; however, I am being smart and being honest to my customers. Now is the time to buy people, if you buy it will create our own version of an economical bail-out plan. Small businesses need to ban together and maybe start bartering for goods and services and marketing the old fashioned way until we can all afford to take out those newsprint ads or afford to build up our websites. If you are a small business owner contact me and I will put your website on my page if you are an honest and legitimate company. Let's network together and use each other like lifeboats to stay afloat in this sinking economy. woodysbilliards.com....come see what I have created on my website and maybe we can join forces no matter your industry.

I have a web-site called www.weeklywilson.com.
I do not sell anything, really, although I have mentioned the books I have written, but mostly in the context of the research I am doing for same. (I have separate websites for the books: www.outoftimethenovel.com and there will soon be one for Ghostly Tales of Route 66, which, as of now, only has a YouTube video which amuses me, featuring, as it does, 2 Howard Dean dolls fighting with forks. (Go figure).)
Anyway, I have covered the Presidential campaigns for close to 2 years, the Chicago Film Festival, a recent Route 66 trip, and I frequently will comment on social issues, movies, plays, etc.
I often post on www.associatedcontent.com and/or www.jollyjo.com under "Second Comings," as well.
I view the website as interesting, entertaining, informative, and something that will let my friends know what I am up to next, or will let strangers know about things that they "google" that I have written on (eg., taser deaths, nationwide; the resurgence of the KKK, etc.). I have also written for www.blogforiowa.com, www.helium.com and www.speakaboutit.com over the years.
WordPress works, for me, although, as I am not of the generation that grew up with computers, posting the pictures to accompany my articles can be a real challenge.
Check out my blogs mentioned above, especially www.weeklywilson.com, www.outoftimethenovel.com, www.conniecorcoranwilson.com, and www.associatedcontent.com, and, also, the Second Coming section of www.jollyjo.com.
Thanks!
